cute thread!

My aunt who hadn't seen me since I bc'd asked where i got my piece from(i was wearing a big low puff), and i told her it was mine, she was stunned. Then she couldn't stop touching it, and telling my other aunts and uncles who all touched it too. I guess they all thought it was fake,.

when I was in cali a woman who was walkign behind us was like I love your hair, and your dress, you look like a beautiful african goddess.:grin: that was the nicest thing a stranger has ever said to me.

Ppl in my inner circle always compliment my hair. My SO saw pics of when i was relaxed and was like don't do that anymore, and when i told him i was gonna wear my hair straight for a while he was like i don't know, your hair is perfect just the way it is.:grin:

I've had some negative comments when i first bc'd, but as my hair gets longer ppl tend to have only nice things to say.

How sweet!!...I cannot wait until I am all natural!

I don't get much negativity about my hair - last week Friday when I was walking to the PATH train a guy came over. (He was walking fast, I caught him out of the corner of my eye, and I was ready to kung foo chop him if I needed to.) He wanted to tell me that he liked my hair and kept going on and on about it. He made me blush for the longest time. I saw someone else that day and they complimented me on it.

I get so many compliments at random times and it depends on what's going on. But for the most part it's positive.

I recently BCed and I love love it. I haven't received any comments except from my DH who said that I look like a little boy! I was like whatever.

I like how my husband is touching and squeezing my soft cloud more and more during those "huh:look::look:" times!:lachen:

Also, the stares from other men that give me a quick smile or nod.

These stories are Wonderful!! My Hubby Loves my natural hair too, he has always encouraged me to leave the chemicals alone, but he is tired of me chopping every 6 months LOL!!! He helped me with all 9 of my Big Chops, well I should say shaved head LOL!!!

I Love It Ladies! Keep Em Coming! Because I know the Positive Outweigh the Negative!

I'm transitioning (17 weeks post ) with Kinky Twists. I'm surprised at the number of compliments I've gotten from white people. I get more now than when I had micros and sew-ins. Anyway, since the thread is about natural hair, let me share this... I recently told my hubby that I'm thinking about going natural. He was like  and said "Great! I think you'll look beautiful. I told you to stop putting chemicals in your hair when it started breaking off".

OP, thank you for creating this thread. It's great to hear positive comments about natural hair.:yep:

Yeah, my husband met me with natural hair, and LOVED it better. Even when I wash it, he asks, "What's that? I hope it isn't a relaxer your putting in!":lachen:He just wants me to go back so bad. When I wear my natural hair, he keeps telling me how beautiful I am. Even though, I am still beautiful, regardless!

I work in a hospital ...I turned to walk away from one of the male patient's and he blurted out...Your hair is really pretty!!! :yep:

I was wearing a braid out.

as recent as today

I had my hair in a big puff today and I got guys slowing down on their cars, women I know commenting on how much my hair has grown. I also have this friend who doesn't particularly like natural hair, tell me she liked my style today.

There was also this guy I know who said "whoa miss V you look good" I said thanks and then after we walked passed each other, he turn around and said I like your hair.

I've gotten a lot of positive reinforcement since bcing. My girlfriends from my high school days saw me for the first time as a natural last weekend and they absolutely loved it. My old stylist who gave me a hot cut when I was apermie complimented me on my natural hair on Sunday.

The lady at the natural salon, who cut off my relaxed ends, kept telling me how pretty my hair is.

My mom loved it when I went natural and had nothing but compliments. She herself went natural about a year later, and she'd had the same style since the 80's.

Many people who knew me when I was relaxed asked after my BC why I had ever relaxed in the first place.

Also, many men have complimented my hair and wanted to touch it. This one young guy I know even asked to smell my hair and then told me that's how women's hair is supposed to be.

I've not gotten any negativity about my hair.

ETA: Lauren450 your husband's response is hilarious. I can imagine him giving you the salty face (:ohwell:). :lachen:

BUMP!

This is a nice thread. :drunk:

Well--whenever I come across natural heads they are almost always on point. I guess since there aren't too many--ya'll gotta represent!
Anywho I make sure to compliment them as I will any woman who is well maintained.

Sistas on here look very nice. I have a few natural inspirations on this site. :yep:

I was discussing natural hair with one of my girls and she (white) was encouraging me to go natural, "I love curly hair..." she said. LOL

I do think there is a growing shift on the rise. I read in Shape of a poll the mag conducted where 60% of black women were opting to go natural in the next year. I mean someone conducted a poll the other day on this board and the majority of respondants actually had an interest in being natural but whatever reason hadn't gone through with it.

And this is due in part to (in my opinion) many black women abandoning old ideas about black hair and growth and instead trying to learn new methods. Look at the members on this site and others like it.
Sure some places are weaved out, i.e., Tampa, FL. But if you go to San Antonio or HOuston or whatever there are sista's with THEIR OWN hair down to their bra straps.
Even though we're talking straight hair---it's progress.
And progress is slow sometimes but I think we're gettin there.

ALl I know is it's good that ya'll ain't dealing with a-holes all day long. I was gettin worried for a sec.

I've been natural on and off for a couple of years now. This January I cut all my hair off into a TWA with a fade. I was off work and kinda nervous about coming back. Everyone loved it. I was shocked and amazed. But the most shocking comment was from my aunt in Midway, GA. We went to visit and I was nervous because the older people believe in hair. When I finally took off my cap my aunt said, "That looks soo good! You have the cutest round head." :lachen:I'm 45 years old, so you could imagine how old she is. I just had to smile. Then my female cousin said that I was brave to cut my hair off. This is a comment I get from a lot of women. I wasn't soo brave when I cut my hair -- I left my braids in too long :nono: and they were braking out from the scrap! So I just cut out the rest and went to the barber shop.

Sorry, for this being so long but I've had soo much positive feedback from cutting my hair I just can't tell it all.

1) I met my 1.5 year boyfriend with my natural hair. The first thing he asked me was how long I had been growing my hair out? He loves playing with and smelling my hair. He requests for me to blow it out now and then, just so he can hug it all.

He said that I was the first natural woman that he has ever dated. Just recently he mentioned that he think women wearing their natural hair is better atleast healthier than putting chemicals in the hair.

Now he wears a fro, a small shapped fro.

2) My parents love my fro. Sometimes, my mom asks me to wear it out in all of it's glory, since we work at the same school. She said, she wants the young AA ladies at the school and boys included to see natural beauty and confidence.

I wore it out once, but a young lady thought it was fake and tried to tear off my "phony pony":nono:

3) At the grocery store, there were 2 girls corning me while I am inspecting the fruite. I eyed them and they eyed me. It was whiled. Eventually, they cornered me all to say, "is that your hair? How long have you been growing it? I'm natural too, I don't know any other natural women."

That was unexpected and crazy, but at the end it was very positive.

4) My sister use to hate on my hair all day, every day. She would say rude things and would never have a positive thing to say about it.Then about 2 years of the hating, she admitted to me that she didn't really hate my hair. She just wished she could go natural but she is scared to.

i love these stories!! omg i want to be natural so bad... but im in the akward transitioning stage

Ok, first one yersterday! I met this person and said to me can I touch your hair? Touched and said ooooh it feels so good

Whenever I wear my hair out in fro or afro puff, my friends and family always tell me how thick it is. I like hearing that because it had gotten so thin from years of relaxing.

I've been natural going on 3 years now... I have 4b hair.... I initially came to college with shoulder length relaxed hair, and after I BC'd... For the most part, people loved it. If I ever relax, I really think thats what I'll miss the most...

"Oh freelove, thats so pretty... you look so pretty... that really fits you..."

The next year I saw a lot of girls rocking TWAs, lol... I started a trend on campus....

I always get compliments on my hair... I'm not being conceited... I get complimented more on my hair natural than I ever did relaxed... and I always make sure to compliment nice looking natural hair everytime I see it

Yesterday I went to work and one of my coworkers couldn't stop talking about it... then I went over to hang out with one of the dudes I'm talking to... he couldn't keep his hands out of it... As soon as he saw me he was like... "Mmmm... you smell amazing... is that coconut?" I just started putting coconut oil in my hair... he kept sniffing it lol.... "Oh wow... your hair is so soft... it doesn't even feel like hair...."

So we are talking about positive comments, well as for me and my napps my students where I teach are in love with my ahir in fact one of them has subscribed to the forum and another student has chopped off her hair in an effort to go back to her rootsby embracing her kinks. Even in the deep south Natural hair is the showstopper and envied by many....To me that is positive to have a whole generation of kids vibing the natural thing.....

Girl its a fact white guys and gals just love afro hair. I always got lots of compliments from them but now I'm noticing that black ladies are now just starting to get a little interested in natural hair. I'll be natural 5 years in August. Its good to hear positive reports like this one.

- the first time i went to the club with my afro this guy stopped me and asked if he could touch my hair becaus ehe loved my afro. i told him i appreciated his compliment, but I'm sorry i don't feel comfortable with his hand in my hair. shoot i don't know wher ehis hands been... ewwwwww

Lol... at least he asked! I remember I was at the club dancing with this guy friend of mine. All of a sudden, I feel some patting my fro VERY GENTLY ... I look and around and its a whole 'nother dude standing there smiling with me... some tall dude that came out of nowhere.

The dude I was dancing with started yelling like, "Yo, ASK HER BEFORE YOU DO THAT YO! ASK HER BEFORE YOU DO THAT!" The random dude just shrugged and walked away. Then, the dude that I was dancing with must have felt real gangsta off that move, cuz he started rapping every single lyric to the rap song that was playing very vigorously...

The whole thing was just weird, man... I had to sit down afterwards. I felt a bit shaken. :perplexed

This is an update on positive comments:

Yesterday a lady came into my office and she had sista' locks. Her hair is way long and beautiful but she asked if she could touch my TWA with fade. I don't even have an inch on my head right now. She said my hair was so beautiful and that I was beautiful also. This made my day.

I've been trying out a new regimen this week and I think I'm beginning to retain more moisture. My hair is definitely softer.

People either love or hate my hair - no middle ground. I work and live in a very Anglo, conservative community where everyone has very straight hair. The very few other black women at my company all straighten thier hair and I definitely get the vibe that they think natural hair is "unprofessional' or "inappropriate" for work :wallbash::wallbash:

They tend to be very complimentary whenever I do straighten. I do this less and less as I have gotten more comfy with my big curly hair!!

I also do a lot of work in my community with HS and college students and they seem to relate to my hair in a much more positive manner. i think that for them it makes me more approachable.

My husband is my biggest natural hair fan and he loves my curls so much!!! he can't stop playing in my hair :yep::yep:

As long as I like it and he loves it, who cares what anyone else thinks ??

I'm not natural yet :look: but I recently BC'd my bangs. As I was co-washing I was so excited to see my natural texture without the relaxed ends that when he opened up the shower I said, "Look at my hair!". He said, "I see, my baby is a natural beauty". It was one of the sweet things he has said thus far.

wth?! :lachen: twilight zone!

yeah, sometimes they don't ask. this drunk white guy said he loved my hair and reached for it. i tried to dodge but there was someone standing behind me holding a pizza to put in the oven and the room was really crowded so i had this duck, bob, and weave thing going on. he still touched it. i knew i couldn't be the only one who thought strange men touching your hair unasked was creepy!

oh, but this is the positive comments thread. so one of my white coworkers asked to touch my braids cuz i was going on about the jojoba oil i tried for the first time last night and she touched them and did a little jump and said "i wish i had cool hair." i take it as a compliment. she lamented before that her hair won't even hold a curl.

oh, nigeriangirl, i LOVE your fat twists.

Awesome thread OP!

1. I was at Winn Dixie and the checkout girl said I she really liked my hair. I had it in twists. She said she was transitioning and mentioned she goes to one of the hair websites. Another girl was relaxed, but not transitioning. But she had been natural before. I gave her some product suggestions. When I came back 2 weeks later, the one who wasn't even thinking about transitioning had BC'd!:afro:

2. I was in Wally and a guy behind me said he really liked my dreads (they were tiny box braids). I get this a lot.

3. My family always compliments on how thick my hair is and how much it has grown.

4. My babygirl (one of my inspirations for going natural) touched my hair and said "Your hair is so pretty mommy. Can you do my hair like yours?"

I don't usually wear my hair out, but I have the last couple weeks and it's amazing how many white men are all up in my hair telling me how cute it is and touching it without asking. It's flattering and surprising. I've had black men who are use to seeing me in braids react with a "damn girl... you gotta lot of hair... i like i like.." lol :lachen:
