Which one is best to have.
I bought an XP which works fine, but I am returning it for a better deal.
What is the difference between the two. I know that:

XP= Course hair and plates are larger
MP= Thin hair and plates are smaller

Other than that is there any other difference in features? What features makes one for course hair and the other for thin hair?
Which one of the two is the newer model?

Please vote for which one you OWN.
 
Well I own the MP and I have thick coarse hair so.....:look:

I can't really do a comparison since I've never tried/owned the XP but from videos I saw it just seemed SO massive. I'm really happy with the MP Its big but its manageable I'm still able to get my signature loose curls. For me its all about small sections and taking my time as I glide it down the shaft of my hair to minimize breakage.

Its eliminated the need for a hot comb for me it catches my 4b edges and leaves them smooth, it uses steam so I know moisture is being replenished, my roots are well straightened and its the smoothest my hair has ever felt....couldn't be happier:grin:
 
I think the mp is a newer model and the xp is heavier and bulkier...i ordered the mp last week

I really don't know???? I know they are supposed to be the same and the only difference is in size but the MP just worked better IMO. I used the MP throughout my transition and purchased the XP towards the end. I used the XP a few times and went back to using the MP.

Does anyone else own both the XP and MP?
 
I started in 2005 with the MP and used that up till last Xmas. Now I use the XP, it's a bit smaller, but I prefer the MP, I just felt it worked a bit better. My XP is great, mind you, but I prefer the MP, sadly I gave it to my aunt :(

I think there's another very recent thread about the two, that you may want to look at for more responses OP.
 
I think the XP being bigger will trick ppl into thinking they can do larger sections of hair at a time, which may lead to less straight results. Regardless of hair type smaller hair sections are going to lead to a better press. I dont think because you have coarse or thick hair you need a bigger iron, probably the exact opposite is what you need...a smaller iron and therefore you press smaller sections at a time and get straighter more silky results . Is my reasoning off?
 
I flatironed youngest DD on Saturday afternoon and it didn't start to revert within a few hours, which is unusual. I used the pink bottle ic Fantasia heat serum. She wore it down for church and didn't leave service with a puff! I applied coconut oil and put her in 3 cornrows for bed last night, and today her hair looks even straighter. It doesn't look heat damaged or anything like that, and I used it on a low setting, so I'm not worried about complete reversion after a wash. I will be keeping it braided for the remainder of this week and wash her on Saturday morning.

I think the MP is a keeper. I like the 1 1/2" plates. They are big enough for longer hair, but not so wide that it can't be used on shorter hair.

That makes perfect sense. They really are both the same, the only difference is in size.

I don't have both but I researched this question and that was the conclusion.

Also they are both newer models.
 
IMO the different sizes are for different lengths of hair. The larger XP is for longer hair and the smaller MP for shorter hair. Its my understanding that they both work the exact same otherwise. I have recently ordered the XP and look forward to the same great results others have had. I have APL 3a/3b type hair.

No your reasoning is sound. Which throws a monkey wrench into my decision making. Well the XP is for coarse, thick hair. What would it do differently that the MP would not do for the same type of hair?

This was my understanding as well. And considering that I'm growing my hair VERY long I would think XP would be more appropriate. I think I will just order the XP and if it's too uncomfortable to use I will send it back for an exchange. :yep:
 
Off topic but does the steam cause any extra frizz or quicker reversion for anyone?

Back on topic I ordered the mp because I have shorter lengths from layers so I don't think the xp would be able to catch that. Also it's cheaper xD. Those extra 10 bucks I can buy a good heat protectant or save up towards a decent hair dryer.
 
I have both, the older XP model (which i purchased a few years ago and but never really used...it was just so bulky and I didn't have the patience to get through this head of hair at the time I bought it) and the newer MP model. Although the MP is 1/2 inch smaller, it makes a HUGE difference in size when you hold them side by side. I haven't tried it out yet, but I know it will be easier for me to handle vs, the 2in XP plates. I always perfered the smaller flat irons anyway when I wore my hair straight regularly during my relaxed days. Outside of the size difference, I don't think anything else varies from the two models.
 
My other concern is being able to straighten the roots with XP. XP users are you able to get to the roots?

I agree, longer lengths can probably work the XP better than shorter hair lengths.
 
I got the MP and I have fine hair. I still had a bit of a hard time catching the edges. im ok with that. I'm careful I used the 2 - 3 setting with chi silk infusion and Iron guard.
 
I have coarse hair about 4a/b. I bought the MP and I am so glad I did. I just got my Maxiglide last week and I tested it out last night. I am definitely happy with the results that I see so far, although I was just testing it out and didn't really take my time. Plus it's raining here and I have my hair in a pony. I'm sticking with the MP, I like it so far.

The only thing is that I am still on the search for a good heat protectant, because anything that I use seems to make my hair feel dry and it's even worse with other flat irons. Any suggestions ladies?

ETA: I just have to add that my hair is relaxed.

Silk elements heat protectant. It works for me and I am relaxed as well.
 
i just received my Maxi MP yesterday:grin: & tested it out on the sides of my hair. at 1st i had the heat setting on 5 for my daughter's (4a) hair & it worked nicely on her (sleek/smooth/soft) results.

i then tested it on my (4b) hair & my hair frizzed out like the dickens even before i pressed the steam button!
i was sooo :wallbash: but then i remembered BlackMasterPiece said she had to turn up the heat to about 8-10? before she got the smooth sleek results.

once i turned the heat up to 9, i got the results i was looking for...my hair was very soft, fluffy (lol) & VERY straight. since i got the package deal from hsn.com i also received the miniglide as well which did catch my edges but not good enuf 4 me (i prefer a reg pressing comb 4 my edges

fyi: the maxiglide mp is the biggest flat iron i've ever used & if the xp is any bigger than that then i'm not sure i would want it...but then again i dont have very long thick hair:rolleyes:

I can't wait to try it out, but I'm not good at using a flat iron. I'll probably have someone else do it for me the first time.
 
i ordered the xp. I haven't recieved it yet but I'm starting to get concerned that it may be too big for my 3b/3c almost APL hair :wallbash:
 
i received my xp yesterday and I just finished using it tonight!! I love the maxiglide i got salon quality results and my hair feels like silk! The size of the xp is rather large and took a few minutes to get used to but I like the size and think that as my hair gets longer the size will be helpful. HTH
 
I am returning my XP for an MP. That thing works amzingly well on my hair, but it is a brick to work with. I got very good results from it and if the MP is supposed to work just as well, then I would rather have the MP when it comes to size.

Fantasia heat protectant/straightener in the pink bottle has excellent reviews everywhere. And it did NOT weigh my hair down at all-- still LOTS of swing and movement.
 
I recieved the XP. And it is HUGE! LOL I will keep it though and order the MP before the $20 coupon expires. I played the dvd and my niece wants one now. LOL She's going to get the MP. I notice that it comes with a 2 year warranty. I hope it will last me longer than 2 years. :ohwell:
 
Hello Ladies-

I recently purchased the XP newer model. I used to own the older XP version years ago when I was relaxed. I get great results from the XP and since they only differ in size I think its a matter of what you prefer. I don't have any problems with the size of the XP but if you have small hands you may prefer the MP. Even though they recommend the XP for courser hair I dont think it makes a difference at all.

I emailed someone at Maxius to get clarification on the differences between the XP and MP.

Both irons have exactly the same features. The only difference is the size of the plates. With course hard to straighten hair I usually recommend the XP. Either one will work the same.
