If your back and feet hurt and you just too worn out to march into the weekend, take a listen and snap your fan and just blow your whistle.
Sling your braids, twists, fro, press and curl, bun and pony tail to the beat.

Moisturize your hair and cover your head tonight, all that sweating may draw up them ends.

Put some respect on that, for Queen Shea.

And behold HER impact.

Shea butter reminder as it relates to those luscious, long ends:

Use it if it works for your hair texture and styles.

My Spidey senses begin to tingle even when a Shea head is miles and kilometers away. Here comes one now.

She's a long time Shea butter user. Her new goal is full thigh length. She practices keeping her ends rolled up, too.

Long live Queen Shea!
A true queen.

My ends felt really good this morning. I rollerset my hair Thursday night and took them out Friday morning. I’ve been adding my 24 hour overnight serum from Redken and either my Moroccanoil or the Kerastase oil morning and night. Last night I put the curls from the Rollerset into a bun and added a shower cap to the bun part. I woke up with super soft hair that still had the Rollerset curls.

I wish I was better at Rollersets and didn’t take so long to do them because my ends feel great and I have a style that seems to be lasting without much effort.

I also used a slightly different shower routine Thursday since I was trying to give my hair all the love after the excessive heat at the salon last Sunday.
- I actually took the time to Prepoo before work and let that sit until the evening
- I washed with Kerastase genesis which is an anti breakage / anti hair fall shampoo
- used k18 to minimize any damage
- used elizavecca cer-100 for a protein treatment
- ended with the Redken abc conditioner

Maybe I just needed to switch it up and give my hair other active ingredients sometimes? Maybe I need to baggy my ends every night? Maybe I need to do more oil pretreating or use a heat cap with oil when short on time? It’s probably a combination of everything but my hair feels really nice. My trim was significant so I really just want to keep them split free.

On another note, I noticed the huge density disparity in my crown. Like up to 4 inches look twice as dense as the remaining 8–10”. I know it’s from likely from previous scalp issues but it’s making it hard to style/ Rollerset that section and I think it’s more difficult to get conditioner on those pieces.

It's a wonderful feeling when your hair looks and feels great, especially when you have a regimen that doesn't feel like too much effort. Great job!

Regarding the density disparity, is there anything that you cam think of that may have caused it? Could it have been due to your recent salon visit? Reaction to a new product/s? We're things the same on the last wash day you carried out yourself?

Setbacks are so disappointing, especially when everything else seems to be working so well for. I was looking through my old HHJ earlier, I found an entry I had made of a minor setback. I was actually able to trace it back to an ingredient in one of the products I had used. I would advise you to make note of products you're using, their ingredients, the order in which you are using them, processes, and how your reacts to them all.

So last couple years I’ve had sensitivity in the middle of my scalp from almost a decade of non stop sew-ins. I had/ still somewhat have a literal depression in my scalp because the person who did my hair would usually start from the middle and do circles for the braiding pattern. I took out my last sewin early last year on my hair journey restart.

I think the hair there really just didn’t grow for a while but once I prioritized scalp care, I saw less miniaturized hairs in my scalp. I am also pregnant so maybe that’s boosting things a bit more (albeit temporarily :-/)

Congratulations on your pregnancy ❤️ I can relate to the growth aspect, my hair grew like weeds while I was pregnant.

The good thing is you know what has likely caused the density issues. As you mentioned, scalp care is likely to be the best way to address this. I'm sure some of the ladies across the board can chime in on the things that have helped them.

I've used a few minor growth aids, like caster oil, wild growth oil, JBCO iI found far too thick, in fact, I found all of those oils too thick. I also do not like/meed anything on my scalp.

I'm considering making my own leave in sprays for growth. I want to infuse oils too, my favorite oils are grapeseed and avocado, they're not too heavy. Today I was reminded of my love for papaya oil, although that's a lot harder to source than the other two.

The ingredients I would like to use for the sprays and infusions are, rosemary, mint, flaxseed, aloe vera, marshmallow root, slippery elm and cloves (not altogether though ).

I'm planning to start with a detangler/prepoo, then I want to add a couple of gels with 2 or 3 of the ingredients. I want to add a scalp spray, I think that will work better for me and then oils which I can use for HOT's/prepoo's when I feel in the mood.

If I start slow, watch my hair's response and progress, it should minimise my ris of setbacks. I feel like I'm going to need the extra assistance to get to HL/TBL length by 2026......

I can’t do thick products on my scalp either, I posted pictures in the scalp care thread but my follicles do not want to be more clogged than they naturally get. I definitely would do a scalp spray but for now I am using water based scalp serums I can just buy.

I love using lotion crafters for raw ingredients when I am more in the mood for mixology so perhaps check if some of the items you want are there.

I finally took my braids down, after having my hair braided up all of last year and four months into this one. I started last night and finished this morning. Even though I’ve been consistently trimming my ends- cutting away heat damage in my crown, as well as allowing my shorter layers to catch up by trimming my longest lengths down, I was so eager to see how my hair was coming along overall because I haven’t seen it all loose for so long (as I type, I just realised that I forgot to DC with my DC!) I did use the standard con from the Amika Hydro line, and got so steamy in the shower that my smoke alarms went off .

My hair looks and feels much healthier than when I began this routine. My shrinkage is back to pre-henna days:pepper:. I trimmed today, after one pass with my ceramic flat iron at 199°C. I am happy with my progress.IMG_1378.jpegIMG_1372.jpeg
