Does anyone know the ingredient in some leave in conditioners that cause them to create white flakes or films on the hair and scalp. I used a cheap substitute bioterra from naturrelle to roller set my hair (didn't want to waste my redken's anti snap) and the stupid thing has got my hair pouring out snow flakes. I'm about hitting the shower to wash out the crap. I guess I'll be roller setting with water whenever I roller set since I don't want to use setting lotions cos of their alcohol content

You have got to try Pantene relaxed/natural wrap & set lotion, it does not conatin alcohol and it dries into a soft set, unlike most setting lotions that dries crisp. Im sure you'll like it.

Now to answer your original question...........the flakes probably comes from "quats" -those ingredients are films, that is supose to protect your hair. But at the same time, if used regulary they certainly do leave a film on your hair which cause build-up that leads to flakes.

I use Aussie Hair Insurance to "set" my hair on rods when I do braidouts. I never get any flakes..even using it 3 days in a row.

I like the Biotera, but never used it to roller set. I agree that you should try the Pantene wrap/set lotion.
