Ladies... Idk what's going on with my hair right now. Let me explain .

I have not changed the way I do things with my hair so I dont know why it feels like this. It feels stringy and dry and even when I moisturize and seal like I usually do it begins to feel greasy after a very short while (which never used to happen). My ends feel like ish.

I co-wash my hair 3-5 times a week depending on the amount of build-up or in I'm just doing a fresh wash and go.

I always air dry my hair. I use castor oil on my scalp after every wash and I also put it on my ends.

I have a new Leave in but i almost never use it so thats irrelevant.

I deep condition at least once a week with Jessicurl and I condition with Aussie moist 3 min miracle.

I really just don't know whats going on :(

I recently did a BKT but I've had one before and this did not happen. I will say that this BKT feel different from my last one though. I will not be BKTing again because I feel like my hair is too fine for it and it loosens my curls way too much.

Do you ladies have any suggestions? Maybe better products. Leave -in conditioner suggestions?
Anything. LOL. Maybe you can just tell me what you do if your hair starts to act funky.

This is how it has been looking. Greasy and stringy.

Thanks. I will definitely try that. I just have to find a shampoo that won't strip my BKT just so I can have a control variable to compare it to.

Erica I would just strip the BKT... Clarifying and dcing with conditioner mixed with salt. sometimes you just have to cut your losses.

DCing over night as you gradually strip your BKT should help too.

sorry :/

I noticed certain products that worked on un bkt hair does not work on my bkt hair. Also I'm using mitra de perales hair shampoo with keratin. It suppose to prolong the bkt but I agree with everyone and clarify your hair.

Stacey its not your fault. lol. We used a different brand from last time.

I agree with everyone else..co washing with con conditioners can cause build up...I recently had some breakage and my normal protein treatments were not working... I clarified using AO swimmers shampoo and a lil bit of suave clarifying poo first... I only used bottled water.. and my hair is back to normal! maybe even better!

ditto on what others said. Cowashing frequently doesn't work well for my hair. I would suggest clarifying, a porosity treatment, and a dc.

Dear OP:

Please stop the BKT. The other day, I came across reports that people are starting to report problems with Keratin treatments. Here's the thread from Oprah.com.

God bless.

Woah .. That's tragic. Thank God thats not whats going on with me. I do NOT have the money for a dermatologist visit.

I won't be BKTing again though, my hair is just too fine for it. I rather my complete curl pattern.

Thanks ladies !

Have you considered that BKT may make your hair behave differently with products? Since it is a different way of processing your hair, you may need to up your DCS and possibly a leave in with ceremides to help smooth and moisturize your hair. I recently started using Redken's anti snap leave in. My hair is relaxed, but dry as hell. The ceremides helped greatly. Something to consider if you use heat on a regular basis.

Hey Lauren.

Through experience, I believe what you need is some type of protein conditioner (if you have aphoghee two minute reconstructor), it should work for you. Then again, you say you co-wash and deep condition, but do not list if they are moisturizing/protein based. My hair was so dry and tangled after using the products (mostly moisture based), I seems odd to think that if your hair is dry to use protein:perplexed, but I used the two minute reconstrutor on dry hair (as a cowash) and my hair has never felt better, it was begging for protein.

If you are already including protein conditioners then disregard, you probably do need to use a chlating/clarifying shampoo.

Good luck to you. Let us know what works for you.

DDTexlax,
I've been meaning to add ceramides to my regimine.

Reecie,
My hair hates protein. So I have to be really careful about the protein I use. However, I am pretty sure I had an overdose of moisture. Do you know of any light protein treatments.

***UPDATE***

I clarified my hair and it is starting to feel better already. I'm wearing a wash and go today and I left a bit of the conditioner in (Aussie Moist) and used a quarter sized amount of Kinky Curly Custard.

Thanks everyone !

Cowashing so frequently just cause build up and overmoisturizing your hair actually makes it weaker and more prone to breakage .
Its really not necessary to cowash everyday +DC +moisturize.its really not beneficial.
I stopped cowashing altogether now ,although up to once or twice is enough

I don't co-wash everyday , just when I do a fresh wash n go. I try to get 2nd day hair out of each one

I'm glad the clarifying made things a bit better. I've found that when my hair misbehaves it's because of porosity issues. I follow the steps to the joico 17 minute miracle. Shampoo, porosity control for two minutes (or anything with 4.5 Ph really), reconstruct (I like aphogee two minute) and DC. I sometimes add some Porosity control to my DC. My hair always feels like butter after these steps. I do them every time I shampoo.

By the way, I'm a fine haired natural that BKTs and does wash n gos and cowashes also. I fine that sometimes the cowashing upsets my porosity balance. It might help if your leave in of choice was the optimal pH for hair, as well. I understand Kimmay has released a recipe that's talked about in the porosity challenge thread.

Yea I'm looking in to using the Kimmaytube leave in. && I am DEFINITELY going to add some porosity control to my reggie. I looked up Roux products and I'm going to most likely go ahead and get their moisturizing corrective conditioner as well.

I hope the KimmayTube mix works because I really do need a good leave in.

As far as the BKT goes. I liked the BKT better the last time I did it but I did come to a overall consensus after both these times. Personally, its not for me. The fineness of my strands mixed with the 3b areas in the front of my head and in the back of my head, makes for weiiiiiiird curl combos lol.

Its hard enough getting those sections to curl up like the rest without the effects of the BKT added in. I like REALLY curly hair, not the wavy business that gets made even more noticeable with the BKT.

But again, thank you all so much for the suggestions !! I've taken notes and looked into some things for my next paycheck lolol. THanks !

Great, good luck to you. :) Let me know how that leave in works out for you. I haven't yet tried it yet.

woww scary...They do the treatment also here in holland but people are more carefull here..or it just seems so..
Is it approved by the FDA? If so they need to hire some new people there STUPID
