my sis seems to have tried everything. she is relaxed and washes and dc's weekly and have tried every kind of water based moisturizer. but it seems like her hair is never that soft silky moisturized feel. even when she has good moisturizer in her hair it just feels wet but hard and brittle, almost like the moisturizer is just sitting on top of her hair, not penetrating. she needs some kinda mega moisture intervention. any regimen ideas?

She should look into the ingredients of her products, but what kind of relaxer does she use?

When I used no-lye relaxers it was a constant battle to keep my hair moisturized and soft.

Once I switched to lye relaxers my hair felt soft, silky and had lots of shine.

what products is she deep treating with?
my moms hair used to be like that until i made her start pre pooing overnight with all natural conditioners, shampooing and then deep conditioning for 30 minutes. now her hair is always soft even if she just uses grease.
maybe the products shes using just arent the right ones for her.

I have this problem The following has worked.

Hot Extra Virgin Olive Oil treatment
Mizani H2O overnight treatment
or

Wet baggy with oil overnight the day before washing in the AM.

Also,

I started sealing my ends with heavier products... vasoline or beeswax ... of course only AFTER I moisturized then bun.

If she's using a no lye relaxer, that may be the problem. At least it was for me. Now that I use lye, my hair retains moisture easily.

1. Porosity Control Shampoo
2. Protein Treatment
3. Good Moisturizing cond. like Aussie 3min Miracle or Aubrey Organics HoneySuckle Rose if u prefer something all natural<<<use these as a DC with heatcap/steamer for 30min.

^^you def should do an ingredients check of what she's using..

In this order:

1. Clarify
2. Hot oil treatment (15 minutes under heating cap, or wrap wet towel and cover w/shower cap)
3. Protein treatment
4. Moisturizing shampoo w/o sulfates (Creme of Nature)
5. Porosity Control
6. Deep conditioner (45 minutes w/heat or 2 hours w/o heat)

Stay away from flat irons, blow dryers
Roller set or air dry
Protective styles
Moisturize daily, seal with oil

Light protein every week (Aphogee Keratin Reconstructor), followed by deep moisturizing conditioner (Silk Elements MegaSilk Deep Moisturizing Conditioner in tub)...
