I tried my first twistout today/ last night. I am transitioning from relaxed to natural, and have not had a relaxer since 5/2/09 (25 weeks post). I washed and wet bunned my hair yesterday with full-strength Con, as I often do. Then to prep, I just took my hair out of the wet bun (which was about 80-90% dry) and did the steps below.

I have pics of my prep and pics of the final result. I was afraid I'd look like Homie the Clown afterward :lachen:, but I think it came out ok for a 1st attempt. :) I was nervous about people at my law firm not recognizing me or staring since my hair is usually bunned or flat ironed, so I've stayed in my office like all day! :lachen:

Products used: I twisted 80% dry hair. I sprayed each twist section lightly with Motions Leave-in Con Spray and then put 2 pea sized drops of Yes to Carrots Con  (my absolute fave...thanks Pokahontas) on my hands and rubbed them together and then rubbed the con on the section from root to end. That's really all the product I used for prep. I like soft hair, so I kept it simple. :)

Twistout Prep step- made four sections on my hair and took smaller sections and did single twists all the way to the ends, then put a clip at the top to keep it from untwisting and a small perm rod (gray) on the ends so the relaxed ends wouldn't be straight.

Slept in my satin cap & even wore it to fitness boot camp this morning! I gives a DAYUM, clearly! :lachen::

After separating and fluffing the twists out, I laid my edges down with a little Garnier Fructis Brilliantine Wax (another fave ) & my smoothing brush. I then pumped one pump of GF Sleek & Shine anti-frizz serum into my hands and smoothed it through my hair and put my headband on. Finally, I did a light spritz of Lady Velvet Oil Sheen (it's SUPER LIGHT :yep: and I don't like weighed down hair). And VOILA! That's my 1st attempt! :)

Overall, I'm pleased. I thought it was TOO big for work, but I asked my DH and he said "I think you should wear it!" He's a straight hair guy, so I was really pumped that he liked it!

What I will do differently next time:
1) I will part my hair into 5 rows evenly front to back (front edges to nape) and then section the twists smaller and try to make them a little tighter. The middle seems kind of flat to me b/c I parted down the middle and did 4 sections, 2 on each half of my head, so the middle going all the way down the back has less wave.

Other than that, me likie!

Thanks ladies. I was all ready to wet it and bun it, but I'm glad I went ahead and wore it. And I'm glad I stopped being scared to try and just did it. Now I know what to tweak for the next time.

Sorry my pics are so big!

Very nice! Your hair is gorgeous! I use the same process w/ diff condish. This last time I sealed with castor oil and I have no frizz even after four days.

it looks fantastic!!
i can't believe that's only your first attempt...they'll only get better and better
