Lather, Rinse, and REPEAT?

I notice at the dominican salons that not only do they repeat, but they repeat repeatedly. Sometimes, they will lather women up 3 or 4 times before conditining.

Do you lather, rinse and REPEAT? How often do you wash your hair (daily, weekly, bi-weekly)? If you repeat, do you use the same shampoo or different ones (like using clarifying shampoo and then moisturizing shampoo)?

Of course, I am not talking about when you do a chemical service (like a relaxer) where it is necessary to repeat.

I do. I wash my hair twice a week. I condition-wash-condition (CWC) on Mondays and use two different conditioners in the shower (V05 and Garnier) but that's it. Then I deep condition with the Garnier Sleek and Shine Fortifying Deep Conditioner (3 Minute Masque). On Thursdays, I shampoo and then deep condition. I always use the same shampoo (unless I'm using the Motions Neutralizing to clarify and then the Lavish Conditioning shampoos).

I do also. I wash every two weeks. I first clarify then rinse, then use my regular (moisturizing) shampoo than rinse.

I lather once and don't repeat. I wash my hair a 2-3 times a week but I am trying to switch to just once a week and using a routine where I use a clarifying shampoo first and then a moisturizing shampoo.

I shampoo every two weeks, but I deep condition once a week; Every other week, I skip the shampooing and add the deep conditioner and just rinse.

But when I do shampoo I lather once and that's it. I never lather twice unless I clarify and that is only once per month.

I shampoo my hair weekly. Typically, I lather with a combo of a clarifying & moisturizing poo, then I rinse.

Lathering and rinsing more than 2x just makes my hair tangled and stripped.

I do a CWC routine twice a week and only lather once during the shampoo part. The only time I do a repeat lather is when I clarify and I follow my clarifying shampoo with a moisturizing one.

No. I wash with shampoo (usually Nexxus Therappe or Alterna Hemp Hydrate) 2 to 3 times a week.

In the shower, I pour a little shampoo into my hand and add a little water, then I lather once, working down the length of my hair gently. I massage my scalp to get it really clean and then I rinse. I never lather twice, not even when clarifying.

I lather once, then rinse, even if I clarify. I wash with shampoo and deep condition 2x each week.

I just realized that my hair feels worse when I repeat so I'm not going to be doin that anymore. I wash once a week.

I CWC twice a week and don't repeat unless I feel the need...repeating strips my hair of too much moisture

I wash my hair every 3 days and I only lather once, unless I have to clairfy then I follow with a moisturizing shampoo.

I wash weekly. I use either a clarifying (monthly)or a tea tree oil shampoo (weekly) for one or two lathers, then follow-up with one or two lathers with CON green bottle. I follow up with Redken Heavy Cream All soft as a DC. When washing, I concentrate on my scalp, not really my hair. Since I use MTG, I want to make sure my scalp is really clean.

This is totally off topic, but the title reminds me of a Margaret Cho joke where she says, in her mother's accent "Don't repeat! Repeat is for White people!"

With that said, I repeat. I only wash 1x a week, and use oil heavily, so I get better results that way. I don't leave the shampoo on for very long though, maybe 30 seconds for the first lather, and 1 min for the second so I can really get at my scalp. I use the same shampoo for both, unless I clarify.

Glamour magazine even said that the lather, rinse and REPEAT was a no no

they said its drying and just a way the shampoo companies get you to use up the bottle faster

You know if Glamour is telling white girls not to shampoo their hair twice, us black women definitely don't need to wash twice and lose the moisture and essential oils our hair desperately needs

Wash with clarifying shampoo
Rinse
Wash with Moisturizing Shampoo
Rinse

I wash hair once a week. The closer I get to the time for touch up, I co-wash almost every day and wear a bun. New growth too hard to handle...

I do this, clarify poo then moisturizing poo (Humectress) for one of my weekly shampoos; the other I just moisturizing poo and deep condition. I thought clarifying once per week would strip my hair but it actually helps it respond better to the conditioner and/or protein treatment.

I CO wash 2x a week, and deep cond with one of those. The only
time I use shampoo is when I clarify before using Aphrogee. That
is about once every 8 - 12 weeks, and I lather and rinse once.

Thanks for all the replies.

I guess most women don't repeat afterall. I think I do it out of habit more than anything else. :perplexed

I don't repeat. I find that my hair is much drier when I repeat, and over time, I realized that repeating isn't necessary to get my hair clean. The key is to massage the first poo the right way.

I wash my hair weekly (occasionally bi-weekly). When I clarify, I use the clarifying poo, then follow with a moisturizing poo. Other than that, I don't double lather.

One of the first things I was told regarding products was that the "repeat" was added to products to get consumers to use more and have to purchase more...thus increasing sales.

I lather up with Pantene R&N (I love this product and the conditioner!) at least 3 times. I guess it's a habit I received from getting my hair done at the beauty shop. I used to have terrible dandruff and my scalp wouldn't feel clean unless I did this. Even though the dandruff has subsided, I still continue this practice. I don't think my hair has suffered because of this since I always use moisturizing shampoo.

I CW on wednesday and wash my hair on saturday. I only shampoo my hair once and rinse. no repeats. When i use to shampoo my hair 3x's in one setting, i use to get bad dandruff and my hair was always dry. With the method that i use now, i don't have that problem anymore.

I wash every day unless my hair is flat ironed.
When I wash every day, I only lather once, since I already lathered the day before.
When I flat iron and don't wash my hair for a few days, then I lather 2-3 times, since there is definitely a build up on my scalp (I have itchy flaking if I don't wash frequently) and until my fingernails come away clean (no dead skin under them), I keep a-lathering!
I use the same shampoo.

This is what I do as well. I wash every two weeks too. If I don't clarify sometime I do lather and repeat only because I like a lot of suds and sometime I can't get that on the first shampoo, especially with CON.
