Thank you for sharing the video. I'm glad your journey has led you down a path that you seem happy with. I'm sure many only use weaves and wigs as a form of protection once they get a certain length.

GREAT VID!

i hate that i wore so much weave in my past... it too was a vicious cycle
my hair definitely looked better than the... yet was damaged by the weave/MOSTLY BRAIDS .... yet to cover my damaged hair I had to get more weaves!!!! (again chronic micro braid wearer)

People thought I was bald... but I was back then insecure about the thinning hair (from braids) so I would never take it down

ridiculous

I started a similar thread a few days ago. :)

Since gong natural earlier this year, I have essentially sworn off all forms of weave and extensions. Much like you, I spent many years addicted to weaves, half-wigs and to a lesser extent, braid extensions. Now don't get me wrong, I don't think that weaves are necessarily a bad styling option, I just feel that when you have spent the vast majority of your life addicted to them as I have, even to the point of valuing them above your own hair, something needs to change.

And for those of us who have and are making these changes, I think its good that we are developing a healthier, more positive relationship with our own hair. Yours looks like its doing very well so keep up the good work! :yep:

I used to wear phony pony for PS and after awhile it did become additive I didn't want to show my own hair because the PS was so much bigger than my own. I did it for a year wearing the phony pony and after I stopped working I just used my own hair in a tucked up ponytail. I am not going back to those phony tail.

Thanks for sharing and I am sorry for your lost of your mother especially at such a tender age. HHJ.

Thanks for sharing, and I'm glad your hair is thriving now. I never really had a problem with braids, but I did let an African girl do mine a while back ($180!) and of course I ignored the other women in the shop with non-existent hairlines. :nono: I left that shop with a braid in the front of my head that was so tight, my head was throbbing & I could see the skin being pulled. It later turned into a sore. Gross! I could kick myself for that, and thankfully my hairline didn't suffer too much, but it was too thin for my liking. I've babied it ever since.

Your post took me back! In high school, I had some tracks that I would wrap around my real hair & put in a bun hoping nobody could tell it was fake. To be honest, even now I'm not much of a ponytail wearer because I don't think my pony is long enough :( I hated wearing buns too, until I found my mesh doughnut bun contraption. I'm always paranoid when my hair isn't down that it's going to look short. I'm dreaming of a ponytail so long that it touches my bra strap!

And thank you very much. I never stop missing her, but God has placed people in my life that give me the wisdom & guidance I need, and I'm thankful for that.

I'm glad you shared this!
There are a lot of women who hide their hair under weaves and are ashamed of their hair. I think they feel more prettier and therefore more accepted when they have longer, thicker beautiful hair.
My first time ever getting any type of weave in my hair was my freshman year in college. I got kinky twists. They were so easy to take care of and let me have an extra 10 minutes to sleep ( yes, those 10 minutes counted!) But I would only keep them in for 4 weeks because I would start missing my hair. Then I would put them in again about 2 months later.
I think my hair is better than any weave but sometimes you just get frustrated with your hair and have to miss it to love it again.

I am not getting a weave but I will be braiding my hair up and wearing my lace fronts at four week intervals, I plan on starting that either at the end of this month or beginning next month. It is easier for me and my busy schedule. :) but 4 weeks is the max and I will take 2 weeks to pamper it and prepare it for another 4 weeks.

Thanks for sharing! I had a similar problem with braiding extensions for a few years. Eventually they took out my front hairline. I had no hair in the front at all and then when I got sick my hair just fell out in patches, even with the braids as a protective style, so I shaved off all of my hair to start over again. Braids, weaves and lace wigs can make you look good but it's easy to become dependent on them and not want to even see your own hair. Sometimes you have to start over from ground zero and BC but for many women this is scary.

It's been two years since I've worn synthetic hair and I have no plans to go back.

I enjoyed your video & I believe that I use half-wigs as crutch b/c I don't really like dealing w/ my hair since I lack styling skills. Eventually I hope to use half-wigs occasionally & not everyday.

I felt that same way for a while &im now living with the after effects. I'm happy that we are ditching the weave and becoming friends with our real hair :)

I can pretty much understand someone being against wearing fake hair. I prefer wearing my own hair. I must say that wearing sew-ins for the last year and a half has REALLY helped me to retain ALOT of my hair growth. I wore micro braids off and on a few years back to grow out my perm. I didn't know as much as I do now and as a result my hair was dry and would stay at APL.

Wearing sew-ins have also made me become more patient, being that I don't get see my growth for about every 3 months when it's taken out. I also think that I'm abled to keep my routine simple because all I have to do is wash & moisturize the hair as needed.

With that being said I think wearing fake hair can be a good or a bad thing. If someone wears it because they're self conscience or ashamed of what's naturally theirs, then that's a problem. But if one wears fake hair and benefits greatly then I say do what works for your hair. I am a few inches away from MBL ( if not already), then I'll be on my way to TBL. HHG everyone!
