My health food store rant!!

There is a health food store, two blocks from my office and I have never shopped there. A co worker has asked me to join her several times, and today I decided to go before her sabbatical.

I was glad I went because they had so many products I wanted to try ON SALE, Giovanni, Aubrey Organics and J/a/s/o/n/s were 30% off and no shipping :yep:

Anyway, my rant is because I am the ONLY AA in my office, so my co worker was not...why did the individual who assisted me have to be a militant black with natural hair and major attitude about it? I guess you know where I'm going...she went on and on with how I am killing myself with perms (she 'used' to perm but saw the light) and I need to stop trying to be something that I am not, and on and on she went.

Now, what was so wrong with a person having their own opinion? She was having this in front on my co worker, who is wonderful and caring person - who by the end had this totally bewildered look on her face as if she told me to perm my hair and now she was soo sorry. I felt her comments were totally rude and inappropriate.

I would love to go back because their inventory was simply awesome!! Every oil, creme, (almost every) hair care product. But she totally turned me off!! I feel that if I go in again, she'll check to see if I still have my perm and off she goes again.

P.S. If you really want to know the truth - I'm not even African American or black...that's a name from western civilization...God doesn't refer to me as either...I'm simply his creation - perfectly made (w/human flaws)

Why can't you go back. If she goes off again let her know that you appreciate her OPINION but you are quite happy being relaxed. If she persists, walk away, look for a manager and explain how their employee was berating your hair styling methods.

I am sorry you had to go through that. That lady really has some nerve!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:nono: I'm sorry, but I would have spoken to her manager right then & there - that is TOTALLY unprofessional, and TOTALLY unacceptable. When you are at work, helping the public, you do JUST that, and keep your personal opinions to yourself.

Would she berate someone coming in for eggs because she's vegan? (Don't know, I'm just saying!)

Unacceptable. Totally.

I agree. What you do with your hair is none of her business.

ITA! When YOU DO GO BACK, speak with the manager and whoever else you need to!

I would just say "you know what? spare me the natural nazi propaganda. Thanks." With a smile of course. I would continue to go in there, and shop and not even say anything or pay any attention to her. If she did that again, I would complain to her manager, definitely.

You know..I don't even mind her giving customers her opinion, if she perceives a customer as needing her help, they ask for specific help and she 'genuinely' is trying to help. She came off abrasive and just plan rude.

She SAW my coworker standing there, and to tell me that 'perming my hair is trying to be something I am not' and 'just be what the father designed you to be'...co worker is now totally confused as if she was saying to herself "what is It~Can~Grow trying to be?"

I didn't ask for her hair advice, I simply asked where are the hair products and oils. God knows I regret I ever mentioned my hair "used" to shed and off she went....OH I KNOW YOUR PROBLEM.

I'll go back..I'll just drive by first to make sure she's not walking around :yep:

oh man. i keep reading threads like this where such n such went this and that place, and this person said this and that. everyone of ya'll need a pocket-sized Mzhotniz to travel with you , to handle situations like this for you. that lady would hate me by the time i walked out of that store. for some reason, i can't let people (unless related or a friend or unless I ASKED for the opinion) give me criticism without me spitting venom. let me know if you need me next time you go to that store. i'll be catching a flight out there lol. no, but for real, dont be scurred to walk up in that store. that lady didnt have no business giving her unwanted 'advice' and next time she say something off the wall, tell her that you don't appreciate her comments and if you wanted to know something about YOUR hair you would have specifically asked her.

I feel you on just plain avoiding her - but I'm also thinking of the owner of that business....how much business is s/he LOSING because of this rude, overstepping employee? Because if she was bold enough to spit mess to you on your hair, I'm SURE she's doing the same thing to erryone else who doesn't fit into her 'idea' of what they should be. :nono:

I would at least let someone there know.

Sooooooo annoying how people (that you don't know) be all up in your face saying things they have no business saying to a stranger. You can truly ignore her. What did you say to her because I know you had to be shocked at her comments?

If this woman was not the owner of the store, I'd have a talk with the owner, if I were you. THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT, and if you were not asking for her opinion, she needs to keep her mouth shut! I'd definitely want your feedback, if it were my establishment! :yep:

I was too scared to say anything :perplexed..I was worried for my life - she had me thinking I was gonna die right then and there from the perm...not :nono: :yep:

Honestly, it felt like I had encountered a member from the militant group "No Perming in 2008"...if they isolate you and surround you with their propaganda you slowly become sucked in believing in their cause.

I had to get outta there because:
1) I found what I needed
2) she announced to her manager (via everyone in the store) she was gettin' ready to take her break and
3) my co-worker had this afraid look on her face that something was about to happen, or maybe I would turn on her for making me feel like I needed to look like her and get a perm (IDK) , so I had to rush her back to familiar surroundings :lachen:
