My Experience With Moegrow And Alopecia: CLIFFNOTES IN BOLD

On July 12th, I noticed a bald patch that was later diagnosed as alopecia areata. I went to a dermatologist, got a cortisone injection and was prescribed a topical steroid to use. I waited and waited for my hair to grow back as I applied the topical steroid everyday for the recommended two weeks. The patch remained completely bald with no signs of regrowth whatsoever. I recently began using my version of the moegrowth recipe (4 oz jojoba oil, 1 oz horsetail, 1 oz nettle, 2 oz of aloe vera gel, and about 1/4 oz of rosemary oil) on the rest of my head that was not bald and was careful to avoid my bald spot. Well about a week ago (8/01/08), I began using the mogrow on my bald spot as well because I figured I was already bald there, so what could it hurt? Well.....guess what?!?!?! Tuesday (8/05/08) I noticed sprouts of new hairs in my bald spot!!!!!!! In less than a week of using moegrow, the spot went from being completely bald to thinly covered in tiny new hairs. Its not covered completely like the rest of my scalp, but it is covered enough so that if the new hairs that have grown continue to grow and catch up with the rest of my scalp, it would look like I have a thin area of hair, rather than a shiny bald spot.

I attribute the regrowth of my hair to moegrow for a couple of reasons:
1. When I started using the moegrow in the bald spot, my scalp began to tingle. This tingling was not like the sensation you feel after using peppermint oil but like the feeling you get if you see something scary or strange and your scalp starts to tingle on its own. I feel like the recipe, with the aid of the rosemary oil, increased the circulation to that area of my scalp and caused some regrowth

2. I did some research on treatments for alopecia areata and a lot of the sites and published journal articles that I read said that topical steroids may not be an effective treatment for alopecia because the molecules are too large to penetrate the scalp. The cream that I had was very thick and even though it was supposed to disappear, it just seemed to cake up on my scalp

3. The hair on the rest of my head seems to be growing in a lot thicker. At first I was hesitant to claim that growth was being caused by the mogrow recipe, but since I have seen growth in a bald patch of my scalp, I am inclined to believe it works.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying 'oh, oh I grew 3 inches of hair in two days with this recipe' In fact, I have not been measuring my growth because I have been so consumed with trying to grow back hair in my bald spot. What I am saying is that moegrow has caused me to see progress in an area that is important to me, which is filling in this wide open space in my head. It is possible that the cortisone injection and/or the topical steroid cream helped my hair to grow back. It is also possible that my hair could simply have grown back because I have been praying almost obsessively for some progress. However, after I noticed the spot, and while I was using the treatments provided by the dermatologist, my hair was thinning progressively near that area in a few places and I believe that they too would have eventually become bald. It was not until I started using the moegrow that the hair loss stopped spreading and that new hairs began growing in the bald spot and the thinning areas.

I can't say that the moegrow will cause you to grow x amount of hair in y amount of time, so I don't want anyone to get those expectations from reading this post. What I can say for sure is that after I started using the moegrow recipe, my hair has grown back in an area that was bald due to alopecia areata. Therefore, I know the growth is real and not imagined. I have had bald spots years ago due to chemicals not being properly washed out of my hair and those bald spots began to fill in with new hairs within a few days. Because of the duration of the baldness, the diagnosis by my dermatologist and certain statements that were made by him, I am inclined to believe that this type of hair loss is different from times past and that the hairs were not going to grow back on their own anytime soon.

I'm very happy for you that your hair is growing back, but I'm concerned about the proportions of herbs and EO your using vs 4 oz carrier + 2 oz aloe vera. For people who DON'T have you're bald spot issue, I'd advise alot less. No wonder you got a "tingle"....rosemary does do it tho far less than peppermint.

Again, congrats.

Rosemary and peppermint are EO, I thought. Carrier oil is like EVOO and EVCO...

Yes, they are. She said was using 4 oz jojoba and 2 oz aloe vera with 2 oz of herbs PLUS 1/4 oz rosemary EO. She substituted the rosemary for peppermint because it has many of the same benefits, but w/o the awfulness of peppermint. (I hate that stuff, rosemary's the superior choice IMHO)

i used nettle, horsetail and rosemary extracts that come in liquid form. i was too lazy to get pills, open them up and then boil them in oil

She used tinctures, but I'd say powders are best for hair overall. Tinctures are made via alcohol, be they based in glycerin or alcohol. You get the higest extraction of "the good stuff" via booze, but it can be drying for hair and scalp. In the glycerine form, the original booze has been cooked out and what's left is placed in a glycerin base. They do this for children and/or people who want to avoid alcohol at all costs such as preggers women. There's a minute amount left in the glycerites tho.

I do use nettle tincture as part of my cold water rinse because it's not enough alcohol to be drying. For infusions that I intend to use often, I simply use powdered herbs.

Yup...jojoba's great stuff. Obviously your mixture's working for you. I'm just throwing ideas around. This is a very good combo infusion, so I hope more people use it.

anyone have updates from use of this?

I am soo hopping on this bandwagon. There are talks about the MoeGrow recipe everywhere... the thing is... it's really just carrier oils and essentials oils.

I never brought essential oils before until today. I purchased Horsetail and Nettle in liquid form (Alcohol Free version) and Rosemary Oil. I plan on combining it with my Doo Gro Mega Thick Growth Oil (see ingredients below).

So, my mix will be about 4.5 oz of the DGMTGO, 1 oz each of the Horsetail and Nettle Extract and 1/4 oz of Rosemary Oil (keeping under the 10:1 ratio of carrier oils to essential oil).

I plan on starting it the day after my next relaxer (Sept. 7th).

Have you tried it yet? Any success?

Doo Gro Mega Thick Growth Oil Ingredients
Soybean Oil, Soy Methyl Ester, Sweet Almond Oil, Oat Extract, Oat Protein, Meadowfoam Seed Oil, SheaButter Extract, Fragrance, Propylparaben, BHA, Tea Tree Oil, Retinol (Vitamin A), Tocopherol (Vitamin E) Matricaria Extract, Goldenseed Extract, Hops Extract, Soap Bark Extract, Calendula Extract, Henna Extract, Horsetail Plant Extract, Safflower Oil

the hairs are still growing in, which makes me very happy. i just went back to the dermatologist this week and the doctor confirmed that hairs are growing in across the spot, so i know for sure i didn't just imagine the hairs there. the derm said that when hair starts growing back in after alopecia, it grows in clear first and then becomes dark. at this point, i can see the hairs are black but i guess there could be some hairs there that i can't see yet
