Great progress. Your locs definitely gained length and thickness (thickness galore). What made you decide to loc? I love them on other women but I don't think they would compliment my face/head/body or anything else that I have. You look beautiful, keep up whatever it is that has you growing and maintaining like you are...!:yep:

Thank you. I went natural almost 4 years ago and realized that I was wearing my hair in double-strand twists A LOT. They were easy to maintain, I liked the way they looked, and people would compliment me but -- once in a while -- they'd ask if my twists were locs.

After having people ask me if I was locking my hair over and over again, I just decided to give it a try.

your locs are beautiful. I have been flirting with the idea of locs for a few years, I ought to just get on with it.

Which method did you use to start them? It looks like you were able to skip the "unintentional messy looking" phase...how did you manage that?

I started with 2 strand twists. My hair was unintentionally messy looking for a while and still is some days. When I get a certain amount of regrowth, my hair gets pretty big.

I think it was about 2 or 3 months into my loc journey when I posted a pic of what I considered to be messy hair on Instagram. Other people who had locs were commenting that they liked the look on me. I then decided to start wearing my hair like that to school instead of trying to pull it back/style it. My peers at school complimented me as well.

It was great because I started to really love my hair and lose the insecurity/stress I sometimes felt regarding maintaining it. :)

I guess what I'm trying to say is that even though I have thick hair, I was never going for the 'big look'. It's unintentional but some see it as the look I go for.
