Natural Who Use Straightening Combs I Need Your Help!!

Hello ladies!

Ok, so I'm tired of spending almost $70 every month on getting my hair pressed, plus tip. I know for once a month that's may not be bad compared to some people that go get there hair done every two weeks, but that's just too for someone who already doesn't like to go to salons.

So anyway, I was wondering if any of you ladies with natural hair that press your own hair can suggest some really good straightening combs. I've tried to use a FHI several times and it was basically a waste. It was good when I was relaxed but now that I am natural it's useless.

If I can find a SUPER good flat iron that can get it salon straight then I'm open for those suggestions as well.

Thanks ladies!

I use Kizure and Golden Supreme Hot Combs. They both have websites and you can find their brands in beauty supply stores.

PinkSkates, which Kizure comb do you use on your hair? I notice your hair is very thick, as well as mine, so I wanted to make sure I will get the proper one. Thanks again!

I use Kentucky Maid combs and their stove. i'. new to the ressing game but I do know the brand has been around for a long time and is a good name. As for Pinkskates, you can count on whatever she says about all things hair... her pics speak for themselves!

I dont get my hair press with the stove iron often but I had it done with the Kizure comb . Let me tell you if i didnt wash my hair it would still be straight and no reversion.

PinkSkates thank you sooo much for the suggestion!! Your hair is absolutely beautiful!!

Thank you Enscott!

I use the Kizure "Double Press" comb. It's best for thick coarse hair. When I want that silky press finish, that is the hot comb to get the job done!

PinkSkates, can you tell me if these combs are ones that you put in/on a stove or electric? I would really like to use something electric for time and saftey reasons on my end. I can see me now burning my ends to a crisp. :lachen:

I use the stove kind only. The electric ones are usually poor quality and the chords get in my way when I need to get close to my roots and hairline. And the stove ones require less heat to get my hair silky straight.

Thank you Pmichael and I hope my new hair pressing video helps you out.
Be careful with the heat usage!

ELECTRIC HOT COMBS!!!
i say this because they reduce mistakes that you make on the stove, and you can actually see the temperature that you're using...
and for ppl with stubborn curls like me:

  • [*]oil moisturize
    [*]blow dry
[*]air dry for a day or night
    [*]hot comb
    [*]flat iron
use a heat protectant spray instead of a pressing creme, i like all of the ones i have used
i have been natural for my whole life and when my hair was BSL in highschool this is what i did...
pressing cremes don't work for me... go figure

Yes, they help a great deal. I'm too afraid of messing up my hair's great progress so I have only been doing my edges every blue moon with a VERY warm comb. So warm that it sometimes doesn't straighten well, but I do it for the practice mostly. I won't use the combs full out until I have to wash and style my own hair. Right now, my stylist does it every two weeks so between watching her like a hawk, and follow your vids and other threads, I'm gaining more confidence for my big DIY day.

I used an electric one when I was natural. It worked really well! I had crappy heat protectant, but I think silicon mix does a better job than CSI.

I've only straightened my hair once since going natural in February. I used my old trustee Gold-N-Hot electric comb with some Garnier Fructis Sleek-n-Shine Anti-Humidity Smoothing Milk and got my hair relaxer straight! :yep:
