If one's sure that the condition is fungal related, then Monistat makes sense. But I personally think natural remedies trump pharmaceuticals as they usually don't have side-effects so if I had alopecia and found out it were fungal related, I'd make a paste of caprylic acid capsule content using water and apply that, use organic coconut oil (coconuts are the source of anti-fungal caprylic acid), use oil of oregano, or use aloe vera or garlic before reaching for something like Monistat.

Try a 50:50 mix of coconut + Emu oil and massage your edges daily....... Emu oil is scientifically proven to wake up sleeping hair follicles and regrow hair... it will take time, but it will grow,.... please stop applying tension to the area...

Yes, I really try not to pull that area.

Personaly, I don't feel like using monistat on my head. I prefer natural products like oils.

I won't be on the board for some time (lately, I've spent too much time on the Internet for my hair and I almost became obsessed about my hair growth so I've decided to stand aloof for some time) but I will still care for my hair (I still want to be WL by the beginning of 2014, but I won't be so obsessed and it might be less time consuming) so I will continue to follow all those advices.

Hi girls! I would like to share something with you. Unfortunately, I'm suffering from an irreversible traction alopecia on my right edge. I have always been natural (never relaxed) but I used to bun very tight, brush my edges to vigorously or braid it to tight. I have started my healthy hair journey in january 2012 but, since october 2011 I've stopped all that and adopted healthy practices (I style my edges loosely, moisturize them on a daily basis, massage once a day) but...my right edge doesn't want to grow (I've post a picture, sorry for the quality). I have concluded this bald spot is irreversible. It was hard but I've learned to accept it. I try to hide it with a mini braids bang I always make in the front. It works, it is not very visible but I know all hairstyles would not suit me because of this alopecia. But I accept it now and I spontaneously explain what it is and how it appeared when people ask. Do you suffer from reversible, or not traction alopecia, bald spot? How do you hide it? Do you feel comfortable with that?

I think you're wrong! The follicles are still alive and maybe you haven't given anything a sufficient amount of time to work. Emu oil is great and can take anything from 2wks to 6mths to show results. Traction alopecia is irreversible when the area of your scalp is shiny or there is scar tissue.

I'm living proof that traction alopecia/alopecia can be reversible. It took time, effort, countless visits to the Derm and patience. At age 40, a Derm told me I would be bald in 6 months, at age 52, I have strap length hair! My alopecia rears its ugly head from time to time but I start fighting it vigorously asap. I used Nonie's essential oil recipe, got cortisone shots in my scalp, stopped using SLS shampoos, massaged the heck outta my scalp, applied cortisone to my scalp topically, got professional scalp scrubs (microderms, glycolic acid, oxygen treatments), did electric scalp treatments to my scalp, took tons of vitamins and herbs, and went natural. MeechUK, vickid, really wish it was that but I just don't see any improvement. But it's not a huge patch so I can hide it and enjoy my hair. But, for sure, I'll continue to follow those tips and hope I'll see some growth!!
