Luscious Healthy Ends Challenge 2019/2020

I'm in!!
1. I'm natural,
2. Current Hair Length CB-APL

3. Why are you joining this challenge? - Because I've recently dirrd my hair, and have been noticing some early onset damage and want to nip this in the bud (and do more colour in the future)

4. What have you tried to improve your ends? Shea butter on ends...sometimes.

5. What are you going to try to get those healthy ends? I just did a self trim over the weekend to get softer ends and help my detangling sessions.
Also trying new products and ends treatments..

6. Any helpful tips you learned for your fellow challengers...

Day #4 is when my hair starts to stick together, when I have my hair in a baggie. I think I'm good and will continue to go with the baggie process. I will need to make sure I re-do my braids on a weekly basis. The baggie method 3.0 is good for my ends and my braids, overall, even with the sticking.

I didn't take any pomade with me on vacation. I did stick with rinsing and conditioning every other day. My ends seemed to do OK. I'm back home and back to the Crisco. I rinsed, conditioned, twisted and coated my ends with Crisco.

The weather isn't so dry now so that should help.

Checking in with my Ends Routine for the month of February, 2019.

I braided my hair again on Sunday. Today is Wednesday. Thus, this
is three (3) days of not combing my braids. My ends look great.
I see that they are moisturized and I keep them lubricated and
protected.

You can see my braids are fuzzy. Also, they continue to stick together.
They get that way when I use my liquid spray concoction for my baggie 3.0 Method. But, I just pull them apart and keep going.

There are very few knots. But, it's hard to see split ends when the hair
is natural and not heat straightened.

I have been doing low manipulation and high protective styling since
September/October 2019. I just wash, condition, roll into my style and roll
back out of my style when it is time to wash again. It's really simple and really
easy for me to sustain and maintain.

The spray I used on my ends has glycerin as the second ingredient. Glycerin in my leave-in products usually leaves my hair feeling hard so I did it to counteract it drawing moisture from my hair.

Now see, that's analysis! Like I always say, growing Afro textured hair is a thinking game. Your action and response exemplify that. Got it! Thanks.

I've been rinsing and conditioning every other day since mid January. My ends are starting to smooth out and not be so gnarly. Sometimes I put castor oil on them, sometime I just twist with the conditioner in. Looking forward to seeing how they look at the end of April

Still doing search and destroys but I think with the regular rinsing my ends aren't splitting nearly as much as before. Unfortunately with my hair being so many different lengths there is no way to get a fresh start without doing a big chop and that ain't gonna happen.

But it looks promising so we shall see.

I re-braided my hair after 7 days. Only the back right braid, 1 of 8, was difficult to undo the ends. The rest came loose with minimal effort. I'm trying to go as long as I can without trimming or cutting. I just greatly prefer to trim hair that has been heat straightened. I don't plan to heat straighten until February 2020, even if then.

Just sitting under the dryer currently with a rollerset. Setting is so good for my hair, it really smooths the ends and makes my hair feel so silky and manageable. I used to do this week in and week out with great results so I need to get back to what works.

Lord who knows what is going on with my ends  I am rinsing my hair every other day and then applying diluted conditioner. My roots are starting to feel amazing. My twists are separating more easily. I am adding Castor oil to my ends when I twist them up. I'm still doing search and destroys.

I plan to dust my ends at the end of April like usual.

So I will keep doing what I'm doing and hoping for the best.

My regimen this weekend is:

Pre-poo - Chicoro's moisture pre-poo of AVG and EVCO - I need the big guns this weekend and this works well on my hair.
Shampoo - Natur Growth Bambu shampo
Protein DC - Natur Growth Bambu DC
Moisturizing DC - Afro Love Hair Souffle mixed with Bekura YAM Nectar
Leave-in - IN Aloe and Hibiscus
M/S - CFCG Curl Moisturizer and BM Grease or diy Shea Butter
Style - Bunning since my hair still roots still look pretty dark from my henna color last weekend.

Just made some Fenugreek oil to brew for a week on my window sill.

I also made some fenugreek rinse with AVJ and put it in the fridge to steep overnight before adding some peppermint and rosemary essential oils to it. I will start using this one tomorrow on my scalp and hair.

Applied some spray leave in to my roots and length. I applied my hair balm (mainly shea) to the ends, hair feels nice this morning.

Really?

So, ahm...how is your hair doing with that Shea butter balm?

Checking in...for end of March and April 1st: Hair Ends are healthy, but not luscious [yet]!
  • I've stopped using the liquid concoction on my ends. My braids are no longer soaking wet in the baggie. But, they still get fuzzy and stick together.
  • I took my 7 day old braids out yesterday. I just applied warm water to the last 6 inches and unbraided without incident.
  • I'm amazed that I can more easily braid and unbraid my very thin ends without breaking them.
My goal is to continue to maintain my ends and do a nice, deep, trim in February 2020.

Really?

lol I’ve only just started doing it. I was a bit worried initially because of the heaviness on my fine hair but I’m liking it so far. :yep:

I’m going to apply to the scalp now and again as you’ve recommended.

Sprayed and massaged my Fenugreek Tea Rinse on scalp and hair. The peppermint, Rosemary and Tea Tree oil in it have my scalp all wonderfully tingly. I am storing it in the fridge especially because of the AVG in it. It looks like enough for at least 2 weeks.

Here's is the recipe I used with a tiny change of adding about 2 ounces of my Hops, Earl Grey, and Horsetail Shavegrass herbal tea rinse I had in the fridge:
