I can tell that my hair is growing - but I'd be lying if I tried to even GUESS at how long it is - so, I wanted to know how ya'll measure.....

I do get a general measurement by seeing where it stretches to, but I also chose "other" because I like to know inches sometimes too. When it was less than a foot long I used to just stretch it and put the ruler up next to my head. Now I use a piece of ribbon or string or something to get the length of my hair and just measure the ribbon.

I just stretch it to see where it lands. To see how many inches, I use tape measure.

Same here! :yep:

I have been guessing but, I am fustrated because I can really remeber where I started so, I took my first picture for my newly established Fotiki (1 picture in it) and bought a measuring tee-shirt for better reference. I need to see my growth for motivation.

I pick up a fallen nap (RIP) and measure it against a ruler, usually at work lol. I'm gonna start takin comparison pics pulling down to my forehead soon though, cos my hair touches my eyebrows now (YEY!) hmmm do I have a big forehead or short hair???

I don't "measure" per say anymore. I know it's gotten longer b/c I am able to do styles that i did before I had to cut my color. Plus it starts to hang really different.

I look to see where it is on my body when stretched. I picked the last two choices in the poll, because I used to use a tape measure. But I haven't been using one recently and I don't think I'll go back to it. I also try to keep a good picture record and make comparison shots. It keeps me motivated to see my progress.

I just stretch it and then see where it reaches on my body. If I want to know exactly how many inches long my hair ir then I use a tape measure.

Hey girl i measure by putting in twists then when i undo i first stretch it to see where it falls on my body parts for instance collarbone, armpit... then i take the tape measure and hold the hair to see how many inches separate me from my hair goal rather then measuring the hair per se. for instance i see 10"inches away from waistlength and it motivates me more than if i count the inches i already have and its harder as a natural cause my hair is not pressed so its harder to hold it and measure its whole length the hair keep shrinking lol:grin: :D ;)

Awww, thank you, Ekomba.:)

I'm just about hipbone length now. I'm aiming for classic length as my ultimate goal but I thnk it will take about two years before my hair covers all of my butt.:look:

wowwww thanks for your reply Camellia hum you making me wish for hipbone length now i know classic would be kinda lonnnng but it already look like it covers the beginning of your butt lol but magnifique i love it!:D

I've never measured my hair or tracked my length, but these all sound like good ideas. Ekomba's idea does sound like a good motivator...looking at the glass being "half-empty" for a positive reason.

I used to press it and then measure w/a tape measure, but now that I have cut in a twa, I just put the tape measure to my scalp.

I just stretch the back to see how long my hair is getting.

I used the press/blowdry. Now I just stretch it to see where it is. I have used a tape measure before too.

Thank ya'll for all the responses!!! It seems like everyone does the body part bit - sweet.

I comb out a small portion and measure from root to tip with a ruler

I'll either twist and body measure that or use the same method on a fat coil.

I stretch each area because I started (my hair journey) with breakage in the back, so my top and sides are much longer and healthier than my back area.

With shrinkage - :ohwell: - someday I feel like I'm making great progess and other days I get depressed!

I don't lol.

Well I see the old color on my ends and a lot of roots so I know it's growing if nothing else :)

I measure by stretching out a piece of hair & taking a pic of it.
Picture documentation is wonderful!!!

I dyed my hair late august, early september, so I have a mark to measure to.

Yesterday I got my cousin to place a ruler at my scalp and then to where the dyed hair started.

I think I'm going to measure a twist though, because I don't even know if I retain and grow, or if i'm just growing.

I'm in a no heat challenge till at least january, so this is the only way for now

I use the body part method, but I do a sort of informal volume measure too. I fluff out my fro and take a pic. Ususally it's thicker and higher than the last photo.

I don't measure with a tape measure.
I just pull down a little hair and press with my fingers where it stops. That's how I know it has grown or stands still :)
I measure with my fingers how long it is to the next goal. It doesn't matter how many inches or centimeters it is right now.

I just measured my hair today after flat ironing it yesterday.

I measure my hair by stretching it and measuring against my body. Works for me:D
