My Changes

Since joining the forum, I feel I have learned some really good things. What I list here is only a few things I have learned or think important.

Please tell the five things you have learned that you definitely didn't know or believe in b4 LHCF. I am hoping to learn from this...

1. I can wash my hair every day(pre-poo first of course)- I was always told black people can't do this because it will dry the hair out.

2. I don't have to buy junk just because it says it will make my hair grow

3. Its ok to use products not made specifically for Afro hair . As a matter of fact those other products work very well.

4. I don't have to comb my hair every day - I was told you must do this to get rid of dead hair

5. Natural ingredients and horse products - WOW

6. Coconut and lime does work - for me.

By the way, I have updated my FOTKI with some not so good pics of my progress...not much, but I am proud of it. It's all wet hair so it looks weird.

Thanks to ALL for your help!!

I agree with all of the things you have learned since you've been here. The most important thing I have learned is that ANYONE can have long hair so long as they take care of it. I always believed (thanks to my stylist) that hair had a limit to the lengths it would grow, but since I've been on the board I've been shown that the only factor that limits our growth is lack of care. My hair has always been just a little past my shoulders, but I am determined to show my stylist that I can have mid-back length hair also. Finding this board has been a god send!

5 things,
1. my hair can be washed more than 1 time per week

2. I can use products that are considered for "white people's" hair

3. I do not have to place grease on my scalp nor do I need it to have shiny hair

4. I do not have to relax my hair bone straight

5.Women of color can grow their hair long, with or without a relaxer

I definitely agree with this one. For instance, I was using Garnier two years ago and Pantene Shampoo + Conditioner for Permed hair (when I had swimming twice a week three years ago and didn't have time to spend hours on my hair because I had bio lab). However, I stopped using these products. Needless to say, when I was using the "white" products, my hair thrived. But for some reason, I started listening to people who told me I only needed "black" hair products and stocked up on those, and my hair stopped thriving the way it had been. I cannot believe I was so stupid. I've found out now that the "white" products work much better on my hair anyway and it's much healthier. I am so glad I got over that stigma. Like someone mentioned in a thread weeks ago about black vs. white haircare magazines, I think it's the same for a lot of the products. I think the "white" products focus more on the health of the hair while SOME "black" products focus more on how the hair will be styled.
