Late Teens Early 20's Come on In!

Hi ladies!

Age: 22 (but I feel older now that I have a full-time "grownup" job!)

Regimen: It's always changing! I guess its partly because I'm a bit of a product junkie... :yep: Right now I'm rocking the box braids look so I'm trying not to go too crazy so my hair looks neat for as long as possible. Once a week I wash my hair with Aussie Moist shampoo and deep condition with Aussie 3 Minute Miracle. I just bought Queen Helene Cholesterol because it was $2 and I actually really like how it made my roots feel softer. I usually air dry but these braids soak up water like mad so last weekend I used my hair dryer to help the process along... hehe. I try to spray my hair with a conditioner-water mix everyday to keep it moisturized but its ending up more like every 3 days. Oops.

I'm planning on taking my braids out this upcoming weekend (I survived 4 weeks in a protective style!) and enjoy my transitioning hair for a week or so before braiding it back up again.

Length? Not entirely sure. Last time I checked my longest ends were chilling out between my jawline and the tops of my shoulders. When my hair was relaxed I had it in a short pixie cut with a fade in the back so I have a lot of layers to grow out. I'm not complaining though - this new growth feels phenomenal.

Good luck on your HHJs, ladies!

lol your not quite there i thing lol we could use the wisdom :) especially with money :yep:

Lol! I know you weren't trying to be offensive, and I'm not...but this made me feel like Grandmother Willow from Pocahontas:lol:

As far as finding decent products at low prices...I would say only splurge on either the things you absolutely NEED or only when you can:yep:

if your hair can't live without the $15 leave in...only splurge on that but at the same time, find a cheaper alternative. I know how it is to come on here and so many members can buy the newest yet expensive products. I love he fact that Sallys sells knockoffs of hair products.

If you are going Curly Girl...you DO NOT have to buy things like Kinky Curly, Curl Junkie, DevaCurl and all the other popular curly girl brands. You can buy things like Suave Naturals, V05, EcoStyler Gel, Garnier Fructis haw some cone-free conditioners...you don't have to spend $20 on a product. Being natural does not have to drain your wallet. Yes the expensive brands smell awesome and work great but the cheaper alternatives work just as well.

Dominican products are also nice options if your not all spazzed out by mineral oil and things like that. I used to be. Honestly...if you can figure out how to incorporate "bad" products in your regimen, you may find that mineral oil is not the Devil. Like.. I can't use a leave in or moisturizer that contains mineral oil but my hair does just fine if it's in a deep conditioner.

Being on an HHJ is all trial and error. :)

lol, look at all us babies!

Age: 21 (as of a few weeks ago )
Regimen:
Whoo, let's see.
Once a week:
1. Prepoo with Motions Cpr or Vatika Oil.
2. Shampoo with Chagrin Valley bar.
3. Do tea rinse w/acv in it.
4. DC overnight, preferred conditioner is Joico Moisture Recovery. I also add castor, vatika, and safflower oil to it from time to time.
5. ACV Rinse.
6. Apply leave in, Chi Silk Infusion, and castor oil.
7. Rollerset and air dry.
8. Flat iron roots.

During the week, I moisturize and baggy my ends every couple of days. In the morning, I seal with castor-safflower oil blend, sunflower butter, or avocado butter, and then put my hair into a bun. I bun every day, except for a couple of days out of the month.

I go about 16 - 22 weeks between relaxers. Definitely will never try to exceed 24.
Clarify every 4 weeks or so, search and destroy as needed, and I dust my ends every 6 weeks.

And every other week, I replace my protein treatment with a paste of cassia, amla, hibiscus, fenugreek, and marshmallow root powder.

Current Length: Full APL, almost BSL.

Goal Length: By the end of 2012, I'm aiming for MBL and my ultimate goal is HL.

I think I'm gonna try weaves for a PS until I finally have enough hair to bun with. I love wigs, but they aren't reliable enough. I'm sick of braids by themselves. I need something that is get up and go, but can be turned to glam when needed. Also, something that can endure exercise. A weave sounds like the perfect choice.

:] My peers! Yaaay.

I am 19 years young
My regimen varies based on what my hair is doing, but i'll summarize:
  • Wash every weekend with L'oreal sulfate free shampoo, condition with some sort of Dove product
  • Spray twice daily with spritz of aloe vera gel, glycerin, spring water, and jojoba, lavendar and rosemary oils when in braids or detangle with if my hair is out of braids, spray after conditioning, etc.
  • Every now and again...When I remember...Pre-poo with sesame and coconut oils.
  • Moisturize hair with Elasta QP Mango butter when hair is out, seal with jojoba or castor oil.
Goal Length: Mid-back length, y'all!

Time for some confessions. I drop my daddy's money like i'm at the player's club on hair products every now and again. Just bought Jane Carter leave-in even though I have a spritz (No regrets it works better and would be perfect for my tight curls when I take out my braids) and Miss Jessie's Creme de la Creme (it's going RIGHT back). I'm ashamed, some days. Other days, I pretend I am balling.

Woohoo! :bouncy:

Age: 21 (end of this past dec )
Regimen:
-Wash every week with some shampoo. I'll prepoo with coconut oil if I'm not lazy. It really makes a difference!!
-DC at least once a week. 2x when I have time like during school breaks. Probably use whatevers around and slap some oil in it. I detangle immediately after I put it on. I'll dc overnight because, yet again, I'm lazy
-Rinse out the dc and acv rinse because my hair is as porous as spongebob
-Moisturize with a leave in when it's damp and seal with an oil/butter
-Put in 2 braids at night, bun in the morning. Re-moisturize and seal throughout the week if I feel like it.

That's it. Sounds like much but it really isn't. I'm lazy...and I type too much detail . I reached mbl recently but it doesn't really look like mbl unless I straighten it so I'd like my curly length to be bsl-mbl maybe.

Oh hannan ! How i've missed u! Lmao. Spongebob, tho? :lachen:

Hey PEOPLE! :drunk:

I am 20 years old. Currently living in Japan, so I have to order all my hair products online... I am a Natural head.

Regimen? (Not much)
I wear wigs. Wash and condition hair once a week and flat twist.

Short term goal: APL hair straight
Long term: Shoulder length curly

I do not post much... and before I joined I was a lurker for awhile...

Hey all :)

Age 18, college student, relaxed 4b/c

Well, I definitely don't fit the criteria to participate--but I just wanted to drop in and give you young ladies a pat on the back!!! I applaud you for focusing on this so young--by the time you are my age, you will truly have long hair, don't care!!!!!! :bouncy: :yep: :bouncy: :yep: :bouncy: :yep: :bouncy: :yep:

Hii,

I'm a lil' shocked at the ages of some of you ladies..
I'm currently an intern with expensive taste and no salary so I tend to bulk buy my staples.

Age: 22

Regimen:

- Wash once a week with KeraCare Sulphate Free Hydrating Detangling shampoo and deep condition with Joico Moisture Recovery Balm. (I would love to up this to 2x a week but just don't have the time)
- Oil prepoo when I'm a good girl.
- Clarify monthly and heavy protein treatment or cellophane every 6 weeks
- Airdry and bun the majority of the time, messed with wigs during University and my poor edges suffered the consequences.
- Moisturise with Qhemet Biologics Burdock Root Butter Cream and seal with Gleau Oil
- Relax between every 12-14 weeks, I've gone longer i.e 20 weeks but sans wigs/weave I find it a huge hassle.

Current Length: Past CBL (Last checked December)
Short Term Goal: APL
Long Term Goal: Full U-Shape MBL, not certain if I want any longer..

Its nice to see another henna head! Do you use straight henna or do you mix it with other herbs and powders

MissMyssie
I take it you can't keep a protective style in long without it totally bothering you lol. My friend is this way. she has to keep braids in for like 3 months and its driving her nuts! she misses playing in her hair. Remember the end result :)

SmilingElephant
Thanks for the tips! I'm really bad when it comes to splurging on products. Especially when I hear about all of the fabulous products that ladies in the forum use, and I forget my tried and true products *sigh* I'll learn

Chaosbutterfly
Your hair is so shiny its amazing! Enlighten me with your techniques of how you get it to shine lol

Rikinkkulus
I use to be like that, but yeah, I'm kinda cut off lol

LoveTheSkinImIn
So do I! It's nice to see I'm not the only one, so many girls at school are so doubtful about African American Hair, I just converted my friend over to a hair journey...(after like 3 years of convincing)

@ Janet'
Thanks :) We are working to defy stereo-types!

miss_cheveious
Lol Im surprised I'm still the youngest

Hey Ladies!

I am a LONG TIME lurker on LHCF... probably started creeping around my sophomore year of Highschool. I'm a junior in college now. I think i posted once but was scared to do it again but y'all made me come out of hiding lol.

Age: 20

Regimen: I get my hair done at the salon every week (I work a lot while I'm in school) and its a splurge for myself but I don't allow myself to eat out or spend money on other things. Plus the time it takes me to do my own hair is 4hrs+ & with exams I don't have time for all of that when I can be in and out in 2.5 hours at the salon.

I usually get a rollerset and then she blowdries all of my hair. I'm worried that all this heat once a week is going to damage my ends... but my newgrowth is too much and I wanted to keep stretching till march or april. She usually uses a low cool setting but now that my NG is out of control she's been increasing the temp.

Products: HairVeda vatika frosting & HairVeda whipped creme are my staples... I have a bunch of other stuff but I like these best. I hardly use them now that I switched to washing my hair every week. I need to start M&S more and tying my hair at night in my silk scarf.

Current Length: SL

Short Term Goal: Full APL

Long Term Goal: MBL

Hey Ladies I am no longer in my 20's but if anyone ask I am 25 plus tax, I pay a lot of taxes

I just wanted to say that I am having a very successful hair journey but spending very little money.
I don't feel the need to clunk down $300.00 on a hair dryer, or $50 on a bottle of magic hair cream.

It's great the results a lot of the sista's achieve using all the fancy pricey stuff but you can get really good results with a $3.00 tub of DC from Sally's and a bottle of Olive oil from the grocery store!

Blessings on Jouney's and remember you are never to young to use coupons!!!!!!!

Now let me get my Old Tail outta here before someone calls me out
"she know she ain't in her 20's she really got her nerve":lachen::lachen::lachen:

@ HighAspirations-I use my henna straight, I don't mix it with other powders. However, to get it to a yogurt consistency I do use a mixture of EVOO, EVCO & AO and I've found that I've never felt like my hair was dry after doing my henna treatment, my hair always feels strong and moisturized.

yay my age group lol
age: 21
reggie: curly girly method and protective styling in twists, tryong to focus on my diet though

Age:23 b 24 oct 11

Regimen: wash every week with Shea moisture shampoo, deep masque and leave in conditioner and red ken heat protector an I do a roller set with organix coconut milk mousse with flexi rods and when my hair drys to fast before I roll it I mist it with cantu Shea butter leave in with water in a spray bottle and then roll it up, throughout the west a moisturize with razac perfect for perms cream and seal with my virgin coconut oil and jojoba oil mix before I wrap at night and moisturize when I unwrap my hair because my pet peeve is dry hair, i like shiny and moisturized all the way!! ;)

HighAspirations
Omg yesss I am very interested!! The only thing missing from my routine is a face mask.:grin: I cleanse with Organique by Himalaya Turmeric and Neem face wash, but the neem and turmeric are the last ingredients in the list sooo who knows how much neem is really in the product lmao.
if you could send me the sites that'd be great. (:

Age: 20. Just turned 20 last January!
Regimen: Shampoo twice a month, DC or cowash weekly, moisturise and seal once a day.
My goal length this year is APL and grazing BSL.
My total goal is bra strap length, maybe even waist length.
My main hair issue is that my hair has never grown past APL, would like it to grow past that.

sunkissedskin
I go to http://www.ayurnaturalbeauty.com/ or you can find it on amazon, but I prefer the other website, amazon makes me nervous. If you do use amazon look up Hesh Neem Powder and ayurnatural just has her neem powder and you can find it in the herbs for skin or herbal hair powder. The shipping is pretty good. I brought like five or things from there the other day and shipping was only like $7. Let me know if you need anything else :).
