Long haired naturals

I was just wondering for all of you who have achieved your goals for long hair, was your hair ever that long before you relaxed? I am trying to grow my hair long but I remember as a child before I relaxed my hair NEVER grew. It only started growing after I had a perm and started using braids. I think that I might have reached my maximum length which is the end of my neck. But I will continue to use no heat and see how things go.

I don't consider my hair long, but its current length is the longest I have experienced so far. My hair has never been this length, relaxed or natural (before my first relaxer in the 4th grade). My mom is amazed at how long it has gotten since I started taking pretty good care of it.

Locabout I'm going to step out on a limb and say you haven't seen the max your hair can grow yet. My hair was the same way. My mom says she forever tried to get the back hair to grow and had such a hard time. When I got a relaxer it finally grew an inch or so below my shoulders. Then I transitioned. It's been about 10 years and I'm scissor happy and rough on my hair (we're working on those things this year) and my hair happily grows to bra strap length every time. Of course I would like it longer but this is how long my hair grows with neglect.
Just keep taking care of your hair and it may surprise you. A watched pot never boils.
Happy growing!

Same here. I can now get it into one big pony puff on the back of my head and I'm thrilled. If it never grew any longer than this I'd be just fine.

You haven’t maxed out your hair growth potential. Your hair will grow as long as you want it to. Keep a hair diary. Be very observant of you hair’s reaction to weather, water, products, clothes, diet etc. Keep refining your techniques and before you know it, you’ll be well on your way to your hair goal.

I have no idea how long my hair is, but I know it's past bra strap. My album psw is "allmine" Check me out. My hair never grew past my shoulders when I was relaxed. I don't blame that on the relaxer though. I blame that on my negligence. I see plenty of relaxed women on here with long hair. You can grow relaxed hair long, but I prefer my hair natural though. I get compliments left and right.

The reason for me getting relaxer for the first time was because I thought it would help me grow my then natural, shoulder length hair longer. It had seemed to do that for someone I knew. It grew to my waist with the relaxer, then broke off. But I was one of those who got relaxed root to tip ever time I got it done! I decided to go back to natural hair in 2000. Now, my hair is the longest that it has ever been. It is probably two inches past my waist line right now. I'd say that I got the majority of my health and length in the last 13 months - due to the advice and inspiration from this board. I agree with what the ladies have said thus far. Also, until you get a routine down that works for you, it's really hard to tell whether or not you have reached your terminal/maximum length. Even though my hair is longer than ever before, I am not ready to say that it's as long as it is going to get because it's still growing. I would encourage you to continue what you are doing. With patience and great care, your hair will let you know when it has reached its maximum length.

I haven't look at everybody's album yet, but I wanna shout out to BellyDancer and Chicoro:
Your hair is like DANG !!!! I am going to be stalking your albums from now on.

And Chicoro, I was looking for a multiple bun protective style, and thanks to you, I have just found it!! Yoohoo!!! I loved what you did!!!
