When I started lurking on LHCF, I only decided to lurk to see why I'd get to bsl and had to do a big chop. And then I discovered it was my phobia of scissors so I've been getting fairly frequent trims which has so far eliminated the dead ends problem..that and protective styling.

I have relatively healthy hair, as I said APL, and new growth is sprouting like weeds. I never had a problem with the health of my hair besides the dead ends, my little short one inch peice that comes to the middle of my neck.

I don't see a lot of breakage. If I do it's like one or two strands.

so here's the question. I've been evaluating the regimine that my mom used on my hair for 27 years (thanks mommy for the long hair), and the new things I've started to incorporate, and they are all very moisture intensive, but I wouldn't say that any of them are a protiene.

Should I get a deep conditoner that has protien to keep the balance, or just say...if it ain't broke don't fix it.

If I do end up overmoisturisng my hair, will I have enough time to counter act it if I get a protien?

Is it very hard to overmoisturise? Should I stick with what I'm doing and not incorporate the protine.

How dangerous would it be to try the mild motions silk protine?
 
I really can't answer your question but i have something to add about protien. I recently found out that i was over using protien and my hair always felt rough. Sine having my plaits and than taking them out my hair is nice and soft. I use to have to use Scurl to get this amount of softness when i touched my hair. I think i was over using protien. I found all this out because i started just DCing a few times a week with a moist deep conditioner. And using protien once every 2 weeks.
 
Overmoisture is very easy to fix, in my mind - your hair is constantly loosing moisture, so to recover from overmoisture, just stop adding extra moisture for a while (as little as 2 days, as long as a week) and your hair will balance itself out.

If you are relaxed, I think that a little protein is always a good thing - maybe find one of the 'lighter' protein products and see what your hair thinks. I find that over proteining is harder to come back from than overmoisture.

I think that Silk Protein (esp. Silk Amino Acids) are a type of protein that every head would love, and that it's worth a try......

Thanks so much Just Kiya!!! I'm going to get that motions silk protiene. Like you said, just try it once/twice and see if my hair likes it. I'll limit the treatment to like once a month for now.

Thanks for the advice girlie, I'm relaxed, so even though my hair isn't weak, it would probably benefit from a protiene!

What conditioner are you using now? I noticed a lot of the moisturizing ones have proteins in them already.

I agree- if your hair is okay as it is now don't change your regimen unless you really need to. Not every thing works for every hair type. I found that out the hard way. I baggied once for 2 weeks and lost a lot of hair because my hair is quite fine and could not handle all the moisture that this caused.
 
I think protien depends on your hair. I agree that silk protien is good for all hair but my hair responds better to stronger ones 2x a week works wonders on my hair
 
I think protein should be used "as needed" anyway. For me, even then it is mild when I do use it - no hardening and dryness.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
