I have the XP. I like the fact that it's bigger, therefore I can properly cover each section of hair. I have a lot of hair and need it. I don't have MP so I can't compare.

I turned my XP on and added water. I love it! It's like a clothes iron. I can't wait to use it. In the future to preserve the iron I will use distilled water.

GREAT THREAD!!!.. this helps me make the decision on which one i'm going to get. If what the customer service rep says is true, and ladies who say they have course thick hair can still work the MP then I should be okay with just the MP. Once my hair gets too long for the MP, i'll think about the XP untill then.. MP i'm coming :sekret:

im going to use the XP this weekend. Im not sure if I want to use the detangling plate or switch it to the flat plate.

cool thread. i ordered the XP and it should be here on monday or tuesday. hopefully i'll like it. i currently have a 1 inch FHI and its just not working for me.

Which one is best to have.
I bought an XP which works fine, but I am returning it for a better deal.
What is the difference between the two. I know that:

XP= Course hair and plates are larger
MP= Thin hair and plates are smaller

Other than that is there any other difference in features? What features makes one for course hair and the other for thin hair?
Which one of the two is the newer model?

Please vote for which one you OWN.

I have the MP now, but I prefer the XP. I thought the smaller one would be easier to handle with my hands, but the XP made more sense for my hair.

After the initial shock of the size of the XP I actually really like it and see why it's so large. When my hair get's as long as yours it will come in quite handy. I'm going to get the MP and use that until my hair reaches full waist length.

I have been eyeing the Maxi Glide and I didn't know the difference between the new models. Thanks for starting this thread OP.

I just ordered the MP from HSN last week. It's now out for delivery today, wasn't expecting it until Thursday, so you know I'm ready to go home right , lol. This site is stirring the inner PJ in me, lol :yep:.

My sister has the XP, she absolutely loves and raves about it. She is 100% natural. To me it was bulky and a little heavy, which is why I've never purchased the Maxiglide before, but now that they have the smaller one, I decided to give it a try. Hopefully I can get the same great results I've been seeing :yep:.

A question for people who are familiar with both the XP and MP: are the detangling pins further apart on the XP or are the plates themselves really just wider? I bought an MP and used it over Christmas, and while it was fantastic for getting my hair straight, I couldn't help but worry it was pulling my hair out. Slightly wider-set pins would be a god-send. Anyone know?

I own the MP... but the reason why the XP is for coarser hair is because more heat passes over each strand because the plates are bigger. Its like a 4 blade razor versus a single blade razor. The reason why you get a closer shave with a 4 blade razor is that one pass is essentially the same as 4 passes with a single blade.

I have the MP and I'm starting to regret it now. I think when I finally get another flat iron I'm going to put this up some place.

I had the original Maxiglide MP and it worked for four years and finally broke. I loved that thing. So I went to folica.com and ordered the newer version the Maxiglide XP and it arrived and looked so sleek and great. I didn't notice any difference in size, but I didn't compare the two.

My problem is this: The Maxiglide XP rips my hair whenever I try to BEND the iron and I mean I lost six broken strands and I was carefully. Again I have used the original Maxiglide for about 4 years and never had a problem with BREAKING HAIR OFF on the edges like with the newer Maxiglide. I'm so disappointed! I am a texlaxed 4a/b and I'm on my 3rd month stretching. usually my regular Maxiglide can see me through and I never lose hair on the edges of the iron. The edges literally snag my hair and then rip!!!

This was on already blowdried straight hair. Has anyone else noticed this problem? I have it in the box ready to be shipped back to Folica on an exchange for the older Maxiglide.

I'm going to return the XP and just order the MP even if I have to get it from a different spot. I didn't see the MP being sold on Folica.com so it doesn't appear that I can just do an exchange.

NONE of the Bed Bath and Beyonds near me had the 2 inch Maxiglide (old or new).

I can't believe the way this XP pulls and breaks my hair when I try to make a curl! I'm so disappointed. I loved my old Maxiglide and had no issues with it. I got my 4a/b hair straight on setting 5 with the old Maxiglide.

I prefer the mp. The xp was just too bulky for me to use and I was able to get closer to my roots for a silky finish with the mp.

I got the MP and I love it to pieces. When I was visiting Zambia, it got an electric shock:look: and died, but my Dad did something and got it running again...Thank you Daddy:yep: I think that even when my hair gets longer, this will still work, its just easier to handle compared to the XP.

I returned my Maxiglide XP to Folica.com with no problem, it's going to take 30 days for a refund. In the meantime I went ahead and purchased the Maxiglide MP from HSN using the coupon on page 1 of this thread, thanks for saving me $20! I hope the Maxiglide MP doesn't rip out my hair at the edges where the plastic touches the plate, I never have to use the pins, because the BACK of the flat iron is what does the separating and straightening for me (using the old Maxiglide iron).

I still can't believe I was the only one this happened too with the breaking hairs on the corners of that Maxiglide XP (the bigger iron)? No one else experienced any problems with the XP pulling your hair from your head without even using the plate with the pins? Wow. I was VERY gentle and went slowly.

I think the XP being bigger will trick ppl into thinking they can do larger sections of hair at a time, which may lead to less straight results. Regardless of hair type smaller hair sections are going to lead to a better press. I dont think because you have coarse or thick hair you need a bigger iron, probably the exact opposite is what you need...a smaller iron and therefore you press smaller sections at a time and get straighter more silky results . Is my reasoning off?

Yeah it did probably trick most people into thinking that but I think one of the other reasons why people bought it over the XP is because of the way they marketed it. They constantly said that the XP was for coarser hair and that the MP was for 3c or straighter - almost as if the MP only went up to a certain degree and you had to get an XP if you wanted more heat.

I bought the XP and only used it 2 times before feeling as though this was better suited for natural hair (JMO). I want to sell mine but seeing as though I'm not good at going to the post office I'll have to find someone locally with natural hair to buy it. I'd rather it do good for their hair instead of sitting in mt closet collecting dust. Once I do, it's on to the Sedu or H20Pro!:yep:
