Look at what my cousin did to me.

The last time I had this experience I was 14. I desperately wanted my friend, who I trusted trim the split ends on my nearly APL length hair. She was older(19) so I put even more trust in her and her hair experience. She ended up giving me a blunt neck length cut straight across in 3 snips. I cried. I know she was jealous.

You are really calm OP because I would be crying all through this tread and would have slapped her already

This is also why the one time I did get my hair trimmed, I made sure I was standing up and in front of the mirror. That way I could see him as he cut and could run if I needed to.

jenaccess - I'm sorry you got a haircut when you wanted a mini-trim. The first time my bff trimmed my hair, she didn't follow my instructions to pull/hold my hair with a comb and kept trying to even everything out. When she was done, my BSL hair was SL.

Trust me I understand that feeling of disbelieve and shock! On the good side, my bff knows what a mini-trim is and doesn't try to even it out anymore.

Your hair is gorgeous, thick and healthy! This is a setback but it will grow and look better than it did.

Well, who would be that jealous to cut off that much hair???

I think that she must have misunderstood. I don't know any women that would be that jealous to cut off 3-5 inches of hair.

Lawd there would be a big mis-understanding with us that day! Please learn to self-trim. It's about the only way to keep hair on your head.

i had no idea that stylists and even family members would deliberatly cut someone's hair extra short out of jealousy.

now, looking back on my history of dissatisfaction with effed up stylists, it all makes so much sense.

Be glad that YOU don't know any, but rest assured they do exist. If people will go so far as to put nair in conditioner...honey please. A super cut is the least of evil things women have done to other women out of spite and jealousy. You better make sure you aren't too trusting or naive that you become a victim at some point. People are doing unthinkable things nowadays.

When it comes down to this, I learned don't trust any one. God speed to a speeding recovery on your hair length. May it be thicker, shinier, and luscious by the end of this. Cheers to HHG & journey!

ETA: This thread is a reminder to me, to get cracking and learn how to self trim. I will need to do one soon. Sorry OP and thanks for sharing.

Did you tell her to make your hair even? If so, I understand why she cut so much. See the picture below, she cut your hair even with the shortest layer (see area in yellow circle and the yellow line). But she should have cut near the red line, since you only wanted to make your ends neater.

I am trying to give her the benefit of the doubt.

I understand where you're coming from, but there is no benefit to give here. That b**** was wrong on every level.

:look: sorry about calling your cousin a b**** jenaccess, but I believe it is well deserved in this case. It's not even my hair, and I'm ready to fight.

You are crazy! lol lol lol We used to have that whole movie memorized and we would recite it in school. I haven't seen that movie in yearssssssss. My teens have never seen it. I need to buy it.

I bought the book on my Kindle app and read it all again in a few days then stayed up too late this week watching the movie on my phone after someone on a thread here last week here mentioned Brandy's feet looking like Celie's!! I just had to read and watch it again. It had been YEARS!

It's amazing what LHCF can make you do!! Lol

Thanks my LHCF sisters for your support. I am thinking about weaving my hair up with kinky curly hair for 6 to 8 months. My family members say that I am tripping because I sill have a full head of hair. That isn't the point. my cousin know how I am about my hair and to cut that much hair off. She has trimmed my hair before like i wanted so i trusted her.

I really hate to hear these kinds of stories and I'm sorry this happened to you.

The same thing happened to me a few years back. A stylist turned a 1-2 inch trim into a 6-7 inch hair cut. And people didn't really understand why I was upset since I wasn't bald afterward and still had BSL hair (I was waist length before the cut).

I don't let others do my hair now (trims, straightening, etc). :nono: If my hair gets messed up, I'd rather it be me that did it.

see... she may have trimmed your hair before but it wasn't as long... it got longer and she felt the need to sabotage your hard work... let this be a lesson... many black women (not all, but many) cannot be trusted with other black women's hair when it comes to "trimming"... whether they are blood related or not!

Whoa! I don't see how you can accidentally do that... that's a HUGE difference even looking at the yellow and red line examples.

Your hair is gorgeous, new cut and all and as others have said, it will grow back. Now on to the real problem at hand...your cousin :nono:. Keep your distance from that girl...just my 2 cents.

Not for nothing but when you get trims you have to watch the stylist like a hawk. I'm a stylist myself (part time only)and I don't play that. When I want a deep trim I know who to go to and when I want a baby trim I do it myself. When I trim clients I literally have them show me how much they want off by demonstrating on their hair cus I don't want to hear any nonsense later.

When you get to those long lengths idk, people somehow think it's their duty to "even you up". It's a hard lesson learned but now you know. Don't let her touch you hair! That trim was very unnecessary!

Seems like you need some California intervention, let's roll. :iroc: Where is that hair mauling skicheech at? :clubu:
I have said it before, and I repeat myself, if I look in the mirror and see chopped. :210::pity:

Were you present when she cut your hair?
I have to agree with nayna....you have to watch every move of the scissors in the hands of the stylist. Unless she cut your hair in one big snip ( something akin to using a hedge trimmer), you should have stopped her long before you saw six inches on the floor.

:lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen: I'm sorry OP but that was funny
but seriously. There should be a scalping done to your cousin. This was no mistake and I hope yall can be cool in the future but right now u need to tie her down, get some clippers, and give her the fire marshall bill cut.

That's what is called in my culture straight up........BAD MIND!!!!! i cannot even begin to imagine why she did this. IMO there is NO EXCUSE FOR THIS!!!!

I dont even know where i would start stringing her up from.....literally.......maybe i'll start with her own hair.....smh

i'm sorry but this post angered me

Your hair is going to grow more beautiful and stronger than before, and this time even longer, and there's nothing that anyone can do about it but watch.

I'm so sorry she did this to you OP! :bighug:

I will read through the comments, but were you even watching when he was chopping your hair off? I don't want to turn this into "blame the victim", but when I get my hair cut, I'm always facing the (very large) mirror and constantly review what she's doing. I would have to be sleeping in the chair for my hair to be cut that short.

I agree with others, I think she's jealous of your beautiful hair. There would be some payback for sure. :bat:

I couldn't watch her cut my hair we were out on her patio and when someone is cutting my hair I look straight ahead so that my hair will come out even. I had just gotten off work and we were listening to Kem and I was sipping on a glass of wine. I was relaxed because I trusted her. Yes ladies I was slipping but it won't happen no more.
I have moisturizing daily, DC weekly and taking my vitamins religeously.
