My encounter with a SHS

I had a special occasion this week and I went to a friend's hairdresser because I was in a pinch. When I got in, she was like, "You need a trim," and I agreed because I hadn't gotten one with my last touch up. When she was cutting, I looked at the length she was cutting off and she assured me that it was all "dead ends" and "I wouldn't miss it."

I had my hair pinned up for a special occasion, and when I washed it and detangled, I almost passed out. She cut off about 3 inches of length!!

The funny thing about it is, my hair does look much better. When I got over the initial shock, I realized that I kind of liked it.:look: But that's not the point; I didn't need 3 inches of length off, and she could have told me that's how short she was going.

Just venting....

She definitely should have asked & I hate when stylists say "dead ends" all hair is dead, WTF are you talking about lady! *that's what I want to say to them*

I hate "dead ends" too. Just say split or damaged. If I said I am trimming the "dead ends" off of my nails I would get crazy looks.

Glad you ended up liking it. I don't understand why stylists don't do a better job of communicating what they're doing. I mean, they can't understand why you're livid once you see it, but had they told you, you would have either A) been prepared to have shorter hair or B) said no, paid, and left.

Very simple IMO, but as we've observed some of these stylists have not taken Business Communication 101 & they are not the brightest crayons in the box...good luck w/ your new cut!

Been there, done that! The pic is the fist time I got my hair lightened and came out with a hair cut I DID NOT ask for. The stylist said that she gave me an inverted u . Whatever, I was called peppermint Patty for so long it was ridiculous. My friends that were there said what she really did was cut off all the inches of black hair that would not turn. I got use to it, but like you said that is not what I asked for.

That is exactly why when I ask for a trim or get offered one, I ask them to only cut off the bare minimum. If it's that serious, I'll gradually cut off those damaged ends. I had a horrible experience my freshman year and I didn't go to a hairstylist for like a year. smh

Thats why nobody but me is slowly chopping my "bad ends"

Lol, I feel you. That's what I do now as well. And even then it's only dusting which I do every three months.

Yeah I dont let other people cut my hair. If she was pinnign it up why did it have to be cut anyways? Nope Uhuhn Ill cut my own hair thank you! ANd it saves money also!

You know what? I may be paranoid, but I think that do that crap on purpose. I think there is some annual beauticians meeting where they get together and plot to cut off as much hair length as they possibly can from cute sisters........lol

Been there, done that like at least 20 times. But I only blame myself. Like after the umpteenth time it happened...i still chalk it up to maybe that person only had to chop off 2 inches that first time, and this time they'll only chop off 1/2 inches like I SPECIFICALLY asked. But time after time after time after time..... I seriously don't think that stylists understand the struggle that people go thru...(the people who want to achieve length). I hear the awww it'll grow back. yea it'll grow back, but it's gonna take 5 months...and by then, you'll be ready to chop again, so they don't see the cycle they are setting up for you. Well anyways i'm rambling. but i know that i will not let anyone cut/ trim my hair whatsoever. I'll let my sister do it if i'm desperate to get a perfect U shape...but other than that...it's just me. But i think that if anybody sit in a stylists chair and don't look that person in the eye and say i only want xxx inches cut and do you understand??? If you don't say that first and make sure they agree and know that u are serious, then you must be insane if you don't do at least that. It's the trust that's got me, time and time again, and i vow to never blindly trust again. ya heard!

You sound like you mean that! :lachen:

I'll probably get trims as needed or every other touch up (whichever one comes last).

Trust me I'll continue to watch closely during those trims.
I had to leave my former stylist of 4 years over her turning scissor happy on me. :ohwell: She trimmed my hair three times within 8 week. I told her not to that last time, but she insisted. I left upset and haven't been back since.
I'll never go to a stylist frequently or get comfortable with one ever again. Gotta watch them like a hawk.

Ahhh you look so cute in the pic! But that's beside the point, she had no business trying to cover up her color mishap. LOL though at "Peppermint Patty."

When I was 12 my mother called herself trimming my ends:ohwell: Well she JACKED my hair up!!! I was soooooo upset with her:mad: I had to get braids to grow my hair back. It took like maybe 2 or 3 months to get my length back....ever since then I NEVER let my mother touch my hair again.

Okay, okay, I know I've learned my lesson. But I am afraid of trimming my own ends. I don't want my ends to be crooked!
