I love these threads, i'm currently 4 months post and plan to BC after a year and a half transition. Im subscribing to this thread in case i BC before then!
when i did my BC it was that short and I think without being stretched from what i remember i was at neck length... it was growing though I think the first year is the hardest... then after that year it gets easier and grows faster, depending on what you are doing to it and if your routine involves tlc.
I still have about 2 months to go before I'm at my one year, but right now my back is just past my collarbone, my sides are just hitting my bone, and my bangs are at the top of my chin. Definitely won't reach APL but my back will be past SL. I BC'ed to an inch.
My 1 year is in Dec but I BC'd down to barely under 2 inches.
I alternated between twists and WNG's throughout the year. I just rollersetted my hair this weekend to see the true length and I am just at shoulder length (smiling still).
I may use heat more during the winter, but I really believe that protecting my ends is what helped me.
This is 2 weeks after my BCThis is two months ago in twists
This is a quick length check about a month ago, only for the back
I transitioned for 5 months.
I big chopped down to less than 1/2 an inch. I think my hair was ear/chin length on the sides and neck length in the back. I'm not for sure because I didn't do a length check by stretching out my hair on my 1 year anniversary.
I did my big chop in May 2005:
Here's a pic from June 2006 with my hair in plaits:
