I have to use both because I always relax in halves a few days apart. What if one half is slightly more fabulous than the other? What will I do?

That's a good idea, AudraChanell.

Why do you relax in halves, UmSumayyah? Could you perhaps take one kit and just mix half for now and the other half when you're ready? I've been hearing a whole kit is more than enough.

I've seen other relaxers change the look of their packaging before and the
content and quality remained the same when I used them.

I think the most important thing is that the ingredients match up when you look at the listing.

I have thick hair and I am slow and uncoordinated. I tried relaxing in halves doing the front first, rinsing and then doing the back. But I could never get to all the hair that way.
So I tried doing left side and right side instead. That way there isn't too much hair horizontally for me to handle, and I have plenty of time to smooth properly for an even result. This has worked out beautifully. The problem, though, is that I can't rinse out only one side this way. All the hair gets wet so I must relax a few days apart. That means using 2x as much relaxer. OK for the 5.99 African Pride, but a bit painful for 60 bucks- a-pop PHYTO.

UmSum, one thing I tried the last time I texturized to help me go quicker is prior to applying any chemical, I part my hair into small sections and used duckbill clips to keep them seperate until I'm ready for that section. That way, I was able to do my whole head in 12 min. I was never able to do that before. Good luck.

I do the same thing as Queenie and I can it done rapidly. Even my novice fiance was able to get it in in a reasonable amount of time. I just worked his side a little more. Plus it was in four sections but I didn't dare comb it out , didn't wanna see breakage. So if you did that it should help. One of those brushes for hair color might help ya too.

Now I'm not big on following rules and really this was a mistake, but my scalp got wet in some spots before I relaxed. I didn't burn or anything though. I was trying to spray it down to find the demarcation line and I was rushing, so I didn't even let my hair dry. So I think if you rinse and your scalp/hair gets a little wet it should still be okay.

Also I think you'll find that with the Phyto, the processing time is a lot slower. Not sure what the PH is, but my Index 1 was very mild. Keep that in mind also.

I think I may actually try to divide the relaxer in half (never done that before) so my touchups will cost $60 instead of $120.

Same here! When I use 2 mirrors to see that back of my head, all those sections get very confusing. 1/2 way through I freak out and spend too little time smoothing in order to finish the application. I panic.

I can't take Phytorelaxer to my regular stylist, as he'd refuse to apply it. I don't feel comfortable returning to any of the Dominican salons I've gone to here in Boston. Looks like I'm all set for round 3 of self-relaxing.

You should find someone to help you. Someone who doesn't know much is the best . Just b/c some ppl think they are hair experts and don't listen to your instructions. Ppl that don't know much (MEN) are great b/c they will be much more likely to be cautious and conservative. The demarcation line should be clear and if not spray it w/water to make it really clear and show them were the product should go. I run neutralizer thru the rest of length so that if they track a little thru the hair its sitting on neutralizer.
