My hair feels so hard and brittle

I just took out my braids that i've been wearing for 6 weeks. Now my hair feels so hard and brittled. It has sheen and everything, it looks really good but it feels horrible. What can you guys recomend, what should i do?

bg, when I first started braiding my hair I would experience this, but I don't anymore. While it was in braids (against what some may advise), I would use braid sheen, but I'd either mixe coconut oil, primrose oil, or EVOO to it. I found these would keep my hair so soft once the braids came out. However, now that you have the braids out, do a really deep conditioning treatment, and I'd add some oil in with it if you can sit under a dryer. You'll find that it will soften up...well, mine did. Don't panick, I guess this results if you hair wasn't moisturized enough while the braids were in. Also, before I take my braids out now, I always give them a good spray and then take them out. This tends to make the braids come out easier and then it gives it a slight moistness, which will make combing each sections much easier.

I went through that too this time around, I found that I needed a creamy moisturiizer to get it feeling soft again. Elasta qp oil recovery and mango butter worked well for me.

My hair felt like this after having it bleached. I used Fantasia IC's Reconstructor and it finally felt really soft like it normally does when it's wet, not rough.

Are you supposed to treat the hair hair somehow before using it? I had cornrow extensions for a few days one time and when I removed them my own hair was feeling kinda crunchy.

My hair has improved significantly in the texture department since I've been using Aveda's "Curessence" shampoo and conditioner. I also use Vitapointe hair cream and wrap my hair at night. I am very satisfied with the texture of my hair right now.

Moisture, moisture, moisture. Try humecto I think it's great. Also NTM daily deep conditioner is cheap and VERY good...my new love /images/graemlins/look.gif
Also try doing a preshampoo treatment. I like kemy oyl with honey. And use a shampoo without ALS or SLS. My hair was pretty dry as well after keeping it in braids for about 5 years. It's doing very well now. HTH /images/graemlins/smile.gif

soulchild : you can put the hair in a ACV mix to "treat" it before using. My sister puts it in a shampoo mix (shampoo with water) before using and finds it makes a difference.
Hmmmm, I wonder if a conditioner mix (conditioner with water) would make it softer as well? /images/graemlins/confused.gif
