Natural Hair Trim Gone Wrong!!

@5:40 The woman was right. She said that the stylist should have straightened it or blown it out before cutting it. I am natural and the only time I cut my hair is when I blow it out and flat iron it. There is no way you are going to get an even cut if you cut it in its natural state especially if you have really tight coils you have to tug at to cut.

Also when straighten it you can see damage better because 4a/b coily hair will show damage well compared to it in its natural state.
the only time i trim my hair is when it is straightened, for this exact reason. yes you can trim curly/kinky hair, but there is a certain technique that most people don't know. i'd rather straighten and get a good stylist to trim it for $5 than get a "specialist" to trim it unstretched for $20+.
I'm a subbie as well and I feel awful that she lost so much progress due to a trim that was actually a cut. Also for the sytlist to say that the Good Hair is in the back...I mean like really???:perplexed It's a shame that if you want a true trim you have to visit a YT salon. My heart goes out to her.
be careful with that now. in 2009, i got my first trim since my BC and i went to hair cuttery specifically so i could get a white girl to trim my hair. i don't know if i just got the one from the hood or she thought that since i was black she had to talk to me a certain way, but the first thing out her mouth was "ooh, you need a touchup!" like i said, i was natural. after the looooong talk i gave her about exactly what i wanted her to do, she STILL gave me a blunt CUT instead of trimming my splits.

i feel her pain. this is EXACTLY how i felt in june when my stylist gave me that hack job. yes my hair was straight and yes she cut it evenly, but she took off WAY too much when in the past she had NEVER cut more than i asked. i'm not letting anyone else near my head with scissors, either.

Aww that reeeeeally sux! That's why now that I'm growing out my hair, I only get my hair trimmed when its flat ironed.

I've gotten my hair cut numerous times while wet and most stylists, men or women, just dont know how to cut curly-kinky hair in it's natural state. I've only had one person who was able to cut my hair wet/in its natural state, and it'd be perfect when I straightened it. The joke is, if you looked at his hands, his fingers were deformed from arthritis. Luckily, that risk payed off.

Oh no...she also mentioned she was going to a ceremony :nono: That SUCKS! But on the bright side we can all learn from her mistake and run the other way when someone approaches with scissors

That was horrible. I feel bad for her. I would have gotten up. She did take that way better then I would have.

I know some people who trim natural hair in twists. I would like to learn how to trim without having to straighten.

Me too. Supposedly there is someone called Zhara (not sure if she's on Youtube or on here but another poster mentioned her) and she trims her hair while in its natural state. I don't mind paying extra money because the thing is, I'm trying to stay away from heat for a long time until my regimen is 100% but I want a trim right now because I'm still unsure about how healthy my ends are (they tend to be bushy-idk if that's bad or good)

My current stylist has yet to trim my hair or talk about it and I've been going to her for about 4.5 months. One day I asked her if I needed a trim and she looked through it and said, "No. Your ends may not be perfectly even but they look good so leave it alone." I think I fell in love with her at that moment.

My hair is noticeably growing and I believe that's one reason, in addition to me doing other things. I see a few splits here and there and I'll search and destroy if I do but I'm so glad I've learned that trimming MY hair every set time is not necessary.

I wish I could view, but I'm at work...but from reading the comments this is why I don't like other people triming my hair. The person that I go to maybe once a year has always been told by me NO TRIMS. Now when I wanted my texturized ends BC off, she was so afraid to cut my hair. She did attempt to blow dry my hair first, but I purposely told her not to b/c you couldn't see the difference in my natural and texturized hair once it's blow dried, so I told her to cut while it was wet to get all the straighter ends off.

I trim my hair while wet. I don't find it inaccurate at all. I end up looking just fine and I notice no unevenness. I trim my hair just liks RusticBeauty on youtube. I spray it wet, comb it through, slide it down between the pointer and middle finger and snip the ends. I then twist my hair up into twists and cut off all the stray hairs sticking out from the twist since they are usually a different length than the rest. I feel bad for this lady, and I think she should try DIY. Whether it's a wet cut or dry cut

This is why when I need a trim I head over to Wal-Mart or Fantastic Sams w/ my hair straightened and let my guy or this other white female trim it. I show them exactly how much I want taken off, I tell them I want it cut straight across...I had a stylist hold the scissors straight up and down and cut my ends "jagged before". I am very thorough in explaining what I want. Hair envy is a real thing, and I refuse to let any black stylist who I don't know extremely well trim my hair anymore...yeah, it's that serious to me...there are too many stories like this one to validate my beliefs.

Awww, poor her. This is another reason I'll probably never ever let anyone else (apart from my mother) do my hair. NEVEEEEEEEEERRRRR!!!

Ladies, once a stylist starts disagreeing with you about what you want done to YOUR hair or starts putting down your healthy hair care practices ....please get up out of that chair. It's YOUR hair and YOUR money!
