My crazy steaming experience (kinda long)

Yes I wanted to DC my hair tonight with steam, No I did not want to be up this late doing it. I should have been in bed about 2 hours ago.

I was all excited about this idea I had to mix some things into the Shescentit Banana Brulee Condish(It is GREAT on its own but I felt like mixing up some stuff). I took out a generous scoop put it in my mixing bowl added 1/2 jar of banana baby food and 1 tablespoon of olive oil :lick:. Sounds great right? Well its smelled sooo good. I put the kids to bed and then proceeded with my wash routine. Before all of this while we were watching heroes I prepooed with my hair oil and some brahmi oil.

So I washed with Keratin Shampoo, then I added the yummy conditioner mix to my hair like a relaxer. Then I parted my hair in half because I wanted my middle section to be more exposed to the steam. I then went to my "hair room" and put the water in my steamer (which I haven't used since I moved here) and then turned it on. I know it takes a minute for the steam to start coming out so I left only to come back to a steamer spurting water out on the carpet!!!!! I was like WTH:perplexed??? I only had one towel on me so I used that to try to catch the water and turned the steamer off. I was so frustrated. I said this can't be and tried it again, only for the same thing to happen AGAIN!! Only silly Chameleon would try again which I did, and again the water was coming out of the bottom of the unit! Luckily, I have a PIBBS also so I used that to DC instead. I tested the pibbs when we moved here but I did not test the steamer:nono:.

After I was done DCing I thought to myself to try one more time. This time I was just trying because its in my nature to keep trying. I retightened everything again just to be sure. I put less water in it but you know what....it worked properly! I thought I was going to wake everyone up from how loud I screamed the scream of accomplishment. I did steam for 5 minutes just because by the way. I just had to tell someone about this right now:yep:.

And my hair was soooooooffffftttt afterwards. Followed up with the Shescentit leave in and sealed with my hair butter, put my hair in four plaits and put my satin scarf on.

I'm mad you have a "hair room" lol. Just kidding:grin: It's good you were able to fix the steamer!

you are really motivating me to start getting creative and whipping up some yummy hair concoctions!

but I am steamer challenged and have a question.... don't people put on a shower cap before getting under the steamer? if so, how is this imparting any benefits that a hooded dryer couldn't offer? I'm not understanding how the steam could possibly penetrate through a shower cap....

Where did you get your steamer from?
I am glad that you got it working again.

Thanks, I got it from ebay the SalonsRUS seller in February. I do have a warranty but I really did not want to deal with all of that.
Questions:

1. Where did you purchase your steamer from?
2. What Keratin Shampoo did you use?

SalonsRUS (ebay)
Global Keratin Moisturizing Keratin Shampoo

You should start, its like making a prescription for your hair!

I do not put a plastic cap on before steaming, to me that would defeat the purpose. I only use the cap when under the dryer. Out of the two the steamer is better (IMO) when trying to put moisture in the hair. I forgot to add I rinsed in the coolest water I could stand.

Chameleonchick--How are you putting the water in? I figured out when I read another person's post a while back that I was putting the water in wrong. I was pouring it down the reservior itself. Instead now I fill up the big white clear thingy (I know real technical) and flip it and the water goes into the reservoir. Mine no longer leaks and I don't have to fill it twice to sit under it 1 hour. This way it will steam for a little over an hour. Of course once it dings I have to reset the timer but after that it steams for an additional 10-15 minutes. I know the instructions are quite "special" and useless.

I was putting the water in the clear thing too. Then put the black cap/tube on it and then put it in the steamer. I did it the same way I have always done it. In fact when I first got it I called the company and they walked me through it. It was just so crazy, but I am glad it works again.

CC: You Can Not Fill That Reservoir (the Plastic thing with the Black Hose) Completely to the Top, or it will definitely overflow.

It's best to fill it up right to where the octogon part starts to Level Out Flat. (if that makes sense). That Should still give you 1 Hour's worth of Steam.:yep:
