Lost and Confused

This has been my issue. I was at BSL and I recently cut my hair to "rid myself of bad energy" :whip: in September. The issue I am having is deciding whether or not to go natural. My biggest issue is I have NEVER know the texture of my hair. My mother relaxed my hair at the age of 5, because she said it was too thick to manage. Now, I am 27 and I am tired of relaxers, but it doesn't seem like going natural is going to be all that easy or worth doing. I prefer to wear my hair straight. As it stands now, I stretch about 12 weeks between every relaxer and I am due. The new growth is so DAMN thick. :wallbash: There is about an inch or so new growth and it is so different in various spots on my head. I suck at doing hair and the cost of paying someone to do it is something I cannot take on with 3 kids. I am at a threshold where I am strongly considering making an appointment to relax it, but I don't think I will be satisfied with that decision :nono:. My family think I am crazy because we had a cousin that went natural, but didn't do anything to her hair. And having wild unkept hair is unheard of for me. I just don't know what to do. :wallbash: I have to wash my hair tonight, so I will post some pics of my hair wet, hopefully you can see what I am going through.

try doing a braid out, to kinda camoflage the new growth. braids are also good to help you stretch longer without daily manipulation.

Omg your hair is so thick and beautiful!! *picks jaw up

No one can tell you to keep relaxing or go natural that is your personal decision but you seem to want to go natural. Research on here and find what products will control your roots and help you on your journey....relaxed or natural. I have the same issue when I'm past 8 weeks. I use aloe vera juice water and glycerin in a bottle and spray on I also use ORS hair moisterizer and tie my hair down so it dries and then bun that bad boy!

*sometimes I use Hawiian Silky 14 in 1....man it does me right.
HTH!

If you don't think you'd be happy relaxing anymore, maybe you should try to transition.

Having never dealt with your natural hair, this will be something new for you. It will take time, patience, and effort to learn about and understand how to deal with your natural hair. There are lots of naturals on this board and elsewhere that have beautifully styled natural hair. There also many others who keep their natural hair straightened.

I think if you choose to transition, you may want to make it a long transition because it may be too much of a shock for you if you BC to short hair. Along with the physical change, you will have to make a mental change because you have had relaxed hair your whole life.

Take some time, read threads on the board about natural hair, products, straightening natural hair, and transitioning (there's a few transitioner support threads). Wait to relax until you are sure that's the way you want to go.

The only thing I can really suggest is checking out the transitioners support threads. I'm considering transitioning and I'm just reading their experiences.

Your hair looks good though, especially in the second pic.

Your hair is very thick and beautiful!

I agree with the others.... transitioning is a personal choice. Its something that only you can decide. We all transition for different reasons. Read up on the pros and cons and don't base your decision only on texture because you don't have to only wear it curly - there are flatirons, rollers, braids, buns, ponytails, braidouts, etc... and so much more you can do to your hair to get the results you want.

I wish you luck on whatever you decide to do. Happy hair growing and welcome!
