My hair has been breaking like crazy for the past week or so. can u guys suggest something.... anything that can stop this. i have natural 3c/4a type hair. I will try just about anything becasue this is really depressing:(. Also, how can i prevent my hair from breaking?
Do you know of any moisturizeer that really prenetrates the hair and makes it soft and actually moisturizes my hair, not jsut for that day. Because i have been trying a couple things but the GREASY/oily products are not working for me, the grease/oil just seem to sit on my hair and does nothing. What would you guys reccomend me using?

Elasta QP Mango Butter works well as a moisturizer.

As for the breakage, I've used Hi Pro Pac and Aphogee Treatment with good results. Good luck.

Coconut oil is a great moisturizer. I use it every day...and I love it. It's the only oil that I have used so far that works for me. I don't really know what to do for breakage...accept maybe suggest that you try Aubrey Organics GPB. It helped with my shedding. Here is a little *bump*

I had major breaking about 4 months ago. I used Barry Fletcher's Protein Reconstructor and it stopped instantly...

I would say some deep conditioning with AO GPB and use some castor oil afterward...it penetrates the hair shaft and is a wonderful moisturizer for my hair.

I agree, try a protein treatment and after rinsing, while your hair is still wet slather on some qp mango butter from roots to ends. When it dries your hair will be soft and pliable.

hth.

Do you know what's causing the breakage? It would be best if you posted your regimen and go from there.

Also, how often are you using heat on your hair? Are you relaxed or natural?

I have natural 4a hair, I really recommend Profectiv breakfree, especially on my ends, it's the only thing that keeps them moisturized, even more than the Elasta mango butter in my case. Aubrey's GPB is great too.

I suggest doubling up on the moisturizing - for which ever moisturizer you choose. I moisturize my hair in the morning & at night (then wrap it up) Surprisingly enough, my face/pillow case is not messy

Prettyinpink,

What is your daily regimen?

But anyhow your hair is extremely dry this is why it is continuously breaking. You need hot oil hot oil and more hot oil!!!

. What worked extremely well for me was the EVOO treatment posted by BOADICEA. It's on the DSD needs advice post.

Ok, i just started to get really serious about my hair care and this is what i have been doing. I removed my sew in weave about a week and a half ago. When i first removed it i washed with Granier Frutise Frotifying Shampoo since the comercial claim it stops hair form breaking then i shampooed and condition with Pantene Relaxed and Natural. Applyed Garnier Frutis 3 min Hair Mask. Then i did a "Dark and Lovely Dry Hair Healer ( cholesteral Conditioning Treatment and went under a heat cap for like 10 min". Then i applyed IC Fantasia styling gel and a little World of curls to the front of my hair and Cantu Shea Soft to my ends along with a little grease that cotains jojoba oil and a couple other oils. The Cantu didn't seem to help me at all my ends were still really dry and my hair was still breaking even though the bottle said its a Strengthing Treatment and i put my hair in a bun. Then the days that followed i condition washed my hair with Sauve Naturals Tropical Coconut. Since Saturday i have not washed my hair i've just been applyin the Cantu to my hair wnds hoping that it would kick in, lol and that grease i mention "All ways Natutal Super Grow Condtioning Hair dress.

So TODAY i went to the store and i picked up these items: V05 Total Hair Recovery one time use inensive treatment
Elast QP Mango Butter!:)
Pantene 2 in 1 Shampoo and Conditioning Daily Moisture Renewal
Neutogena Triple Moisture Silk Touch Leave in Cream( it was a little watery) I COULD NOT FIND THE SERUM
frown.gif

Pantene Relaxed and Natural Wrap & Set spray
V05 Total Hair Recovery Conditioner

I shampooed with the Pantene R&N, then i appled the V05 Total recovery to my damp hair, put on the plastic cap and left it for about 10 mins. The i Condition With the V05 Total Hair recovery Conditioner. When my hair was pretty much damp i applyed the Neutrogena Triple moiture, but it didn't seem like it was doing so i went for the Mango Butter which worked GREAT, made my hair really soft and manegable. So i twisedt my hair up and now i'm waiting until i take them out and comb my hair to see if i will experence any breakage. I HOPE NOT.

This is the Plan. .
Wash every other day with Pantene 2 in 1 Moisturizig Shampoo and Condtioner
Try the Triple Moitsture again.
Put Mango Butter on my ends
Style with IC Fantasia Gel

What guys think? My hair is thin so i'm going to try Surge in a couple weeks to see if i can achieve some more thickness and also S-Curl to try and define my curls some more. I do not apply any heat at all to my hair, expect for when i go under the heat cap.
Feel free to suggest any products that might work well on my 3c/4a natual hair. Especially thing that will make it thicker.
Thanx to all that is taking to time to answer my questions, i really appreciate it:)

Shea butter and try conditioning oils as well such as wild growth hair oil, sweet almond oil , vitamin e oil, carrot oil, tea tree oil, etc. etc.- Use your conditioning oils as a hot pre-shampoo treatment.

As for your plan, getting your hair wet every other day is a good idea, but I wouldn't use shampoo---use plain water most days, and use a light conditioner for other days--that's what I do. I'd just use the shampoo once every week or two; I only use it once a month, if that. Shampoos can be very drying. I don't know how you style your hair each day, but some of the ladies find that putting vaseline on the ends of wet hair helps to lock in moisture--if you tuck the ends under in a bun or some other protective hairstyle. I've found using vaseline this way is just as benefical as Profectiv's healthy ends (it's cheaper too).

Also, I think spritzing your hair during the day and at night with some moisturizing mixture would be helpful---like with water or glycerin, or water and s-curl, or water and coconut oil. This will keep your hair from getting too dry. Also make sure the gel you're using doesn't have alcohol in it---that can be drying also. And for breakage, I like Joico's K-pac..the Sally's generic brand is fine. Today I tried motions protein conditoner (Motions Moisture Silk), and it's all right also.

Good luck.

I was going to ask the same thing. What's causing the breakage?

PIP,
I wouldn't suggest using Surge if you're experiencing breakage. It contains a lot of protein and that's what I believe caused my setback a couple of months ago. I've sworn off Surge altogether. It's not for everyone.

Also, I second doing pre-shampoo hot oil treatments. Try EVOO and Honey.

Are you sleeping with either silk or satin around your hair every night?

Are you using any heat?

You sound like you plan to comb your hair dry when you take out the twists. You realize this is a big no-no, right?

From your list of products, it sounds like your hair is OD'ing or eventually will, which will only worsen the breakage.

Also, some of them, like the Pantene line, have all kinds of harsh ingredients (detergents), and drying cones that will only worsen your situation. Garnier Fructis shampoo... this is bound to be loaded with harsh detergents. Don't believe commercials, you need to read and understand product labels, and cut down on your # of products. Don't buy everything that's suggested to you. Try to take control of your hair situation.

I think you would really benefit from cruising forums like naturallycurly, nappturality, etc, to learn the real basics about caring for your natural hair.

Good luck!
