Does that always mean your hair is growing, or is just cause, they are getting old?
 
Oh Lord I hope the former rather than the latter.
I do think that washing/wetting may cause the roots to loosen up though.
 
Your hair does grow, but loosening of extension braids at the root could also be due to the extension hair sliding. I should know coz I wear braids all the time and I've seen what would seem like half an inch of growth before the month was up and it turns out not to be. If your hair is relaxed, of course you will be able to tell what's what from the total growth you get when you take them out.
 
It could mean growth but it could also be that the braid has slipped down, especially if you wash your hair in braids.
 
These braids are under my sew-in, and there is no extension hair added.
