@SweetSunshine

Your plan looks great! I'm sure it will come out awesome and since you have so much hair you will have to apply your relaxer to the length & ends first then the scalp, but I think doing it in sections will give you even results all over...

Can't wait to see your before & after pics....mine will be less dramatic with only 1 inch of hair!

You are so kind NappyRina! I am just taking what I learned here, on various blogs, and Youtube lol. I'm sure yours will look lovely as well. You can make that 1 inch look super hot! :clapping:

Your hair is just too beautiful for words mrs.reese! I have my routine down and I believe I'll be ready in a few weeks. I watched the YT video you recommended and it was soooo helpful! Did you use your gloved hands to apply or use the little brush thing? I've heard people mentioned hands are faster.....

I was natural for 7 years and decided to texturize last summer. I haven't looked back since! I only wish I had done it sooner. What I didn't realize all those years was that wearing and caring for my hair in its natural state was actually detrimental to my length retention. I'm only speaking for myself here...what works for most naturals was NOT working for me.

I get my hair done professionally with Mizani. I was texturized up until this month and I'm texlaxed now. You can check out my pics in my profile album...the Jan pics are texlaxed hair.

Although I love the look of my texlaxed hair, I miss the thickness of my texturized hair. It looked like my natural hair but with a looser curl and way easier to manage. Telaxed is even easier to manage but it's more of a "Wet curl " and looks dead straight when it's wet. Still on the fence about whether or not I'll transition back to texturized hair.

Kiwi, thanks for your reply!

Your hair is very pretty, I checked out your pics. I'm curious, what made you decide to go from texturizing to Texlaxing? Also, from what I've seen, you can be texlaxed and still maintain as much or as little of your texture as you'd like. When I Texlax, I plan on loosening my curls about 60 to 70%. Loose, but not straight.

Perfexion,

Is the Affirm Fiberguard lye or no lye? When you say you didn't get the results you wanted, was it because you wanted your hair to be looser? I understand not wanting straight hair, I refuse to get it and will do everything in my power to make sure texture is left in my strands!

I actually don't know if its lye or no lye. I think it's lye. And I don't know what I expected but my hair looked exactly the same after I texlaxed. The shrinkage and tangles were still there. I didn't necessarily want looser hair, just slightly more manageable hair.

Hi everyone!
I've recently joined LHCF after lurking for many years. I've been natural since 2006, and have gotten pretty good growth from learning how to care for my hair. After a year of research (and stalking this site :look:), I've decided to texlax my hair in February. Are there any other ladies who have been natural for an extended period of time and are considering texlaxing?

Lets support one another as we begin this new journey together!

I was natural three years and I decided to texlax. I didn't put a lot thought into it because I knew doing so would completley loosing the curls. And that's what I needed. I made sure i only did its roots and nothing more. My hair in the display is texlax, and its still long, curly but a lil more managble. I'm in the process of debating on going back completely relax. I think it would be better for me, as natural hair is way more work for me

I also went natural in 2006...I posted in the Random Thoughts thread that I'm considering texturizing my hair..last time my hair was out(in box braids) I was so frustrated that I actually bought a Texturizer but of course I haven't pulled the trigger:blush: but I'm still on the fence:ohwell:

I always wear braids and remember that feeling :ohwell: I had grown 9 inches of hair, half of it ended up over processed. So I cut it and now have 4 inches of new growth that is so healthy it made the processed hair look sick. Now I can comb my hair and only expect to lose 10 hairs max. What was I thinking? :perplexed I'm done with the chemicals.

Thanks  I just kinda happened... It's a long story. Coles notes: It wasn't what I wanted but I wasn't paying attention while my hair was getting done.

I like it more each day though. I shampooed it 3x this week (I usually only shampoo 1x/week) and it's not as straight-ish anymore. I also like that my hair has movement now when it's dry.

Just today the thought crossed my mind for a while, it didn't linger though because when i think about my already fine strands and knot prone ends i just :nono::nono::nono::nono:

wow. thank you. do you get to your goals as you dust every month?
also if you do have pictures do you mind sharing?

my hair loves apoghee 2 min.

thanks
coolsista-paris, I don't really have set goals. I'm more focused on health. Once it's healthy, the length will come. I'm dusting so often in an effort to grow out my crown (a lifelong endeavor ). As it grows, I'm cutting back the rest. Tedious, but I've been at it since the spring and my natural 'W' has filled in nicely and the hair itself is strong and healthy (another first for me, lol).

I'll be posting pics in the bsl by 2013 thread in a few days, I'll try to remember to post them here too. I lost the wire for my camera and never replaced it, so I'll be taking these with my phone. :perplexed

Welcome to the forum!

I don't want to texlax but sometimes I think about doing a Brazilian Keratin Treatment for the summer. People always warn me not to do it so I've been hesitant.

I've thought about BKT but I am scared to death of the heat. I'm going to look into it some more. I just may skip it altogether but it's been on my mind.

Hey,

Im texlaxed/texturized... I love it.. I have was not a natural for very long before I did it tho.. was probably natural for about a year.

renren

Just checked out your blog... Your hair is so lovely and thick! I love your waves in the fresh washed pic before you flat ironed. I'm trying to get to where you are!! :yep:

RazberryDazzle I've deeply cut my hair sooo many times...even now I need to do another deep cut which is really going to put me further away from my goal. I really don't know what else to do except to texturize. I wear it braided whenever I feel the urge to texturize:nono: So my hair has braided continuously or the past 4month.

I could have written this post! I'm 6 years natural and want to texlax in February after my holiday.

I aim to do a small patch at the back with DE to see how I like it before committing to the whole head. I'll probably self relax as I have trust issues with hair stylists over here and find it hard to get recommendations.

Hi CharUK!

Such similar stories we have. Your hair is lovely by the way:yep: I understand those trust issues, I have them also. In the past 5 years, I believe I went to a salon 2 or 3 times. And that was to get my hair colored. What made you decide to consider Texlaxing?

SweetSunshine Ooooh what colour is your hair? I've always wanted to dabble with colour, but I've never perfected the moisture balance in my hair, so have been hesitant.

To be honest I've just had enough. The bigger it gets the more unmanageable it becomes. I have four kids and a job. I can't commit to dealing with natural hair. I know people say I'll have to increase protein treatments, but this should be easier with looser curls as detangling takes forever! Part of this is my fault as I never really experiment with my natural hair, I just pretty much stick to two strand twists as they last and are easy to do myself, so I haven't really given my hair a chance, but I'm ready for change now. It's just plucking up the courage to do it!!

My experience with texlaxing - I had aprox 3 years of natural growth in March 2011. I was about to start a new job, I had 2 babies at home, I decided this would be the best thing. At first my results looked just like Mrs.Reece; that look only last maybe the first 3 times I processed my hair. Soon the newgrowth stood out more and more, unlike when I was natural, and I processed a wee bit longer each time until I ended up back to square one. Damaged ends that did not look curly like the first time a I texlaxed. Basically I ended up with a full perm within about 1 year.

My advice is to have a plan and stick with it. If you plan to process only 2, or 4 times per year, stick with that. I originally planned on about 2 times per year and probably ended up doing it 6 times that year :-(

Now I haven't process in about 6 months, I have cut off most of the damage (I'm not completely natural) and I just don't know what I'm doing yet.

CharUK,

I used to have my hair a 'golden-brown' color, but it would always look more auburn on my naturally off-black/dark brown hair color. I haven't had my hair colored in 2 years, because I was trying to decide on a new color. I have slowly snipped off my old color, so now I'm back to my off-black/dark brown color.

Now that I plan on tex-laxing in a few weeks (Feb 2nd-yay!), I will focus on hair health, and save the color for later in the year. Glad to have another natural starting the tex-lax journey with us!:drunk:

I sometimes think about it, especially when I'm doing my hair and super frustrated, LOL. There are some downsides:

1. My hair is on the fine side.

2. A good part of my hair is pretty loose - 3c in the front and a little 3b in the back. There is a danger of over processing.

3. I never had a relaxer - ever. I don't trust myself to DIY. I don't trust anyone else either.

Thoughts? Advice?

CharUK Thanks!!

I came in here to BUMP.... and because my Texlax day is getting closer. I've decided to do it on Feb 2nd. I will do a clarifying wash this Saturday and a light-med protein treatment to prep my hair. So excited!!!

Welcome! I wish you the best..Do what works for you..

Happy Hair Growing!

@greenandchic A few type 3 women on this board has discussed issues with their relaxers taking well. You might not have to worry about overprocessing as much as you think. However, I'm not type 3 and I don't know much about texlaxing.

How much I think about it depends on how frustrated I am with my hair.

I don't want to risk having to do a BC so I'll leave it alone, LOL.

I've been considering this lately. Can anyone share their prep process during the weeks leading up to their first texlax?
