My hair is stronger

...from flat ironing. Okay, I had a date Saturday and flat ironed my hair. (Cheated from the bun challenge.) I CW, did my usual moisturizer and leave-in, airdried in a ponytail, then flat ironed. I must say my hair seems so much stronger than from air drying buns. I have very little shedding and any hair that shreds passes the strand test. When I pull it, it takes a few times to break and I can feel it's stronger. My hair just seemed so weak when I was airdrying and bunning. I'm at a lost. Has this happened to anyone else?

Good point! I was thinking about the same question that you ask. The last time I stretched my hair seem weak when I airdried and easily broke. I decided during this stretch I was going to start blowdrying when the new growth becomes unbearable. My hair was starting to break and shed. I shampoo my hair and did a protein treatment on saturday and airdried in a bun. So I decide to flat iron my hair and my hair has not been shedding when I comb or anything. I remember when I was asking my stylist about stretching and she was telling me that I need to smooth the newgrowth out with oil and blowdrying.

Does this mean I have to invest in a flat iron now? I was using my roomy's. Jeesh.

I don't think flat-ironing in itself has made my hair stronger, but my routine including my flat-iron has really worked well for my hair.

Upgrading from a Revlon ceramic flatiron to my FHI made a HUGE noticable difference, though.

Airdrying just doesn't work for everyone.

I am confident that protecting my hair before heat application prevents too much damage for me and I can get the style I want easy in one shot thus avoiding manipulation, combing, etc.

I plan on cutting back after I get longer and have more style options, in order to get past shoulder length.

Airdrying alone has never worked for me. The airdry/flatiron combo is what gets me through the last few weeks of my stretch. I use a good heat protectant and try not to do it more than once a week. If you notice any ill effects, you can always go back to bunning, but if it works for you, go for it!

I feel like the FHI flat iron is harmless. I have tested it by clamping a piece of tissue paper between the plates for like 30 seconds. Not even a puff of smoke or browning of the paper (I did this with the iron at 370 degrees).

Where did you and HoneyDew get you FHI flat iron from? And how much did it run you?

Now why you, especially with how gorgeous, healthy & long your hair looks in your avatar, gonna go tell me something like that? I am a recovering heat addict, only airdryed & stayed away from direct heat for months (excpet for a special occasion) and now you gonna tell me that I can buy that iron and my hair will still end up as healthy as yours because it's harmless. Shame on you!! j/k. ......off to look at FHI iron prices. :look:

I flat iron sometimes. But rollersetting also leaves me with stronger hair and without so much heat. Airdrying doesn't work for me, either, and I've given it up forever.

When I was natural, though, I always airdried and never, ever used any type of heat. But that was then and this is now...

co-signing on the airdry or blowdry & FHI flat iron. The FHI is a lifesaver when the ng comes in.

And now that I have my new Andis 1875 watt ionic dryer, too - I am in heaven!

When I flat iron my hair the heat seals in the moisture and my hair stays longer moisturized and appears stronger. Maybe it has to do with the heat and the moisture being sealed into the strand :yep:

You're the only one to mention this. But this is what I was getting at, just didn't know how to say it. Good point.

Hahah. You too girl. I know.

Yes. I am in love, thanks to KhandiB's post about it.

They even sent me a free comb attachment!

I emailed to ask Andis where I could order an extra one. In addition to the info she said she would send me one free this time. I got it today! They don't sale replacement concentrators, but I don't use that anyway.

I love this thing.
