She also believes that my wrapping my hair every night contributed to my thinning ends. I am back at 26 in. I am going to let it grow back w/o wrapping it so often........OH WELL........ Jade21, now I know how you felt back in 1997 when you had to cut your hair....

Oh no! Sorry to hear that SherryLove. Did you ask her to trim it for you or did she volunteer?

OH I am so sorry. did she just do it on perpose or something. I would be like please don't ever touch my hair.

What do you mean by "thinning ends?" The individual strands at the ends appear finer than at the root or there just aren't as many strands that are as long as your longest strands?

And your hair is probaby still absolutely gorgeous. I wish I had 4" to spare...

I'm sorry to hear that, but you're just now measuring it? I'm confused.

I am not just measuring it, I am just posting it.........

Pebbles/Nessa --- she volunteered because she was tired of my complaining about my ends.....They look better, but I think she took off a bit too much.....

Ooooh at first I thought you were going to say she did it while you were sleep and whacked all your hair off. Whew thank goodness that wasn't it.

Well, on the bright side, you no longer have thin ends. It'll be back to your waist in no time.

Man oh man -- grandmothers (sigh) This morning I woke up and combed out my hair and got a lot of breakage I was so upset I wanted to cry, anyway I called my grandmother like I usually do every morning. I told her about my hair and she said "hair is secondary" I almost died I mean I love her to death but I had to tell her I love her and get off the phone. I just thank God she lives three thousand miles away from me in London!
Sherry I feel your pain.

I'm sorry to hear about this SherryLove. Are you going to do the alternative to the regular way of wrapping (posted by another member a few days ago)? Maybe that will help.

Sherrylove,

What do you use to wrap your hair~comb or brush?

I used a brush to make it neat and smooth........

Sorry to hear about the cut Sherry but no, no, no to a brush to wrap your hair. A wide tooth comb does just as good a job and once you put your scarf on (that is, if you sleep in a scarf) your hair will still be smooth. Even if you wanted to go outside, you could put the scarf on for an hour and when you take it off you will have a smooth wrap.

sherry maybe i am confusing you with another poster but didnt you say you get weekly wash and sets? if so how are you wearing your hair out? i would like to get my wash and set but when they wrap they use this brush that i fear may do more harm then good. i dont want thinning edges but all they know is doobie or blow out. what do you suggest i do? God bless you all.

Now I realized, some beauticians did take a big cut on my edges with their reasons. I thank you for your sharing.

Sherrylove,

I agree with CaramelHonee! This is very important. I also wrap my hair, but I use as a wide-tooth comb or a vent brush
(plastic-coated protective bristles) which makes a big difference because my hair glides through with ease.

I must add that I am sorry to hear about this. You have beautiful hair and I can understand exactly how you feel!!!

hmm i may have to tell them to leave it alone when they are done or just put sheen and walk out with the curls. i swear i hate when she reaches for that brush. yes it is only done once a week and i loose wrap myself with my hands but i keep hearing of people and their thinning edges and i am worried with continuous times i will feel the effects. but thanks for the suggestion i will try that the next time. God bless you all.

Can someone answer this?

Will a natural bristle boar brush keep the wrapped hair from thinning?

Ditto, I wish you all my best SherryLove.

SherryLove,

I just knew that the title of this thread was just to get our attention. I didn't want to believe that someone had cut your hair
frown.gif
and then to open it up and see that it was 4 inches.

Looking at your pictures (and I do look at them alot!) --your ends didn't look bad to me. In fact, I admired you for being able to go so long without trims and still maintain beautiful, gorgeous, healthy hair.

Like Zanna said--I wish you the best! Don't break my heart like this anymore--Much Love to you girl!

I don't trust my grandmother to cut my hair but I could just imagine what she would do if I let her near me with some scissors! I'm sorry to hear that she cut off so much but on the upside it will grow back in no time. Just last month my mother cut about 2" off my hair since my ends were really overprocessed but by the end of June my hair had already grown about an inch with regular rinsing and vitamin intake and it is much healthier than before. I wish you the best of luck in growing your hair back!

I think that it may be making Sherrylove feel worse when we keep saying "Sorry to hear that". Four inches for her hair is sortof a lot, but the hair is still long and healthy. Sherrylove, I bet your hair looks really great and healthy now. I agree with everyone else that your hair will grow back superfast in no time!

I wrap my hair to set it after a wash/deep condition. I never use a blow dryer. BUT! I only wrap my hair that one time to wear down on the weekend. The rest of the week it's up in a bun in a protective style with tons of oil. I never use a brush to wrap my hair. In fact, it's been over 5 yrs since I've used a brush. To tell the truth, I havent used a brush since I was a kid.

Back in college and high school, I would wrap my hair everynight for school the next day to wear it down, and I too noticed that my hair was thinning to the point of "see through" ends.
think.gif
I had to cut my hair off and start over. Not to mention that my sis was perming my hair too fast with Super strenth relaxers.

I know I'm rambling, but I would suggest wearing protective styles throughout the week and to wrap your hair for special occasions (like going out on weekends, etc.)

No it won't. I use a boar brush, but I run hot water over it to soften the bristles before I use it. And I only brush 5 strokes to get it smooth.

SherryLove,

You've definitely got some beautiful hair. Maybe your grandmother felt like you had 4 inches to spare. Don't fret it will grow back, but I would never trim that much. I believe your ends will always be somewhat thinner afterall that hair is the oldest hair and therefore the most exposed of all the hair on your head. To me it just seems true that it would not be as healthy as new hair. However, not four inches. I would think a good rule is if your hair was say two years old, that would be around 12 inches of growth considering 6 inches a year. I believe that is what maximum growth would be, according to some of the post. So maybe only trim a months worth which would be .5 of an inch. It's late so I may not be making a damn bit of sense. But at any rate, smile, your hair is the envy of the site.
