Mizani Relaxer

I plan on switching to Mizani next month. Did a poll asking the ladies here for suggestion, cause I was switching from no-lye to lye, alot of the ladies rave about the Affirm but I couldn't find it at the supply stores and when I called around to local salons they didn't use it. So, I end up trying Motions(mild). Did nothing for me, just made it possible for the comb to get through it. So, I decided to look into the Mizani at the salons, because in the supply store they act like I was speaking a foreign language when I asked about Mizani, at least they knew what I was talking about when I asked about Affirm. But, anyway found a salon that specializes in hair care and uses Mizani. Will be going to them to let them relax w/ Mizani. I'm frustrated w/ all the back and forth looking for the perfect relaxer. Do it really exist? I just hope my appt goes fine and I'm will be sold with it. If not, I might just go back natural /images/graemlins/smirk.gif don't know but I hope all the effort we all put into our hair is worth it. It's depressing sometimes.
Had to vent, this relaxer ordeal is giving me the blues /images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I like Mizani so far, but I have only used once. It did make my hair very soft and silky wiht lots of body. I plan on using it again for my next touch up.

I was thinking about switching from Design Essentials To Mizani b/c I heard so many good things aboutit. Anf lo and behold, when i went in for my relaxer, my Stylist asked if I wanted to tr it. I was like, HEEEEEELL yeah! And to make a long story short, THIS IS THE BEST RELAXER I'VE EVER HAD!!!! /images/graemlins/whyme.gif my hair came out smooth and sleek shiny and Thanks to all your wonderful advice, my hair is an inch longer!!! i can actually see the difference, not just in the length, but in the volume, it looks and feels thicker!!! i can't wait till my next-touch up!

I want to thank you all for all your great advice!

By the way, my b/f has come to the conclusion that i spend 100 bucks on products a month,( but even he has noticed a change in my hair!) I think it's more like 30-50. Am I a PJ?? /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I'm going to celebrate !!

Congrats Camille /images/graemlins/clap.gif I LOVE to hear these success stories. /images/graemlins/smile.gif Here's to more hair growth /images/graemlins/cheers.gif

Hi Camille,
Congratulations! Glad you like the Mizani. I tried it too and I like it also. /images/graemlins/smile.gif /images/graemlins/party2.gif

oh great!! just when i was all confused on what to do and was just settling on the fact that maybe i should try affirm since i cant find the small tub now you guys bring up this mizani thread. grrrrrreeeeeaaaaat!! and again i wont be able to find a reasonably priced place that sells it and now i will have to be looking on the back of mizani relaxer tubs to make sure its not no lye. /images/graemlins/frown.gif God bless you all.

Congratulations on the Mizani experience. Great stuff isn't it?

Oh yeah...on the PJ thing...If you have to ask then I think you know the answer to the question. LOL

Beana, have u used Affirm? If so, which worked best for u, Affirm or Mizani. I want to switch from Motions oil but I don't know what to try next.

I used Mizani's Lye relaxer for the first time a few days ago, so far I love it! I was planning on using Affirm's lye relaxer, but my stylist said with my hair texture the Mizani grows out better, it left my hair very thick, shiny and straight, the roots even dried soft, moisturized and straight with a slight wave, the rest of my hair dried bushy and dry, so I will be sticking with Mizani. I highly recommend it.

ya, in my 11th week post relaxer, I was wearing my draw string ponytail and my texture(new growth) still blended in with the ponytail.. on top of that I normally used to relax my hair every 6 weeks.... this is the first time I waited 11 weeks to do a touch up with my hair out....

i haven't used the affirm yet. I plan on doing so my next touch up. I blowdried my hair today and i'm really making progress length wise, in addition to that i think i can go for the 8-10 weeks i'm shooting for! My roots were very straight after the blow out.. okay back on topic....
The mizani was too strong on my hair.. it burned a lot and i had to take it out in 15mins and my hair was bone straight with the reg strength.
I would NOT suggest motions oil relaxer at all...motions lye mild, yes, but motions oil anything is bad news. (at least for me)HTH

Beana I'm sooo confused. I keep getting different reviews. I want to get a good relaxer but I don't want it bone straight and I don't want it underprocessed like how motions relaxers leave me

. I'm thinking of the mizani. My friend uses it religiously in her hair, even though it's an entirely different texture (maybe 3a,3b,or 3c) it makes her hair look really good. Whatever the case, I need to make a decision and I need to make one soon. I'm starting to prepare (oil) my scalp for my touchup (May 17th) and I need to place an order for my relaxer. Do you think I should try Mizani mild? I'm a 4a/4b but my strands are very thin.

Sweetnic, I know this whole thing can be confusing! I have weird hair anyway..But one thing i can advise you for sure is to STAY AWAY FROM MOTIONS OIL RELAXERS
Most 4's do not respond well to this. There are women who are still trying to fight underprocessed hair from 6 months ago b/c of this stuff.
Mizani was strong on my hair, but maybe you wont find it to be. Maybe my stylist applied it to my scalp like an idiot, hence all the burning and consequent hairloss. I would not put it past her. I have very fine strands as well, and I have opted to use Affirm mild lye next time. I will be retouching sometime next week and i'll be sure to post my review.
Give the Mizani a try if you're itching to do it. Many 4 type ladies have success with Revlon Realistic, and Affirm relaxers too. If you want to try the Affirm, maybe i could send you some (IF my experience is good) HTH

Beana,
Ok that sounds like a plan. I don't know where to purchase Affirm or Mizani so if u have good results I'd like u to send me some. If you know where I can get the Mizani ( I was hoping Ricky's sold it) or the Revlon Realistic that would be good too. I don't mind taking a drive to NY. As for staying away from Motions, you don't have to tell me twice. I won't touch motions with a ten-foot pole. It left me underprocessed and I KEPT using it thinking that maybe I was doing something wrong. Luckily I read the testimonies on this board and saw that I wasn't really going crazy.

I hope your touchup turns out well. Are you doing it yourself this time or are u going to trust your mane to a new stylist? I suggest that you start basing your scalp with a light oil from now on. Grapeseed oil, rosemary oil, and wildgrowth oil all worked for me. I don't usually experience any burns when I start basing a few days or even a week b4 the touch-up.

Good luck

Hey SweetNic,

I think it all depends on the person. I based my hairline, neckline and ears because that's where I always get burned but I didn't base my scalp(I never do) And I left the Mizani Regular on 18 minutes and I didn't burn at all. I mean nothing. It was very gentle for me.

I was really hoping the Mizani would work for me because I had purchased a big ol' 4lb. tub. And it was excellent. It did everything I was looking for.

Mizani is hard to find. I had to order mine and it wasn't all that cheap.

Are you in CT or Jersey? I'm in CT. If you're in CT, I'd be more than happy to give you a couple scoops of my Mizani so you can try it out if you'd like.

Thank Crystal, that's so sweet. I was running around like a chicken without its head looking for a Mizani's relaxer today. I coudn't find it anywhere. The one place that I found it in only had the no-lye formula.

I live in Fairfield,CT it's close to Bridgeport and about 20 minutes from New Haven.I would appreciate a few scoops if you're using the mild formula. If not I'd gladly get the directions to the place that you ordered it from.

thanx

Hey, I'm in Manchester out side of Hartford.. a little haul from you but I could meet you around Middletown to make the drop off because that's where I work. But anyhoo I used regular not mild, I have 4a and it worked just wonderfully for me. I can't speak highly enough about it.

If you don't want to try Regular you can order it from http://www.vipsalononline.com/

It will cost $41.64 including shipping and it's a big ol tub. If you order it tomorrow you'll have it by Monday... they're fast... and they give you this free brush too.. I have three that I've never used.

I went out on faith that it would work for me, buying that big ol tub... But it worked well....

Let me know what you want to do about testing my Mizani.

hmmm, I'm wondering if regular will be too harsh for me. the first mild that I tried was with Motions oil and it came out underprocessed - every strength of Motions leaves my hair underprocessed. I don't know if I should give the regular a try and here is why:I always thought that being a 4a/4b meant that u use SUPER -- I was wrong
naughty.gif
. I know that I'm not a super but I'm not sure if I'm just a regular. Also, the individual hairs on my head are very thin - thread thin. I'm thinking the mild will be the best bet to go. Another reason is because my hair doesn't always have a definite curl pattern - no S's, no big curls, no little curls, just slight (small)curves
confused.gif
but some of my hair has definite (medium)curl patterns. It's sometimes hard to distinguish the new growth from the relaxed hair ( especially the under processed relaxed hair). I think the best bet is for me to stick with the mild. What do you think?

I think you should use Mild if you're most comfortable with that. I have 4A and the Regular was fine with me. My hair is thin no where near thick. I always use regular and it's okay with my hair.

But If all you've ever used is Mild and that's what you're most comfortable with I'd say stick with Mild. I'd say order the Mizani in Mild. It's scary paying that kind of money for something you've never tried and I can't say for sure that you'll love it like I do, but if you buy it and it doesn't work, you can swap or sell it.

So I say go ahead and just get the mild... how ever I don't think trying the regular will hurt, I'm not convinced there's a significant difference between mild and regular that causes too much concern.

you kmow what? I'll give it a try. When will u be heading towards Middletown? I'm heading up towards Hamden later on today to braid my lil sister's hair. If you happen to be heading in the same direction we can meet up. Otherwise it's no rush. Iwon't be relaxing until May 17th . thanx again

This morning when I woke up, something told me to put that relaxer in my car in case you wanted to try it. But of course I didn't.

I work in Middletown everyday. M-F. One day next week will be fine. Around 6:30 or 7pm I can meet you, There's a McDonalds in Cromwell off exit 21 on 1-91 and I can meet your there to make the switch(like it's some kind of a drug deal or something...LOL) Just let me know which day is best for you.. And just bring a container, you could propbably get some tupperware or something from the dollar store.

I'll PM you my work phone number.

thanx Crystal. I'll give u call. I have to go th yahoo maps so I don't get lost
laugh.gif
but most likely I willl b/c yahoo maps have gotten me lost a couple of times b4.

I've been using Mizani relaxer for the last two touch-ups, and I have to say, I'm very impressed with their formula. My hair is soooooo shiny and bouncy. You guys have to see my ponytail, it bounces when I walk and shakes...:)

Mizani doesn't relax my hair STRAIGHT, it leaves enough texture in my hair for styling and my hair appears to remain "straighter" longer. Does that make sense lol.

Amilion I know exactly what you mean. 3 days after using Motions relaxers (any formula) my hair would look texturized(3c) and by the next 2 or 3 washes it would look like i didn't do anything to my hair at all!! Needelesstosay I'm ready for the next relaxer - bring it on! I'm glad that there are so many good reviews about Mizani I just hope it doesn't turns in to a Motions de ja vous.

Ok, you all probably want this post to be done already but I have one more question
smile.gif
. . . what neutralizing shampoo do I need? Do I have to order one on line or can I just buy any ol' neutralizin' shampoo?

p.s THANK YOU Crystal for meeting me to deal me a share of that good ol' Mizani relaxer
grin.gif
... Seriously, I really appreciate it. You ladies are the best
smile.gif

Hi SweetNic JA,

You can use any neutralizing shampoo. They all do the same thing. Just be sure it says Neutralizing Shampoo.
smile.gif

It seemed like the price for affirm cost a little bit more.. Im kind of on a budget but I think I'll look into Mizani
