Naturals -- Anyone WNG and NOT get single strand knots?

Hear me out.

I've been natural for just over a month now, and my style of choice (and convenience, really) has been wash and gos. I know of the potential damage this can cause in terms of single strand knots, but I have yet to get any.

Am I the only one who this doesn't happen to? I'm wondering if the cause for wash and gos is more so the products used and/or method of washing/conditioning the hair rather than the actual hairstyle itself.

I am not natural, but texlaxed. I have learned how to really cut down on my single strand knots is by not cowashing my hair everyday. Also since my hair shrinks to my neck, I do not have to worry about my hair rubbing on my shoulders. I still get some knots but not that many.

i did not get any single strand knots my first year natural (i'm 1 yr and 8 mos). lately i have gotten a gazillion of them. i was just thinking the other day that i need to remember what i did during the first year and go back to doing that. i know i used castor oil a lot and i have not done that since i ran out about 6 months ago. i also manipulated my hair much less. as for products i only used tresemme shampoo and conditioner and miss keys 10 en 1. now i am a product junkie and use a little bit of everything.

I noticed my WNGs were going great until it got really hot and I had to hide in twists. Wondering if it has to do with moisture? :perplexed
Looking forward to responses since I love my WNG :yep:

I recently bc'd too... been natural for a little over a month I think

I found 4 single strand knots yesterday (I cut them out)

Before that I didn't have any though.

I wonder why? The only new thing I've introduced is the denman brush. Hope it's not that!

Pixie knots? I think lack of moisture has a lot to do with it though the hair curling on itself is usually unavoidable to an extent.

One important lesson I have learned while wearing a wng...never rinse your hair in a shrunken state. That may seem like commom sense, but I was lazy. Stretching out each section before rinsing that section will help minimize knots.

I usually get ssk with twist outs more than I do with wng. I think it's because I don't manipulate my hair at all while it's drying. I just let it do what it wants. Next day, I just use my fingers and a spray bottle to fluff it a little. Less manipulation is better.

Thanks for the responses ladies!

I should've added a poll, I'd really love to know what the true reason for SSK's are.

I actually cowash daily and WNG daily, I wash unstretched and I detangle with a Denman. I haven't yet had a knot, (knock on wood).

Maybe it is the moisture that causes the hair follicle to relax a bit before curling/coiling on itself? My hair also doesn't curl on itself though, it has S shapes that just hang down.
