Hi Ladies,

My aunt who is about 65 is going through chemotherapy and her beautiful hair fell out instantly. Is there anything she can use on her scalp to help? Anything at all? Or, is there something recommended for use immediately after she finishes her treatment? I hate to see her like this, I've always known her to have nice curly hair...so instead, I bought her a nice curly wig for Christmas; she loves it:rolleyes:

Although I don't know what might help aside from MegaTek, I will keep your aunt in my prayers and wish her good health. Good luck!

Oh TayTay- I am soooooo sorry about your dear Aunt- Chemo sucks- can I say that? My mom is going through it right now too- but she has not lost her hair thankfully.

I think it would be best to use something simple and proven like Castor Oil on her scalp.

You sound like such a sweet niece.

Several years ago when my step-grandma was going through chemo and lost all of her hair, she would put aloe gel (straight from the plant) on her scalp to soothe the skin.

I dont think there is anything that can be done to make the hair grow back DURING chemo, but keeping the scalp in good condition during might be good for growing afterward.

Best wishes to your Aunty.

I don't have any advise but I do wish ur all aunt all the best and a speedy recovery. Im sorry she (and any woman) has to go through this.

sorry to hear about your aunt......hope she gets well soon....

on the positive it will be a good start for her i think....in terms of hair care.....

i agree witht the previous posts....a clean scalp will help the hair grow.....maybe not as fast as she might want but it does help.....

i'm no expert on chemo/cancer but maybe it would be good if she tried natural stuff....like the aloe vera, castor oil etc....instead of commercial stuff which contains so many chemicals......

either way i wish her all the best....and hope the journey to growing her hair back may be pleasant.:yep:

Sorry to hear this and I'll keep your aunt in my thoughts , but I don't know how true this is but some people I noticed in every case I witnessed some people who go through chemo some times their grows back fast in no time I know my moms girlfriend went through chemo and in no time her hair was back in no time plus where she'd onced had grey hair strangely it all grew back in black. So did my grandfathers hair after his chemo. And his hair was almost white before the chemo. I don't know I could be wrong.

Oh there's a guy or lady on another forum that also went through chemo and he said he took a group of vitamins that grew his hair back in no time I think it's called the Bargello's regime maybe some of our other ladies who been here longer can chime in about what I'm talking about. But I think it's on long hair comminuty forum just goggle it.

Google Robin Roberts from ABC. She's been pretty open with her journey of going through chemo and the resulting hair loss.

She lost it for a while, but her hair is prettier than ever now.

I'm sorry to hear about your aunt. My hair fell out when I went thru chemo years ago. We just washed the scalp like normal but that was years ago. I agree that keeping it simple and chemical free is the best thing for the scalp. A good diet will help too. It will grow back. Blessings to your aunt.

There's not much you can do while take chemo that can prevent hair loss but as soon as she completes the chemo, her hair will start growing back immediately. A relative of mine was treated with a chemotherapy drug that cause her to lose her hair. She decided to cut it down and wear a short natural. She accepted her new hairdo....bought some cute hats and big earrings to go with her new stylish look. As soon as she finished this particular drug her hair began to grow back.

Sorry to hear that OP! I wish your Aunt a blessed and speedy recovery. You are such a sweet niece!

I'm sorry to hear about your Aunt's health. I don't have any recommendations to offer for her hair though.

First you can get her started on some alpha lopic acid pills at 300 mcg's. that's what I always suggest to people who come into where I work(Vitamin shoppe) who are going through cemo. ALA will help get her cells back to a healthy point and boost her immune system. It is also great for the skin since skin tends to suffer do to cemo.
For her hair she should use emu oil and essentail oils like peppermint rosemary, basil and or thyme to help stimulate her scalp. Of course if you do decide to do these essentail oils do it with a carrier oil like jojoba, grapseed, or avacodo. she should message her scalp 2x's a day for 5 min. Hope that helps. If you have any other q's just pm.
