Recently, circumstances had me travelling all over the place and I had the occasion of spending the night (out of state) at my sister's house. When I arrived I had been on the road for days deperately needed to wash the dirty birds nest going on under my half wig. Then the realization hit me. I didn't have not one hair product on me...I mean not a one! I immediately began to panick!
My sister and I have VERY different philosophies on hair care and very different heads of hair (she's a definite 4b relaxed and colored shoulder length) and the prospect of using her products...well...scared the h*ll out of me. But I had no choice, it was either that or nothing.
So I made my way to the shower and was relieved to find a bottle of green label CON sitting in there...so far so good. I washed my hair and then stumbled around the bathroom to find the conditioner...none there. Then I tried her room...none there...then I asked my dad...he didn't know, so I called my big sis on the phone to ask her where her stash was. She graciously offered up her best products but admitted that she didn't have any conditioner beacuse she gets her hair done at the salon
Out of haste and fear of what my hair would look like sans conditioner I grabbed a bottle of whatever I could find (In this case it was some hair mayonnaise, some Carol's Daughter SOMM and a bit of EVOO dad had stashed in the pantry) nuked dit for a bit and slathered it on my ends. I wrapped my hair in a warm towel and hoped for the best.
I then tried my usual detangle, but that concoction provided no slip whatsoever. I did what I could with her awesome Jilbere-type shower comb and rinsed. By this time, sis was home and saw me helplessly standing in the mirror. She then showed me to her real stash...an entire cabinet of every hair product Carol's Daughter ever put out! Big sis sat me down and put a mixture of Hair Balm, Hair Honey and Hair Milk on me and then went over the situation with one of her 8 Denman-like brushes and coaxed the back of my hair into one of those Goody ouchless bands. (She did cuss and fuss the entire time about my natural hair
) The result...smooth as silkand moisturized for days! I was very suprised because I have always been skeptical about CD products for some reason. I airdried the front and found her old school Gold'n Hot flatiron in the back of the closet and lightly went over my roots...no snagging at all! Once again I was pleasantly suprised.
These are products that I never would have tried on my own, but I'm so glad I did!
So...have any of you ladies ever had to live "outside of your product box"?
