Ms. Jessie's Products--Your Opinion

I use it, but I didn't vote because I am still undecided. I've been using it off and on since the summer. I like it because I like the way it elongates my curls and the fact that it helps fight frizz is a big plus for me. I don't like it when I let my hair air dry. I don't know if I use too much, although they say use a lot, but when I let my hair dry I feel like I have nothing but gunk in my hair. (I have a lot of hair, and my hair is very thick) and it stills feel this way. But again, I love using it if I use the diffuser.

I'm not really sure if anyone has mentioned this i am natural and the Curly meringuewas great when I used it for twist sets. (twist all to the back and down the sides and take out when dry) It does make it feel hard but it makes the set last very long time. I tried the shingling methods but it was too much gunk for me. But the twist sets this stuff works great. The stuff my hairdresser ususally uses causes my hair to be frizzy after a while, but when I give him this to use no frizz at all.

I love Ms. Jessie's products. I have been using them off and on for almost a year (in between using other products, due to my PJ tendencies). During that time, I've only had to reorder the Curly Pudding once, because the products last a long time. I still have about 3 ounces of the first Buttercreme, and the same Curly Meringue is about half full. Yes, the Pudding can be drying, so my method to counteract that is: apply BC to wet hair in sections, then apply CP in small sections. Smooth with a fine tooth comb and smooth again with fingers. Let dry. Yes, it does dry hard and crisp, so once it's all dry, I scrunch the hair all over, and gently separate strands to break up the crunchiness. The result is soft, shiny, frizz-free waves and curls that last for days if a sleep bonnet is used for sleeping. No other product is needed. I almost forgot -- I use the Curly Meringue to boost the curl factor in my crown area, which is not curly at all, but wavy. So for me, it's CP on the sides and back, CM on the top. I've also discovered that the longer my hair gets, the longer my results from Ms. Jessie's last.

I've tried the Fantasia gel and I don't get favorable results from it for shingling. I reserve it for slick looks.

By the way, I have thick, medium type 3 hair.

I am also a fan of Ms. Jessie's products. I love the CP and Meringue for my wash and goes and have never had a problem with it drying my hair out. No matter what product brand I use, I always put on my Giovanni direct leave in on before hand so my hair stays soft and conditioned. I recently got some buttercreme from another poster and I have to say that I love this as well. My hair feels very moisturized yet it is not greasy. They are definitely a keeper for my hair.

I just used the Meringue... My hair is relaxed and i used it to do a twist out.... my hair IS curly... but i am now wearing a bandana because it feels hard and my hair feels dry... i'm washing my hair after i work out today!

I've been using the curly pudding for the past couple of weeks and I really like the results.

I "shingle" the hair--(I don't use as much product as the directions recommend), and sit under my bonnet dryer for @ 15-20 minutes and then air dry.

CP does leave the hair hard--but I can wear the style for a few days. With the curling custard--I can only get 2nd day from time to time.

So I really like the cp for its long lasting hold.

My manager who has a silkener can go two weeks without washing her hair and it stays full without flattening or anything. I'm guessing this stuff, in the long run, won't work out well for my natural hair.

I did use the Buttercreme for two strand twists last night and was happy with those results.

I had the same problem when my hair was shorter, but I don't anymore, which leads me to believe that the longer your hair gets, the easier it will be to get longer lasting results.

update:

I just wanted to add that I don't use a scarf or satin bonnet--I go to sleep and hope for the best. Sleeping with a scarf or bonnet only produces disasterous results!

Lately I've been using the products for scrunching. My hair no longer likes 'shingling.'

I didn't have the best results with Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding. My hair looked great wet, but once it dried, it was not cute AT ALL! I found that Curly Pudding worked best on my hair if I used it along with Kinky-Curly Curling Custard. http://www.kinky-curly.com/id1.html
The Curling Custard keeps my hair moist and defines the curls and the Curly Pudding sets them. HTH!

I guess from the responses we can see it works for some and not others.

I personally got good results the first day but the second day it was a mess.

For my hair the cost just is not worth it. I get much better results from Fantasia IC Gel w/Sparklites. This stuff is wonderful!!!!!!!!!!! and you can not beat the price.

I also did not like the strong grape smell of the curly pudding as well. Save yourself money and try the Fantasia IC gel before spending money on the curly pudding. I am sure you will be pleased with the results.

I like the Curly Pudding but if you use it by itself and can make the hair very hard. I use Carol's Daughter Healthy Hair Butter and then I put the Curly pudding in my hair.

I bought the curly pudding when I was natural and it never did anything for my natural hair. Like many other women on the board, I received better results from using guess what? You guessed it, IC fantasia gel with sparkellites. Now that I'm relaxed, I use the curly pudding on a small section of my hair that is slightly underprocessed so it's not frizzy when I wear my hair airdried and curly. It works great for this purpose leaving me with well-defined curls. My only gripe is that it is a little too heavy for my taste.

If I would have to redo my hair every other day. I probably will keep my weave.

I hear you there. It's not that we are cheap we just watch our walets. I saw the price and I was like I've been using the "Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding Substitute" along with My Fantasia IC Gel w/ Sparkletts and my hair is loving it. :yaya:

When I got my big chop, my stylist shingled my hair with Curly Pudding. It does preserve the "wet look." I just didn't like the smell. It smells like grape bubblelicious X 10.

I'm thinking maybe we have the same hair textures... do you use the shingling method? I have natural curly hair that is more defined at the top and in the front and becomes more thick and less defined as you get closer to my nape, so I'm wondering if it will do anything for me.

And $58 is a lot to pay for a damn experiment that might not work. ::shrug::

Curly buttercream is great--I use the baby one since the peppermint oil in the original one can get on my nerves.

I use the buttercreme mainly for my hairline. The curly pudding I like but it is toooo expensive. I tried to shingle but it didn't work for me, so I just comb it through my hair. I have now tried doing my two-strand twist outs with Lottabody setting lotion and I had pretty good results. I will be going to Sally's BSS to get the Fantasia IC w/Sparklites. PJ to the max!!!!

I have a relaxer and I used the Curly Meringue for a twist and comb out. My stylist was impressed because it came out much fuller than just using mousse.

Essentially curly pudding and Fantasia IC Gel both preserve the wet look while reducing the effects of shrinkage. So whatever your hair looks like wet - it will look a lot like that once dry (maybe a tad shorter but for the most part).

So if your hair has little curl pattern - it will not MAKE a curl. If your curl has more wave than curl - it will not MAKE a curl. If your hair is relatively straight out of the shower - it will not MAKE a curl. Basically - it doesn't make curls.

The Curly Meringue is more for hair that is not already super curly. You may want to try using that - or try using the Fantasia IC gel with a twist out and see what happens.

I use Curly Pudding for a wash and go look on relaxed hair. It makes my hair more wavy than curly. Do you think I would have better luck with curly meringue?

I was looking at the ingredients of the curly pudding and the buttercream on curlmart.com, and I was wondering why the price is so high. I mean the ingredients themselves aren't particularly expensive and hard to find.

I'm relaxed and I use the Meringue....it gives definition and holding power for me....when I use a diffuser it really gives my hair a boost...its expensive but I like it.......

Is there a short shelf life????

By the way i really like the Buttercream for when my roots start to grow in. plus i think that it help to stimulate growth, because it has alot of peppermint in it.

I tried both when i was natural. the curly pudding didn't do anything for my hair. the buttercreame made my hair moisturized but i think i like carol's daughter healthy hair butter better. now that i am texlax i used the curly pudding and it did bring out the curls more but the grape smell is so strong and it left purple flakes in my hair. i think garnier soft curl cream works a lot better to define my curls.
