Natural (or highly textured) Type 4's... what melts your tangles away?

I have almost perfected my regimen I think

All that is missing is a really good detangler. (Preferably no or low cone!)

My hair is in good condition and I don't lose too much hair detangling, but it's still a pain.

I should find something that really helps before I grow anymore hair.

What knocks those tangles out for you?

I use Suave conditioner to detangle my hair. It has a lot of slip so the comb just glides through my hair.

I use a spray mist with aloe juice and a bit of water and I mist twice a day. No problems with detangling at all and I use my big bone comb everyday (like two strands of hair in the comb per day if any at all). And it is a must to wash your hair in braids especially if you have fine strands.

I need less than I thought I did. Again finer textures cannot take too much build up of products it makes detangling a problem.

I like the Tangerine and the Cherry Blossom. It gives way more slip than the Suave Coconut.

How much aloe juice to water? I have some aloe in the fridge right now, I've been a little scared to use it though.

I got mine from the Vitamin shoppe George's Aloe Vera Juice and is at room temperature. It's about 50/50 Juice to Water (and I don't waste any money on using bottled water, it's straight from the tap). Personally I think that the spray mist with the water and juice is the equivilant of washing/adding moisture to your hair. You have to be generous with the squirts. I tend to wear protective styles so if you don't want shrinkage you might do this at night with your hair in twists. I mist twice a day (morning and night).

Good luck. I was surprised. When I went back to my sta-fro and then to the commerical spray stuff I went right back to my spray mist. I only changed because I thought it couldn't be that simple. And I realised that it was that simple, just spray mist water (and aloe juice) and a light moisturiser and with me its Qhemet Olive and Honey Balm.

Hair is always sectioned off in big twists.

No clue what melts tangles away coz I just don't allow them to happen.

I usually don't wear my hair out uncombed (as in WNGs, braidouts), nor do I wear it out much. If I do wear it out, it's after painstakingly finger-combing each braid/twist section out till all strands are separated, and then wearing the hair that's just been finger combed in big plaits to keep it from tangling. It's washed in those plaits, undoing and combing through each while wet and drenched with conditioner--a task that is a breeze because I never allowed the tangles to form in the first place. For example, this hair was combed with a fine tooth bone comb (not the pick comb you saw in the vid but a real bone comb from China (attached)) working on small sections at a time. It was drenched in conditioner and easy to comb coz again, I take extra precautions by keeping hair stretched or strands locked in a parallel state so as not to allow tangles.

If I plan to wear my hair out, I apply S Curl and comb it out taking advantage of the slip provided by the S Curl. I usually with braid the hair for the night, again to keep strands from curling around each other as I sleep and rub my head against the pillow, and baggy. So the combing in the AM is a breeze. I don't do WNGs, which I also believes is why my hair doesn't get a chance to do its own thang.

Neith, a friend of mine IRL asked me about this, because she went natural because of me and was always complaining of tangles. I suggest you try Herbal Essences Hello Hydration and comb out in the shower with a Jilbere detangling comb. HH has the most slip I've ever experienced.

Trust me.

There's also the Hydralicious Line they smell great. Try washing your hair in parts and while conditioning each section, gently comb out tangles with the comb. I swear, I haven't dealt with tangling issues since.

Herbal Essences and any heavy cone conditioners just cause my hair to stick together, like they are a wax. It made detangling even harder.

The best detangling mix I've found is mixing egg with V05 and oil. Alternatively I could use mayo + V05, but the viscous feel of the egg gave the best slip ever. It's just that you can't do it too often if you are sensitive to the protein in egg.

Otherwise I use V05.

Cantu Shea butter and a shower-heat cap. I just leave the cap on for about 15mins. Tangles all gone.

It depends on what you are looking for basic detangling or styling detangling. Again for fine hair textures shampooing and washing in braids is key but make sure that your braids are not too tight and that you remove all the conditioner. For styling purposes, I always like Nonie keep my hair in big twists (now under a silk scarf and hat when going out now that the weather has changed) and if I need to show my hair I just scoop it up into a high pony puff (using a jumbo scrunchie) and it goes back again into twists (about 6) at night. Again if I am wearing the pony puff I will not use the mist until I get home at night or my hair will shrink because it has not had enough time to dry. I don't use all these sticky and creamy products for detangling because it causes my hair to mat up together, too much protein and glycerin build up and my strands are too fine to take that. Trust me on the aloe juice and water and you can use a product you are comfortable with to seal and hold the moisture better.

Shea butter and V05. I put shea butter in my hair before I rinse (I rinse with warm water and nothing else) and the heat melts the shea and my hair is incredibly soft; very similar to adding olive oil.

My detangler is without a doubt any V05 conditioner. I used to be a Suave person but tried V05. Had to pick up Suave again b/c Target didn't sell V05 and it will be the very last time. V05 is much better at detangling my 4a natural hair.

HE HH. I was no-cone for a while but realized something was missing from my regimen. HE HH is the best I've found for detangling my hair. I also like Oyin Handmade Honey Hemp. I let that sit on my slightly damp hair for 20-30 minutes and my hair untangles easily.

baggie my hair ( i usually leave it on over nite but you don't have to)

im a 3c but my hair tangles around itself quite often and i detangle with oyin honey hemo conditioner and it MELTS the tangles away.
last night was the first time i used qhemet coco gee detangler and im pretty sure im in love with it. but since its a cream and not a conditioner i will only use it to take out braids. glad i purchased two jars and there is a store near me that carries it. try it

also i agree that yes to carrots conditioner is a great detangler in the shower but it does not moisturize my hair very well. i have an extra bottle and when im done with it i will not repurchase.

Additional things that melt the tangles away: saturating my hair in conditioner and oil and runing my hair under a cascade of water and combing it section by section....its great!

But LeKair Cholesterol + at least 15 mins of heat in a plastic cap HANDS DOWN.
