Naturals how do you style your hair in cold months...

The CW daily and wash and go's are easier in the summer cause it's warm, but what's the style you'll wear this winter when it's too cold to CW often? TIA

I'm dreading winter for the same reason and would also like to know how those less hairstyle-challenged than myself will be doing their hair in the winter.

Another vote for some tips for this first time natural in the winter... and the cooler months in this state AIN'T NO JOKE! :) Esp. maintenance tips for when wearing weaves/half-wigs, etc.

puffs
twists so i can wear hats
whatever it is i just don't like combing my hair period so it has to be easy. i also tried extensions too

I still wear my puffs. I do more towel-drying though so I'm not going out with soaking wet hair. I mentioned this in the students' thread, but I'm thinking about getting a diffuser to help. Maybe a microfiber towel would be a good alternative as well.
It gets really cold in Missouri in the winter, but I'm about to be in Chicago this winter so it's going to be more intense. I'll probably be keeping my hair covered more often.

I still wear puffs but I don't wash/rinse daily. I'll cw one day then spritz to refresh the next day. I wear more twists as well.

I wear my regular buns and french twists but I give my ends an extra coating of avocado butter to keep them soft and protected.

I put a silk scarf in my hat befoer putting it on. Most of my winter hats are wool and that really dries my hair out.

It gets really cold here (I live in the Northeast), so I'm thinking about braiding back up for the winter (this will work out really well since I'm in college). I did this last winter and my growth went I took them down was really god. I gained at least and inch and a half in the three months that I had them in. Since joining the board and learning more tips, I'm hoping to retain more hair this time through doing the C&G takedown method.

I CW every day right through the winter. I've been going out with my head wet for years and years, to the horror of my family and friends who have pretty much gotten over it by now. I do put a hat on when it gets bitter cold and I use extra moisturizer on my hair. But basically, I CW and put my hair in a loose ponytail or bun, like always. I don't use glycerine in the winter though.

Any reason why you dump glycerin, or just no mistng ?

IIRC, since glycerin is a hummectant, when the air is cold but there's no moisture, glycerin can have the opposite intended effect and dry out the hair.

This will be my first time doing winter styling, although I'm in Cali, so it doesn't get THAT cold. I plan on wearing more twists and twistouts. I also want to buy a silk/satin linned winter hat. We had a cold and rainy spring last year though, and I wore shake-n-gos all through it, so I might keep up with that as well.

I alos plan to add more oil based moisturizers in winter than I did in spring/summer.

I keep doing whatever I do in the summer. I will wear twist, plaits, and wash-n-goes. I love to wear scarves and kufies. However, I do deep condition more.

I usually wear either twists or sew ins. The sew ins act as an extra "hat" when it's freezing outside. In the winter if I'm wearing a sew in I just moisturize in the evening after I get home from work to make sure my hair is dry before I go to bed and I'll do the same for the twists but use a creamy moisturizer in the morning before work so that I don't go out with a wet head.

I still do wash and go, I just only wash it once a week. Maintain it at night by popping a bonnet or scarf on. If it gets wild towards the end of the week I put it in a ponytail.

I keep my hair pressed or roller set in the winter. I can't stand the feeling of wet hair down my back when it's cold. Most likely I will go back to my bi-weekly wash and flat-iron.

Winter = boxbraids with extensions(Crown&Glory Challenge) + weave!
Pokahontas do you flat-iron your hair twice a week? Please tell me, what's your complete winter regimen:) !

Do you (anyone) think that avocado butter is a good butter for the winter months? I heard that its greasy, but supposedly keeps hair moist for a few days.

I'm going to continue with drawstring ponys with my newly amended baggie method 75% of the time. The rest of the time, I'll experiment with the Maxiglide in dryer weather to see if I can continue wearing my own pony, but the moment my hair doesn't retain it's moisture, the Maxiglide will take a winter nap. I'll wear plaits and puffs instead.

i always wear braids in the colder months....i am sure to have a fool head of individuals for november/december/january.

I dunno but I think Im going to forgo the wash n go this year...my hair stays wet throughout the entire day. The diffuser only seems to get my ends dry but the roots saty damp.

Oh ,girl, you just mentioned my favorite product and my radar went off!:lachen:

I love avocado butter. Out of all of the butters and oils I use and have tried it is my absolute favorite. It's very heavy and rich, and yes it is greasy too, but you don't need to use too much.

It's perfect for colder fall and winter weather, in the summer sometimes I like to switch it up and use a lighter butter (a mango papaya combination, or hemp seed butter) but nothing beats avocado!

I apply it to my hair generously after I've applied my leave in. It keeps my hair silky and well moisturized for days. I don't even bother with any other moisturizer, other then water, in between washing, it does such an excellent job. I wash every two or three days and the avocado butter keeps my hair moist and soft.
