Using a (spray) leave in first (I think this is a key step!) on DAMP hair and then using a thick moisturizer. Since you have KCKT (which I have in my arsenal too and seem to like) and shea moisture, your post-wash moisturizing session will go something like this: Apply KCKT and then layer on the shea moisture. Then seal with something heavy; I like oyin handmade burnt sugar pomade or plain old castor oil.

also I forgot and other ladies mentioned (its become so commonplace for me now)
washing without sulphates - you dont necessarily need sulphates to get ri of buildup
I use black soap or my benoite clay wash fashioned off terressentials organic hair wash - gets rid of buildup from oyins BSP which is pretty brutal
and deep conditioning weekly - with heat or steam
