Naturals: Does water/re-moisturizing ruin your twist-outs?

I know some naturals re-moisturize throughout the day by spraying a little water on their hair. Does anyone do this while their hair is in a twist out?

I'm asking because whenever I wear my hair in a twist out (which is fairly often) I CAN'T spray with water during the day OR moisturize during the day because it just makes my hair frizz up and ruins the curls. The only time I can moisturize my hair is while twisting it (shea butter, etc.) or washing/DCing. I'm not sure if this is a bad thing or not, since I do those things regularly.

What's the best technique for keeping styled hair moisturized during the day?

Nope

Best way to keep hair moisturized during the day
Use a good moisturizer when you first moisturize your hair so you don't have to "re spritz." Are you sure you aren't confusing moisturized hair with "moist" hair? Your hair does not have to be wet in order for it to be moisturized. How to find a good moisturizer? Trial and error.

I use curl activator gel (worlds of curls) as my moisturizer. Is it the best thing for twist outs? Not for those who need a really defined twist out because the glycerin content is high so my hair puffs up. I don't mind it because definition isn't the end all be all to me.

:giggle: Trust me: you do not want to wet your twist-out or you'll have frizz that isn't even cute but that looks confused. Been there, done that.

If you feel you need to moisturize your hair throughout the day, then my viewpoint is you're not using a good moisturizer, or your hair is very porous and you need to work on fixing the porosity so your hair can hold onto moisture so you're not constantly having to moisturize.

When I use S Curl (the only moisturizer you are likely to find me using if I use one), I use it only on the day I wash my hair and it lasts me until the next wash. My hair never feels dry. If I applied moisturizer every day or several times a day, I'd be a juice-dripping, head-turn-spraying danger to society, not to mention furniture marking grease monkey. I know they say you need moisturize, moisturize, moisturize...but you need to do that within reason. You hair can only take so much moisture so constantly applying moisture to already moisturized hair IMO is wasteful and icky.

If you're one of those who must moisturize daily (Never made sense to me), then I believe you should just do it when you retwist for the night and not during the "-out" style or you'll mess it up.

A long time ago, I stopped spraying my twistouts w/ water for that very reason. I used to mix moisturizer/leave-in and oil in my hands and apply it to my hair. Because the mixture was mostly comprised of the leave-in or moisturizer, it would make my hair poof to the point where there was more poof than definition from the twistout.

Now I still mix a moisturizer/leave-in and oil in my hands and apply it to my hair. However, I now make sure that the mixture is mostly oil instead of moisturizer or leave-in. I use oils that have softening properties, like sweet almond, grapeseed, or jojoba oils.

Many naturals on youtube state they only moisturize with water. I always wondered how they avoid frizz if they are wetting everyday.

I, for one, do not use water on my hair unless I am washing or retwisting. I moisturize with a water based cream of any sorts.

I don't because my hair will shrink up again. I make sure I use a very wonderful leave in before I do the twist out. At night I will re-twist in bigger sections and also moisturise as well.

Usually the first day when my hair is in twists still, I'll coat them with a moisturizer, but after I take the twists out, I only fluff them out with oil, or reapply a product ONLY if I am retwisting at night.

I usually wear my twists for a while before I do a twist out. I will spray my hair with moisturizer either the night before or a few hours before I take them out. I may apply a creamy type moisturizer to my roots if I wear a twist out for a few days. But I dont spray or apply any liquidy type product on my hair when its out unless I just want to wear a fro/puff.
