LAWDHAMMERCY! How soon can I do another "corrective"

I am new to lye relaxers. I used Mizani fine/colortreated butterblends on 8/26. Didn't leave it onlong enough, rinsed it out (thinking I was "texlaxing") and NO straightening happened.

2 weeks later, I did a "corrective," left it on for Exactly the time specified (plus i started "tingling" due to no base:nono:)- same result!!

My hair looks like I am stretching a perm. I don't have the same amount of breakage. Very little, since I am doing stretching techniques. Applying protein like a relaxer to the demarcation line, using s-curl on the ends.

My question - how long must I wait to redo it?

I think next time I perm, I will need to let the texture of my hair be my cue. It may take a little longer to process than the 25 minutes specified on the bucket.

Has anyone experienced this? Any advice?

i personally think you should wait at least six weeks. Doing two relaxer treatments within two weeks of each other is really a big no no. You probably need to give some attention to your hair's cuticle and make sure it is in good shape.

Basically, I think you should use conditioners like French Perm Stabilizer Plus or Roux Porosity Control to seal the cuticle and do DCs and light protein treatments to make sure your hair is not on the verge of something bad.

Relaxer treatments are very, very harsh on the hair and you have to make sure that it is in good condition before and after or you will have problems.

Also maybe Butter Blends isn't the relaxer for you? Maybe you should try another brand or just have a professional do your relaxer treatments until you get more comfortable with the process

I don't have any advice on how soon you should do a corrective but I do believe you should wait at least 4 - 6 weeks. I can tell you that the MBB Mild is VERY VERY VERY mild. I have fine hair, even though it's coarse, and I had to switch to the MBB Regular. The regular gets my hair straight like I like it, but not overprocessed. The mild was texlaxed and that doesn't work for me. Your hair seems resistant and if that's the case, the mild isn't going to cut it. Trust me....I've used the mild 2x in the past and I just had my 2nd touch-up with the regular. I had to do a corrective after the initial switch to the regular because there were too many textures going on in my head. Just my 2 cents but good luck.

I agree with the everyone's post and just want to add do a protein condition with heat to build up strength... this is really important

I would also recommend waiting 4-6weeks before relaxing again and I would use a differnt brand of relaxer. You are blessed your hair didn't fall out from processing it twice in two weeks time. I would most likely keep my hair strong with protein and moisture. I would also use protective styles little manipulation for the next 4weeks until I got another relaxer. Good luck and keep us posted.

ive.... um... done correctives the week of my initial relaxer. and i've also... uh... got fine strands. so this was not a smart move... but hey, it's my hair! :)

i missed parts (like i always do) last touch up. it was a monday. on thursday night, i covered every inch of hair and scalp that already got processed, and just applied relaxer to the parts that i missed. my hair turned out fine.

but i've had about a year of lye self-relaxing experience, so i didn't have any trouble. i in no way, shape, or form, recommend that anyone do what i did... but if you're 100000% careful, and know what you're doing, and you make sure to base the heck outta your hair... then i don't see why you couldn't go right ahead and correct.

the key is to KEEP RELAXER OFF OF THE PARTS THAT ALREADY TOOK!!!! that's where a lot of people have issues when they do correctives; when they get relaxer on already-relaxed parts, and all of a sudden, get mass amounts of breakage.

whatever you do... be careful!!! but i absolutely agree with what posters said above, and wait at least a month. bad poookie :spank:

but don't listen to me, or do what i did.

aand... as far as relaxers go... i'd suggest Hawaiian Silky. it's never burned me, always processes 100%, and has botanical ingredients... like nettle. mizani burns the living daylights out of me; same with silk elements... and i used to consider myself tough-scalped

just to add with what's been said - treat a corrective as though you are picking up from where you left off. if you normally need 18 mins, but left it on for 10...then only leave the corrective on for 8.

go to the self-relaxer support thread (in the 'favorite threads' sticky), there's info there regarding correctives. good luck.

This is excruciating! I'm glad I have learned to stretch, but...

One last question: When I FINALLY get to do a touchup, should I

A - use Mizani fine butter blends and leave it on until the texture relaxes (which may be longer than 25 mins) OR
b - upgrade to mizani regular and rinse it off faster.

I am really leaning toward A. I left the relaxer on for the full amt of time recommended and I am texlaxed. Instead of tight penspring curls, I have wacky s's, just as tight at the root.

PS - here's my protest. Doesn't lack of texture change= lack of damage? I reeeeally wanna do a corrective NOW. I just had to get that out. Screaming over here!

Me and you are >< here!. I feel your pain I am 3 weeks post, and what I thought took, I am realizing did not. I have this one section in the back of my hair that just refuses to straighten. I'm just a stewing over here about what to do. I can wait it out, but my biggest concern is should I switch to a different relaxer? I used affirm regular, and not sure I should switch to another lye perm. *** sigh***

If I were you, I might switch to Mizani regular and keep in mind what Lady Esquire said about not processing for the entire time on the parts that need correcting.

oooh! the same week? Bad pookie - your color is beautifull, by the way

Ain't nah spot where I can tell it did take - not a SPOT!

Waiting a month will put me at about October 9... basically a 12 week stretch as my first stretch. Aight, that's a bet.

ETA - I did a cowash today and wrapped my wet hair in a satin scarf. After it dried, I realized that I actually AM texlaxed. My roots laid right down! Amazing. The jury may still be out on the Mizani BB fine color-treated. NO perm has ever been so gentle on my hair

K. Update. Er, I am texlaxed. I just failed to understand what that meant on my texture. My roots are puffy when airdried, but when flattened with a silk scarf, they are perfectly flat. The nape is perfectly curly now. I could leave the mizani bb fc on longer to get a slightly higher degree of straightening.

But the tensile strength left in my hair has to be a good thing, right?

You are fortunate that your hair didn't fall out because the mizani butter blend for fine hair is very very very mild and is used like a texlaxer itself because of how mild it is. I would have used a regular strength mizani bb relaxer instead to get straighter results. Youare doing the right thing by using protein on the demarcation line and make sure to deep condition as well.

I waited 3 weeks before to do a corrective relaxer and my hair turned out fine. I would recommend however that you wait at least 4-6 weeks though. Just protect your ends with some oil or protein based moisturizer like profectiv break free when you relax again. This helps to not only keep the ends strong but protects them from becoming over-processed. HTH.

I can definitely wait 6+ weeks now, since I understand what texlaxing is on my texture, and how to work with it. (DOH)

I wrapped with scarf last night and flatironed today and it looks GREAT! I'm very happy with it.

Does anyone still do the relaxer technique where they separate hair with 20 plastic clips? That sounds interesting for the end of October when I retouch.

wowsers. I did a touchup on October 16 (2 weeks ago) and left the perm on for up to 35 minutes at the crown. The front was about 20 minutes. I guess 35 is the magic number, because the crown is about the only place where I DON't need a corrective. This would be cool if I were into wash n gos, but they are not for me. REalizing that i need the bone straight hair.

At this point, I"m ready for the $5 kit. I have no idea how long my hair is right now.
