Lustrasilk Cholesterol (Shea and Olive Oil) Different formulas?

Do any of you use these regularly like I do? These conditioners are my staples and I have noticed something different since my last stock replenish.

The two have a different scent and texture.

I don't have pics of the Shea Butter one, but I do of the Olive Oil one.

I have not used them yet to tell the difference (I hope it still works as well) but you can tell that one is lighter. The new one is lighter in color and creamier. It also smells different. Better actually.

The Shea butter one is the same. I liked the old scent better, though.

Anyway, thought I would share. I will be trying the new ones this weekend or next week and I will report my experience.

I regularly use the Shea. I just bought one recently (last week) and it seems like the same formula to me. Maybe my BSS hasn't restocked with the new formulas? Thanks for sharing!

Are the ingredients actually different on the jar? If not could it be that that the product was tampered w/, i.e. watered down.

they are different now. the ingredients are listed the same order but the texture and scent are different. i checked more than one container at two different sallys. it doesn't work the same to me.

In a bad way?

I am so disappointed. These have been so good for my hair.

It is crazy the the ingredient list is the same but it is obvious very different. What? They bought new production equipment or something? :ohwell:

well it all makes sense now. before when i tried the shea one my hair hated it but recently i have found my new love. i usually use the blue one for the scalp but i like this new shea better:yep:

I have used the Shea Butter one in the past and I bought a jar of the Olive one that I have yet to use. I got it because of all your wonderful reviews HoneyDew! It seems creamy and thick in the jar but then again I have nothing to compare it to.

still moisturizing just a little less slip

I think they changed the formula of the Shea Butter. The color and consistency are both different. It seems like there is more oil and it doesn't work for me anymore. I have spent so much money this past week trying to find a replacement DC.

Oh no...why does this always happen with the good stuff. The Shea is a staple to make my henna gloss. Why????

I am pretty sure the formula has changed for both.

I am sooooo disappointed. These are the only 2 Cholesterol conditioners with out mineral oil.

I just deep conditioned tonight with them (I use the shea and then top it off with the Olive oil) and my hair just loves it. My NG is just so tamed.

I am afraid to try these new ones. :perplexed

I have never seen able to use the shea butter one alone. But I like the smell of it so that is why I use it with the olive oil one. Even with the two, the smell of the shea butter one stood out.

I am going to se using this new shea butter one this weekend but I still have some of the older olive oil one that I need to finish off. Since the consistencies are so different now, I am not sure I would like to mix them like I have been doing.

Oh well, we will see how it goes. I deep condition with these and I am going to be pissed if after an hour this stuff does not leave me with the same soft hair that I have been getting all this time.

I love both...I also use the Aloe Vera one....I think the Shea Butter is my favorite....I went to Sally's yesterday and they were out of all of them....So I got Proclaim Cholesterol .....I hope I like it...

sigh.......how depressing.

i can't stand it when a company switches things up, even worse when they don't warn you with the "new and improved" label slapped on there.

I love the Shea Butter formula. I haven’t tried the “new formulation” yet, hope it works the same on my hair! :crossfingers:

Keep us posted on how the new Shea works for you!! I might have to stock up on the old one ... just like with the CON. I can't believe my staples are gradually being discontinued. Bah-humbug.

I am going to find some old ones TODAY. I am not ready to use the new ones yet. :look:

I hate the new formulas. The olive oil one is the worst thing I have ever put in my hair. I used to love the old shea one.

Goodness. Those are some strong words jaiku.

I am not going to even try it. I am taking them back to the store and start searching for a replacement. I am so disappointed. And I cannot find a number to call them.

Well today I found 2 tubs of the Olive oil and 3 of the shea butter originals.

I also found a Liquid Cholesterol in the Shea Butter Formula. I had never seen it before. It is just like the one in the tub so I got 2 of those, as well.

I hope they put the old Olive Oil formula in a bottle and call it liquid cholesterol, too.

I just called this place and this chick told me that these have not changed and they are the same as they always have been.

This kind of stuff makes me want to seriously create my own personal products so I will know what is in there and what to expect.

Obviously these conditioners HAVE changed (smell, texture and results) and there is something different but this lady was talking to me like I was a nut-job calling up there.

:wallbash:

It's the truth. I'm natural and it was like putting straight baby oil in my hair. It took a while for my hair to return to normal :perplexed.

I had two of them and took them back to Sally's I am not going to even bother.

After I use up my supply I am going to just cut my loss and move on. I actually can't stand the smell of the new shea butter one - maybe I am just used to the old one.

Oh well.

*sigh*

I used to be fanatic about Lustrasilk Cholesterol. Unfortunately, back in 2004 they fired 26 of their board members and got all new ones (Lexis-Nexis). Immediately after that they changed their formula and I was left with nasty greasy sticky hair.

Maybe they fired more people. For more info ask the Gillete Company (the shaving people). They're the ones that own this company.

I did Gillette last week. Girl, they did not know what the heck I was talking about. LOL The lady was nice though she was searching in her database to find the manufacturer. That is how I found out about the Allegheny company. I don't know what is going on with them, but I am going to just move on.

Now, it seems after the fire folks they change up formulas. But, I am mad that the ingredient list is the same. The product is obviously different. Unless the manufacturing process is just different.

Since they only charge pennies on the dollar for the stuff, maybe they are trying to cheap out and switch up some things.

Anyway, whatever the reason, I am going to just find another product. I hate being a slave to these products that end up changing and disappearing.

I am not sure if anyone is interested, but I wanted to post an update because I have seen discussion of this on another hair board, too.

Anyway, I got two emails this week from the company that makes this product.

Here is the first:

We have not changed any of the formulas in our cholestrol products and yes the liquid cholestrol is the same as the one in the tub.

He is referring to the "liquid" cholesterol in the bottles vs. the one in the tub. I told him that they seem the same to me and I was wondering if that was the case. Anyway, here is the 2nd email:

Thank you for your email about our products. I can not understand why the products do not have the same consistency as you are used to however, I am sending some new jars to your attention. Thank you for your loyal support of our products and I hope that the new products will be back to the same good quality standards that you are used to.

Regards,

I actually replied to Sam this morning and thanked him for the email, and send him the pictures I took to show the difference. There IS a difference. Anyway, if they stay this way, I will just have to find a replacement. I hate the idea of that because these two conditioners, cheap has they may be, work wonders for my hair when I use them as a deep conditioner.

Oh well.

Okay so I got the package today.

LOL Guess what? He sent me the new formula. Shows how much they really check out these products they are pushin'!

I got 2 products (free - so I cannot complain). I got a bottle of the Shea Butter Liquid Cholesterol and a jar of the the Shea Butter conditioner. They are the same the sales manager confirmed. But these clearly are not the same. The bottle of the "liquid" conditioner is the same as it has been. The tub is some new stuff that is NOT the same. It does not even smell the same. It is the one that has been popping up all over the BSS world.

Here are the bottles I got. Again, I am not complaining - they were free. But, they ARE different and I am not sure why the people up there don't want to admit that.

I know yall think I am crazy for carrying so much. :) You know how it is when something just WORKS for you. Oh well, as I mentioned, when my supply is finished, I am going to have to just find something else for my hair. :nono: I am not going to even sweat it anymore. :ohwell:
