I want to try Oyin and My honeychild products. What would you ladies suggest for someone that wears a wild funky afro? My hair is really soft in the top so I need something that won't weigh it down. I have to apply holding spray or mousse so it can stand up in the top along w/my IC clear gel. IC gel is a staple. I don't want to spend all that money for trial and error.

Next week I plan on trying natural stuff from trader joes since you can return anything you don't like there.

Do any of you ladies use Kiss My Face products? I see this all the time in TJ's.

Carol's Daughter: I've only used one product, and that was received in a swap: the Black Vanilla Leave-in has a wonderful smell. It's liquid, so I add it to Giovanni Direct and a drop of honey and use as my leave in.

Ashas: I ordered the sample pack. I like the silk-rose leave-in. I don't do heavy waxes, so I swapped the sunkissed and mane attraction, but I liked the scents.

Oyin: I really liked the Whipped Pudding combined with the Shine and Define, I just didn't repurchase because I don't have places for them in my hair regimen. I love the Honey Hemp Conditioner, and have just purchased full size. I also like the honey lip tints and really like the funk butter (black cedar fig).

Qhemet: I like the products, but they also don't really fit into my regimen. My favorites from her are the olive oil honey balm and the olive oil detangler. The sidr tree balm and amla oil cream were okay for me, but not bad products. The honeybush gel didn't work for me at all because it was too lightweight. My flaxseed gel is about the same texture.

My Honey Child: Favorites are the Sophia Old Fashioned Hair Grease and the Aloe Vera Leave-In. Was okay on the Type Creams, Herbal Cocktail. Woudn't repurchase those. I just purchased the Honey Hair Mask, so I'll report later.

I haven't tried DevaCurl (although if I'm at an Ulta, I will purchase OneC).

What's coming in the mail as we speak:
Curls, Curl Junkie and Blended Beauty products. I'll report back to this thread after they've arrived.

Yup, you have to come back and report. Looking at your list makes me feel a little better about being a PJ. I see i am not alone here. ;)

I just purchased samples of Curls and Blended Beauty products from sistasplace.biz. I did the ten for $20 custom sampler.

I have tried something from almost every brand listed so here are my 2 cents:

CD-Healthy Hair Butter-The smell was overwhelming to me and more so other around me. I also didn't care for the price. I liked the moisturizing effects but chose not to repurchase.

CD-Hair mimosa- great for shine and smells wonderful. Lasts a long time. I would repurchase if if I ever needed to.

Asha's-
Mane attraction-Same smell as CD HHB.
Sunkissed-Same as CD Mimosa

DevaCurl-never tried

Oyin- whipped pudding-love the smell. Used it on my twists, but my hair felt super dry the next day. Oddly enough I tried it on another natural and it worked great for her. Used the rest for my skin.

Oyin-Whipped Shea-Love it. I used this to moisturize my damp twists and my hair stays mositurized. I will continue to use it.

Oyin-Greg Juice-Didn't like it. Left my hair with some residue. My hair felt sticky and awful to touch.

Oyin Honey Hemp-did nothing for my hair.

Oyin-Burnt Pomade-Love this stuff. Provides great shine and is a grease like consistency. the smell is awesome. Would def. repurchase.

Oyin-Shine & Define. I love the smell but it did nothing for my hair. Left residue like feel to my hair.

My Honeychild- I ordered samples and conditioner and none of them I would repurchase. Everything worked so-so to completely awful and the smell of the products made me nauseated.

Qhemet-Honeyhairbush tea- my hair is too thick. It really did not do anything for me.

Qhemet Heavy Cream- I like it a lot. Thick consistency. My hair stays moisturized. I have enough to last into next year :look:

Qhemet Hair Balm-Like the smell. It does a good job for providing sheen. Lasts a long time.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Qhemet!!!:love: These products are my HG's. Perfect especially for hard to moisturize hair. Her pomades are the bomb! No bad ingredients like mineral and wax but they feel like regular grease. Def repurchase over and over. :)

Carol's Daughter healthy hair butter is good for twists and individual braids. It provides very nice shine and hold. But it does contain beeswax.

MyHoneyChild - I am using the type3/4 hair creme and honey hair creme for my braidouts. The honey hair creme especially makes it easy for me to brush the sections of my hair with my denman before braiding. It also makes the ends curl up into ringlets.

My samples came from sistaplace.biz the other day. I just have to say that I am SOLD on the Blended Beauty Soy Cream Shampoo!!!!!!! I don't even like shampoo but I will definately start using this shampoo regularly. It smells yummy, almost like pudding. :lick: The times I did use shampoo, my hair would immediately feel stripped, dry and frizzy but not with this stuff. It immediately smoothed and elongated my multi-textured hair, I was in shock so I used it again to make sure I wasn't imagining and got the same results

The verdict is still out on the Blended Beauty Quenching Conditioner because I have two Curls conditioners that I want to try but it seems to be a pretty good conditioner. I'll just have to see if the Curls conditioners are better before I make a decision. I also used a few of the Curls products but I am going to do a more thorough experiment tomorrow although these products definately left my hair soft and fluffy.

I just received my order of MYhoney Child products today. I ordered the Olive You! Deep Conditioner and the Type 4 Hair Creme. I haven't tried either of them yet, but the feel of them is...well...different. I was expecting the Type 4 creme to be like a butter, but it's very light and fluffy and when you rub it between your palms, it turns "clear," and feels watery (if that makes any sense). It may work really well on wet hair. I tested it out on my mannequin head, and it made her hair incredibly soft and shiny. It may work really well with relaxed hair too, but I may need something a bit heavier (preferably beeswax free). I hope that I like these products. I want to try the Honey Love Pomade also, but I haven't yet gotten around to buying it. I need a really good pomade and the Honey Love sounds just about right. I want to try the Asha's sunkissed also, but it has beeswax :(.

I'm also expecting another order tomorrow. They're Blended Beauty's Straightening Glaze and Straight Pearl.

ETA: I just tried the Olive You! Deep Condtioner, and it wasn't much of anything special. It went on very smooth, and it seemed as if it would be a keeper. When I was about to rinse it out, I was hoping for a highly moisturized, slippery feel...but I didn't get it. This conditioner is okay. It may be better as a pre-poo. I tried using the Type 4 hair creme on my wet hair, but it didn't do anything ::sigh::. I'll try it on dry hair next.

I may send these products back; I dunno.

The only Asha's natural product that really worked for my hair was the "shea-what" pomade. Ironically, I ordered the samples kit of all of the product and this one was a bonus. I think that my hair is allergic to beeswax but works well with pure honey.

I also liked Oyin handmade's burnt sugar braid pomade. I ordered some before her hiatus and just used it yesterday. I love the way it smells and it melts in my hair. I will definitly buy this again.

I bought a hair mask from My Honeychild and it was really thin. I think I sold this in a swap.

With Qhemet's stuff, I still use her Olive and HoneyHydrating balm mixed with almost everything I use on my hair. I do use her shampoo bars on my body but not my hair because it really gave me the itchies. Go figure.

I love Anita Grants products
I use her Bassau shampoo bar, now I've been no-pooing for ages, but after the raves it got on np.com, I decided to try it, and haven't looked back. It's really good if you live in a hard water area, my hair feels so soft... And the lather!

I make sure I never run out of rhassoul cubes. I still haven't made it with coconut milk as per instructions, but even with just water it really mosturises the hair and seems to detangle at the same time.

I recently finished my oyin sample pack, and the only thing I liked was the greg juice. I really disliked whipped pudding and I ended up using it on my hands and feet.

The only thing I liked from the qhemet sample pack was the olive and honey hydrating balm. Everything else made my hair hard and dull. I am still on the fence on sidr tree butter balm.

I loved Devacurl No Poo, but Nature's Gate tea tree conditioner is a decent replacement.

I also loved Blended Beauty volcanic hair mask and curl quenching conditioner but I keep hearing that the owner has issues with black people. So I am not sure if I am going to buy anything from her again.

I am going to try MyHoneyChild after I use up my stash. My hair responds so differently to products than alot of the people here, so I may end up loving her line.

Qhemet...I only have the Alma and Olive Heavy cream. I dont care for it much at all. I only use it to try to get rid of it. It doesnt agree with my hair. And after all the great smelling stuff from Oyin, the Qhemet smell is really blah and boring. I will not purchase this product again.

I agree. I bought the hydrate sampler pack. It came the day after I got my weave so I only really used it on my edges but I'm not impressed. And the products don't really smell like anything. I'm going to try them again once I take my hair down but I don't think I'll be purchasing again. I get better results with my cantu shea leave in and it's 5.99 for a good sized jar. I need some good smelling products. Maybe I'll try some Oyin stuff next go round.

Qhemet: Overall grade is C-
I ordered the sampler pack, hated everything. It all felt too oily, and not 'creamy' enough. Also, I had gotten the Oyin sampler pack first, and everything smelt so clean and pure - the Qhemet stuff definitely smelled more chemical -like. I actually swapped my sampler pack for some essential oils - I tried it ONCE on my hair, and knew I had something for a trade.

I agree. I tried the sampler pack of Qhemet and it was more greasy on my hair than anything. Currently trying quite a few products out, Blended Beauty and Curls. I want to try Curl Junky but I will get rid of the products on hand. I used Jamaican Mango and Lime on my twists during my last transition, I started using it on my curls and I am a fan. Not a fan of Carols Daughter Mimosa that was too greasy for my hair. I do want to try a couple of her recommended products for curls.

*Sorry about your grandmom.*

I know this is off topic, but really? What did I miss?(I have been MIA) What are her "issues" with us because I purchased from her around October 2005, when she was still testing fragrances for her products, and I was considering buying a few of her new items. I would really like the 411 on this. She seemed really nice when I ordered from her and I am sure she knew I was black...isn't she (Stacy) 1/2 black herself?

Carol's Daughter-loved theyr sea salt scrub, moisture cream, the hair line did nothing for me I tried
mimosa hair honey=too heavy for me
leave=in-it was basically scented water, my hair drank it up, and nothing
conditioners didn't give me the slip I wanted, my hair didn't feel soft
Oyin
love their shea butter, smells good, it's very greasy fell though.
deoderant works, BUT it turns your underarms brown/black it looked like I had a stain under my arms.

My honeychild
their deep conditioner was really good, good slip, nice smell, the jar is too small for the price that's all it's hard on the wallet. If I have extra to spend I'll get someomor eof thier conditoners didn't try the shampoo.

Qhemet
sidr butter, gel, lotion, they did nothing gave me no slip, no shine, no softness or moisture.
But this is just with my hair they may work for you.

The ONLY way the Whipped Pudding works for me is if I apply leave in, coconut oil, then whipped pudding to style. When I use it this way, it's great and I might replace the Blended Beauty Happy Nappy Styles with this because I also get better hold with the whipped pudding. If I use the whipped pudding immediately after my leave in, my hair is sahara dry.

I just purchased more samples of a few Curls products. I wasn't really impressed so I decided to give it another go.

CD
Healthy hair butter: very thick, great for twists, braids, anything you put on wet. Didn't like it so much when used on dry hair.
Hair milk: love used on wet or dry, always makes my hair feel moisturized and managable.

Devacurl: adore the No Poo. very moisturizing, and probably the only product I could use and then not use any product for a twist out etc, and not have dry gross hair. I also use the One condition, although the instructions are really confusing, it does not say to rinse on no poo and follow w/ condition, which you do rinse, but I'm assuming it's a typo because the no poo is too think to not rinse out.

I love miss jessie's curly buttercreme, and curly pudding, but I'm always looking for a cheaper alternative, if anyone has any suggestions. I also think I will be ordering asha's or oyin or both very shortly. I'm such a pj:ohwell:

Yes she is half black herself but lets just say some of her beliefs are off the wall:perplexed but now that black people buy her products you will never be able to unearth her mad views on the internet- cyber burned:lol: .

My hair does not like Oyin products. I remember it liking the Greg Juice but havent given it a try again in yrs.

I love QB products, my hair suffers w/o the Heavy Cream..just suffers
