Sometimes, you have to take it one MINUTE at a time.

I took down my flat twists to prepare for tomorrow's wash day. I used my Ayurvedic oil on my scalp and my hair. I actually massaged for 4 minutes  The trick is I need to put on a song I like to distract me.

After that I sprayed my hair with Camille Rose conditioning spray and put in 4 twists on each side. I can now pull all the twists on one side back into a barrette :yay: My goal is to do various numbers of twist and then pull them back into a bun. This is a first step. Maybe by March I will get there.

I put on a plastic cap and a satin bonnet and now just letting some heat get to my scalp.

Going to keep wash day simple tomorrow.

September 2025 Update:

I COMPLETELY forgot shampoo eats up my hair!!!! I shampooed my hair and my hair was so hard and frizzy. I did not have my clays and I can't find kaolin clay in Los Angeles. I went to Whole Foods and Sprouts. I may try Trader Joes. Or probably have to just order it online.

@Chicoro, For the few times you do choose to shampoo, perhaps consider getting a quality shampoo. Maybe your hair does hate shampoo. Or maybe your hair just dislikes low quality shampoos. Have you tried a high quality, salon grade moisturizing shampoo for color treated hair? For your needs you can get a travel size bottle which will last you a year or two and not cost too much.

Hey Y'all !!!

I don't remember where i came across it but I hopped on the hair grease wagon ... and I love it !!!
adding hair grease to my ends after moisturizing has been a game changer. Currently I have my hair in mini twists, wash every 2 weeks and re-twist every 3weeks to a month .. Ill cowash in between as needed.

did a little mid month length check and I'm quite happy with my retention so far. I will continue with this routine at least for another month but most likely till just before Christmas.

Kept wash day simple;
Cleansed once
Conditioned with leftover conditioner
Baggied for 10 minutes
Put my hair in 4 sections
Added leave-in
Added Mielle twist cream to each section
Put in 12 Bantu Knots

After I let my hair dry for a couple of hours, I then put it in two flat twist with an offset part.
I put Rosemary on the very ends of each twist.

I usually twist with gel and not twist cream but will see how this goes.

There are 9 to 10 washes until the end of the year. I'm going to try to keep it simple.

I plan to color next weekend and then return to this regimen for the rest of the year.

October Update Series of Questions

How are you progressing? What are those ends looking like?
They are OK. Not great but not bad. I think until my hair is even in the back and I can do some braids, I'm going to have to stay on top of the splits. But each quarter is better than the last.

Have you had any epiphanies? No.

Have you set bolder goals? No.

Have you pulled back on some goals?
For some reason I said I was going for APL this year. :perplexed: No idea where I got that from. I'm just going to focus on SL for December and APL for next June. Seems more reasonable.

Have you had any realizations about your hair or your hair care practices?
Not really. I did add putting on a plastic cap after I rinse out the conditioner to let my hair absorb water. I think I will start putting my hair in Bantu Knots in the shower and then putting on the plastic cap and letting it dry a bit before doing leave-in and styling.

How is your consistency?
Same consistently; cleansing and restyling every weekend.

Extending grace to you?
Yep, no problem. But feeling a bit impatient with my length in the back. I'm ready to be able to put my hair into 6 to 8 braids and just put it up.

Did my weekly cleanse: shampooed 2x, conditioned for 3 minutes; leave-in, gel and put in 6 flat twists on each side.

Last week instead of gel I tried the twist cream and put rosemary oil on my ends. I put my hair in two flat twists. They seemed to hold up well but when I took them down I didn't like the way my hair felt. So this week I went back to my gel. I've never had any type of success with hair creams, so I am not completely surprised.

But while twisting my hair tonight, I also realized that instead of doing my flat twist in my regular rope style, I was just doing regular flat twists. That also could be an issue. So I made sure I twirled before I twisted. It looks better anyway and it doesn't really take additional time.

I watched a youtube video where the person talked about water and its impact on temporary bonds in the hair. It made me think that I shouldn't keep my hair wet any longer than necessary. But it also helped me understand that when I try to do a wash and go why it is important to dry my hair as quickly as possible to set the temporary bonds to hold the style.

I will be thinking about this more to see if I want to change my regimen in any way.

October Notes:

How are you progressing? What are those ends looking like? My ends look good. I scheduled a self-trim on Tuesday. It will be a deep cut microtrim, where I go in and trim the shorter hairs within each layer.

Have you had any epiphanies? Intentional simplicity is working for me. I currently have a keratin treatment in my hair and I love it. I ended the summer in WNGs and now I'm bunning with leave-in conditioner and batana oil.

Have you set bolder goals? Nope. I'm just trying to get back to CBL after my hibiscus fiasco. The breakage has stopped, but my shedding has increased. I can't remember is this is my normal shed cycle or something else. I'm taking my vitamins (Multi, Iron, B12, Calcium/D3).

Have you pulled back on some goals? I'm not going to make APL this year and that's okay.

Have you had any realizations about your hair or your hair care practices? I need to be more gentle when detangling my hair and I need to consistently massage my scalp. My hair is too fine to not take my time, even with the use of a detangling pre-poo. Massaging my scalp is for blood circulation and to keep my hair rooted to my scalp.

How is your consistency? Great! I wash my hair once per week. I water rinse my hair as needed. I'm maintaining my keratin treatment.

Extending grace to you? Always

hey yall, just checking in ... good news, I redid my mini twists during hurricane Melissa, my roof stayed on and I got back power and water within 24 hours. some neighbours had minor damage and a few lost their roof or partially lost, but our general neighbourhood didnt get hit badly as we were pretty far away from the eye.

still havnt made contact with relatives who where in the area where the eye passed but staying positive that no news is good news !!!

Great update!

Thank goodness! Sounds like you were in ‘an eye of peace and safety’ during the storm. I hope everyone is safe and that everyone makes contact soon.

I used my Cecred hair mask today. Although it does a good job of making my curls more springy, I won’t repurchase this. No matter how much conditioner I put in my hair after I rinse out the mask, detangling is too difficult.
