Ladies for some reason my ends are fine but when my hair is wet and i try to comb through it really hard to. And so the middle of my hair seems to breaking. has anyone has this problem before. I am in my 10th week post relaxer. Yesterday i got a wash and used the DRC 28, which helped a little. Do u think it's because i need a toch up. Can u guys recommend something...??

I think my hair grew alot this time, i have gained at least 2.5 inches. I am wondering if i should start doing some more protective styles and keep my hair moisturized. I use Keracare essential oils so i didn't think i would have a problem with moisture

yeah I would suggest not manipulating your hair at all right now...or as little as possible. protective styles would be good to keep your hands out of it...the more u handle it when its breaking, the more it breaks. Also make sure your hair and especially new growth are very moisturized, it eases the tension between the new growth and relaxed hair.

I experienced breakage when trying to stretch out relaxers. I've realized this is a major NO NO. Stretching out relaxers causes hair to get tangled and snap. Since I have been getting relaxers 7-8 weeks faithfully I don't get breakage. Everything is different for everybody but maybe it isn't good if you wait that long.

Hello msprettyeyes,

So with relaxing your hair every 7-8 weeks you say you have no breakage? Out of curiosity, what do you use to keep your hair moisturized? I only relax (lye-based) when I start to feel I cannot get my fingers through my hair, which is about 2-3 times a year. In the meantime I use conditioning washes, a little detangling oil, and keep my hair in a protective style. I too have little breakage/minor shedding.

I think the courser your hair is, the more difficult it is to stretch relaxers. That doesnt mean its impossible, just more of a challenge bc the new growth is sooo tightly coiled. For example, I consider my hair 4a/4b which is course, and I can go quite a while between retouches, but my sister has hair that is so thick and course it can barely be combed a few weeks post relaxer.

She used to have it relaxed @ 5 weeks at the salon and her hair was the healthiest ever. Its really a personal thing, but if you are used to only relaxing 2-3 times a year I dont think thats your problem and would look to increase moisture and strengthen your hair. In the meantime just be extra gentle with it and manipulate as little as possible. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 treatments to see major improvement, the same thing just happened to me and its gotten much better~

good luck and keep us posted!
