Naturals:How long did you transition before you cut off your relaxed ends?

I'm starting to get that itch...I know I JUST said I wanted to wait 2 years, but I'm wearing wash n gos...and it's more like a wash n no right now...I'm feeling like a BC is coming.

I just want SOOO badly to see my curls w/out the weight of relaxed ends ....but I'm scared of having my hair short. I have a lot more shrinkage than I thought, and even though I have about 8 inches of new hair, I have a feeling it will look like 4 inches once I chop...

This is me (the bolded). I have had short hair before (chin length) and I know it grows back, but I can't deal with short hair at this point; I need the convenience of length, but I want to see all natural curls so bad I can almost taste it!!! I have about 7 or 8 inches of NG but I also have just about that much relaxed too. I will be going tomorrow to get a mini chop though (about 4 inches to right above my bra strap)

5 months and 3 weeks. I wanted to go for 12 months, but I couldn't take it. I was bursting at the seams.

I have two plans of action:

1. Either waiting until I'm BSL and start mini chopping up until that length until all the relaxed ends are gone

or

2. Wait two years, man up and big chop.

I'm leaning more towards option one.

Oh, by the way... I didn't tell anyone here that I was transitioning... Hi, I'm transitioning!

I transitioned from June to Sept 04 so about 3 months.

wow, i wish i would've transitioned by accident (or not been aware of it). that would def keep me from checking my NG every day of the week. lol. and you have beautiful hair mwedzi!

I didn't cut anything off. I'm not sure how long it took, because I wasn't really aware that I was "transitioning." I just stopped relaxing and started pressing. And then I put my hair in braids or cornrows which I wore for most of 5 months. By the time that period was over, I was completely natural. I think I was natural even before cuz I was able to twist (for the very first time!) between braids. My guess is that the relaxed ends grew out / broke off over a period of a year or two.
