Is it worth it? Tell me the benefits and downfalls of having a maxiglide, I want one but I need to know what I'm getting into.

my daughter loves hers... I got it for XMas for her from bed bath & Beyond... it was on sale and I used a 20% off coupon... got it for like $65

she likes the mini-teeth and the steam that makes it easier to go thru her hair than a regular flat iron... she doesnt have to turn the heat up very high on her mixed 2A/3A/B hair

Hey Songbird,

I bought the maxiglide mp. I've only used it a couple of times. I straightened day old curlformers with the teeth, and used the flat plate after a rollerset.

I like the steam burst on my ends. Its like added moisture. The teeth are OKAY. It can def. straighten with one swipe, but I do feel that if i use the teeth continuously, that I'll end up with breakage (even if i use a small tooth comb beforehand). I got better results using the flat plate, but when i was 16 weeks post, it didn't get my roots as straight as i like it. So i had to go back to my solia for that.

All in all, I'm not mad i bought it. I'm just not gonna use it as often as my solia. I only plan to use the teeth if i'm in dying need for straight hair after an airdry, braidout, or another textured style. other than that i'll just use the flat plate

I think it's worth it. I have 3c/4a type hair and it makes my hair very silky (I airdry my hair before flat ironing). I like that it has wide plates so I can flat iron quicker (I part my hair down the middle in 2 sections and the plates are wide enough to fit all my hair in 1 of the sections for almost my whole head...I hope that made sense :ohwell:). I don't use the steam bursts because I heard that it boils the hair. It's also bulky, but I don't mind because the wide plates make it worth it to me. I also like it because I can control the temperature.

I cant do without it after a rollerset, although i dont use the steam or the teeth as it made my texlaxed hair frizzy. I just put it on setting 5, with one pass my roots are straight...

Nappy!!! Your hair is beautiful!
 ( that is a WOW...)
:look:

I don't think no other flat-iron can compare. It has the steam button (which softens my hair and makes it easier to straighten) and the teeth (optional-but it helps detangle and straighten as well). I've used it on my hair when it was 14 weeks post and it straightened it with no problem.

ETA: I bought mine on HSN.com for $69.99 with the serum, leave-in, DVD, etc. Included

I have the Maxi MP. I've only used it once and with the steam option, it straightened my roots beautifully!! It made the rest of my 4a hair really straight too, dare I say too straight?

I dont like the teeth, though. too many little hairs on the plate. And I glided it as lightly as I could. Next time, I'm going to use the flat plates only, but I had waaaaay better results than I got with the Sedu. It's a definite keeper!

I have the regular Maxiglide and I bought it at Bed Bath and Beyond. I have to say that I love how it straightens my 4a/b roots out but I don't use it after 6 weeks post relaxer, because I'm texlaxed and I find too many broken hairs in the teeth.

It doesn't matter how careful I am, I still get little broken hairs in the teeth. So I go back to my Sedu after 6 weeks post texlaxer. :yep: If you're relaxed I say "Buy it girl!"

I love it. It seems to be a lot less gentle on the hair. I used it on all 3 of my girls in my siggy. I love the steam feature for the ends of my hair too. Q

Do the teeth rip your hair out?

No because I detangle real well and I don't use it down the length. What I do is clamp it down on a section, release it and then clamp down on the next section. I do the the length of the hair. It takes a little more time but it works. Q

I love it and I am so happy that I got it! It does NOT pull my hair out at all...I have NO hair in the comb.

I love the steam burst too! It gets my hair really straight and my hair is soooooooooooooooooooooooo silky!

Did I say I loved it? Oh, yeah I did:lachen:

It has now become my bestest friend. It made me change my mind about texlaxing/relaxing my hair for sure!

HTH

I love mine but have never used the steam. The maxiglide makes my hair very straight and silky.:yep:

The key with the teeth is to make sure that you are not pressing the plates down too hard.

I love, love, love my maxiglide! It gets my texlaxed hair very silky and straight with lots of body and bounce

I didn't see what all the hype was about either until I tried mine out this past weekend. It straightened my air dried naps with one pass through. I was sold after that.

I love it to no end. I use it with the steam burst and the teeth! It was the best pj item I have EVER bought, well maybe next to the indian powders, dom conditioners, vatika oil and Chi silk infusion, lol.

I love it! I have had mine for about two years now. I am natural and my hair looks like I got a fresh relaxer when i'm done, it also gets my root straight. I hesistated about buying it at first but I am glad I decided to spend the money and get it.

So ladies, how safe is it to use? Could I use it everyday because its steam heat, or should I still only use it like once a week or something? And does it get your hair BONE STR8 or do you find that you have to go over it with another flat iron to get that look? Thanks for all the responses. I absoultely love you ladies!

Please Please please don't use it everyday! I dont think you would even need to with wrapping or tying it up but that might be dangerous for your hair health.

I love mine. I have all three now mini, maxi, and the mp. Ive had the big one for a little over a year, and the only thing I didnt like was the size.

I love mine, but I rarely use it. I've had it about a year and used it about 3 times. I'm trying to bun or rollerset most of the time, so I sometimes forget that I have it.
